Terrain and Scenery - Moonscape Craters

$

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in to our humble corner of the blogosphere once again. My latest addition to the Terrain and Scenery I have is the Apoc OOP Moonscape Craters plastic set from GW.
These were first on sale around the launch of Apocalypse I think and judging from a quick serach on GW website, no longer available which is a shame. I bought some of the Quake Cannon Craters too, much more detailed and grim dark with bits of tanks and plenty of skulls, these by comparison are very generic and a lighter vacuum formed plastic mould. A lot more flimsy than they look, and thinner plastic than the Quake Cannon Craters but once on the table top, they are very durable and do the job just fine.
Not much to say other than these took about an hour from start to finish, (not including optional glue drying time overnight), so if you do have them, get them out and get them done! Don't take several years like me!
I went the additional optional step of PVA (Elmers) glue around the plain plastic rim, and dipped in my modelling sand and then once dry, sealed with some Purity Seal to lock the grains in place.
Paint wise, which took less than the hour for all of them, is simply spray primer, sprayed Mournfang Brown, drybrushed Ushabti Bone, the centre of the craters was washed with a Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade mix. Done.
I then added a few clumps of burnt grass flock to the rims as all my bases have, and helps tie in with the Gamemat I have, it has little bits of vetetation pictured.
There you go, the GW Mournfang Brown spray is your friend here! Bag open to done in 1hr (overnight if you use glue like me). Go on, paint your scenery!

Reaver Titan - WIP #8 - The Painting Starts

Hi readers,

Thanks again for popping over to our blog!

More progress with the Reaver to show, I've finally started to get some paint to the model, adding boltgun metal (or Leadbelcher for the new paints) to the legs and weapons, the base has been sprayed brown ready for dry brushing and detailing. The Rhino will probably get a 'Relictor' feel to it, to go with the dead marines already painted.
With regards the weapons, all have been sprayed, there is the addition of the Volcano cannon which I hadn't posted yet. There are details under the armour plate I want to do prior to sticking the plate to the gun. The Volcano cannon is huge in comparison to the other 2 guns! Again, I've built the arm to use the same screw/nut feature.
I'm still in 2 minds for the scheme, I do have a legion (maybe 2) in mind, I've seen both painted on other blogs or at WHW. Hopefully I'll have picked the legion for the next Reaver post.

He is the model currently, slow progress, but I'm happy with the direction its going in.
Thanks for Looking!

Necron Warriors - more from the To-Do Pile

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in, more progress battling the to-do pile, 5 more Necron Warriors now done, another 10 to do, leftover from a Battle Force boxset. I already did all the Canoptek Scarab bases, seen HERE. And the rest of the existing warriors can be seen HERE.
So I guess these are Necron Warrior Squad 7, but with the latest codex, minimum squad size was increased to 10, so actually these are the beginnings of Squad 4. The copper capacitor coils are Fulgurite Copper, my new favourite metallic colour. These are my basic Necrons so they lack any Blue or Gold accents, but the metals are actually more than sprayed! Its Platemetal AP Spray washed with Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade and highlighted Runefang Steel. Neat, functional and mass produced - just like Necron Warriors should be!
Whilst I was at it, I re-based the Thunderfire Techmarine to a more stable and suitable 32mm base, much better. I am also slowly re-basing the existing Marines to 32mm bases using the TTAdapters I have, a process seen in the tutorial HERE - really easy if you are thinking of it, I have another 130+ Marines to do.

Thanks for dropping by.

WIP- Leviathan Dreadnought(s)

Hi one and all!

Thanks for looking at our Blog!

Just a post on my WIP Leviathan Dreadnoughts, when 1 isn't enough, go for 3!

I really like the look and feel of these HH models, they look how I image dreadnoughts would look- massive, chunky and deadly! I opted to have one true shooty Dread, one for close combat and the other a mix of the two.

Up First, the Mix dreadnought, armed with the Cyclonic Melta Lance, and Siege Claw, I've switched the feet around so this one has two 'running feet'. The missile rack is to be added, plus transfers and line highlights and base. The model (and other 2) appears to be 'too' blue- I think this is that the base isn't done yet.

Secondly, the shooty dreadnought- armed with 2 Storm cannons. This model has the 2 'standing' feet, which I think helps with the pose. To complete, same as above with transfers, missile rack and base.
lastly, the Close Combat beast- armed with a siege claw and drill, the pose is meant to be in the middle of combat. To complete, same as the first two.
By working on all 3, I've managed to get a uniform blue across them, and am happy with the look of all 3 together- once finished I'll do a group shot on my 'HH' dreadnoughts as well as my battle group of 14 dreadnoughts!

Necron Warriors - 40 done, 5 left

Hi Readers, thanks for dropping by, 5 more from the Battleforce done, now the remainder of the 4th squad, that's 40 done now. I only have 5 left to do in the to-do pile, plenty of other Necrons left though.
These ones I took the time to re-pose the heads so they are not looking up in the air or too crouched over. I also posed them so they are actually shooting their Gauss Flayers. I copied the same scheme for the rest of the Warriors I've done so they blend in seamlessly, makes it easier when choosing my forces for upcoming battles, just pick however many soulless automatons I need... perhaps all 40 next battle! We are Legion!
Finally a shot of the whole lot so far, I'll keep going with my To-Do pile pledge before I buy nice new shiny WeeMen. Cheers for reading this far, Siph.

Leviathan Dreadnoughts - 3 Ultramarine Leviathans

Hi one and all,

To follow up on last weeks post, My 3 Leviathan Dreadnoughts. to complete these I need to add some transfers, which I intend to do as a massive bulk with my other dreadnoughts and vehicles.

Up first, my all rounder, with melta and claw- I'm really happy with the pose of this one- as though he is charging into combat- the left claw is mounted further round that it should be really, but the look needed that to get the desired look. Definitely benefits from the 2 running feet.
Up next, my combat dreadnought - again the pose looks good, aimed to be in the middle of a big combat; the rules for this in CC are pretty insane, (7th ed rules) and I am looking forward to seeing how he fairs in combat.
Lastly, Mr Shooty himself, the storm cannon armed Dreadnought. Designed to let the other 2 charge forwards whilst he blasts away at everything, again the benefit of having 3 of these is to have been able to change the feet around. This dread has 2 flat feet befitting of a shooting stance.
The 3 Dreadnoughts together on my battle board..
The the 3 dreadnoughts with my others- a 14 strong unit...
Thanks for looking!! Cheers, Lord Halfpenny.

Dark Vengeance Gaming Counters for 40K - Painted

Hello Readers, I hope I can still use these in 8th Edn!! These have been sitting around for ages, (read: since DV was released!) and I never thought about using them in game, but after a number of games where I forget rules, moves etc. I thought maybe some of the counters could actually be of use. There were a lot of tokens that do not add much or are repeated with similar tokens - Shaken/Stunned for instance.
Falling Back / Disorganised Charge - I think these can actually be of use, denoting what Units are falling back or are carrying out a disorganised charge? I'll probably use as Falling Back.
Weapon Destroyed - Often forgot unless I can physically remove the turret, so these will definitely be useful.
Vehicle Destroyed - Often I place destroyed vehicles upside down or on side, but rules wise they should just stay in position and some aerials are at risk of breaking if put upside down, so a Destroyed counter could be of use.
Immobilized - Simple and effective reminder for vehicles and Dreadnoughts. saves putting a dice next to it which can be confused with Hull Points.
Crew Shaken/Stunned/Jinked - I refrained from painting up another four with single shaking lines, so the counter will be enough to jog the memory of which it applies to. I see its usefulness as a reminder about Jinking Flyers and Bikes too.
And finally, the most useful and have always been using since I saw it, which made me think I could paint up some more eventually, the Turn Counter - I use this every game and useful for photos too, to remind me what photo comes from what Turn when writing up Batreps. I magnetized the arrow so it rotates. Simple and effective.
There you have it, I think they look great, much better and clearer than the bright gauss-green counters you get stock. And no blending, highlighting or washing, so a simple effective paint scheme brings these to life and usefulness.  Thanks for checking out the blog, cheers - Siph.

Master of the Forge on Jet Bike Conversion

Hi One and All!

Thank you again for checking out our blog,

Up on show next is my, what counted as a Master of the Forge, now Techmarine on a Jet Bike (Counts as Bike), with under slung Conversion Beamer. This was a project I started about 5 years ago, with the idea before that! Siph did his version of a MotF Techmarine on bike after I had the idea for mine, so a while back indeed!
The Jetbike is the Sammael model, with the addition of a Techmarine body, and legs in place of Sammael. The under slung Plasma Cannon was then cut away, and replaced with a Forgeworld Contemptor Conversion Beamer - the arm perfectly sits within the void left by the plasma cannon. a portion of the Plasma Cannon is used to look like a vent from the Beamer.
The Techmarine tome on the front of the bike I decided to add script that looked like how a Conversion Beamer might work, to be honest is designed to look like an X-ray system which is what my degree in University is, Radiography!

The final picture is the MotF flying on the battle board. I do hope the rules in 8th include him so I can use him as I planned!
Thanks for looking, Cheers, Lord Halfpenny.

Kairos Fateweaver - The Oracle of Tzeentch Chaos Daemon

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in. Here is the latest addition to the malign forces of Chaos that seem to have popped up into my display cases without me even realising their growing numbers ;)
This was the smaller finecast Kairos Fateweaver that until recently was the only sculpt, now the new fantastic huge Lord of Change has options to make a Fateweaver too. This was a Christmas gift so it was an excellent addition to the army, I prefer the smaller scult for Fateweaver, reserving the larger model for the Greater Daemon of Tzeentch.
But, before you congratulate me for an original paint scheme, I will proudly say that this was a Commission I asked Nick Thrower at The Burning Eye blog to paint him for me, great service and great communication and great rates too. Anyone in the UK wanting a commission painter, bear Nick in mind and check out his blog for details. Lovely chap indeed, I've met him once at Blog Wars and we will no doubt be meeting up again sometime in the future, perhaps at WHW or Warhammerfest.
I love the unusual scheme for this, pale flesh, turquoise and blues of Tzeentch and rich oranges of the feathers, this will go nicely with the colourful and unusual 'Pink' Horrors by Rob at 30Kplus40K blog.
And whats more, I tasked Nick to paint some more Daemons after seeing progress of some he was working on for another Commission client, I sent him 2 boxes of Screamers, more of them in the next post. Cheers for dropping by and special thanks to Nick Thrower, Cheers, Siph.

Screamers of Tzeentch Commission by Nick at The Burning Eye

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in, following on from the last post with Fateweaver, Nick from The Burning Eye blog also painted up six Screamers of Tzeentch for me. A great bloke, good service, good rates and great communication throughout. If you are in the UK and require a commission painter, by all means consider Nick, details on his blog.
I saw him doing another commission involving some Screamers for another client, so asked to add these to Fateweaver. I loved the turquoise and orange scheme, ties in with Fateweaver and looks great.
Really good colours on the spines and on the eyes, and I loved the little armoured scales on the skin.
The bases were done to match my current forces and tie in nicely.
Here are all six, watch out Vehicles, maybe in 8th, these will also be deadly in CC if they eat HPs, they'll eat Wounds...
And finally, a look at where the Daemon force is now, a very colourful addition to my armies, some HQ choices, lots of troops and now Screamers - what started out as Daemons purely to supply models for my Relictor Librarians to summon using Daemonology Malefic psychic powers. Thanks for dropping in, cheers, Siph.

Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage- Complete

Hi One and All,

Thanks for looking at our blog, and our posts.

My next post is the completed Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage,

I'm really happy with the overall look of the Great Daemon, the axe had a go covering of blood (paint, not my own) which adds to the look. For the base I plan to add the remains of one of its kills, just to add a story to the model.

Skarbrand The Exiled One

Hello Readers!

Again,thanks for looking!

Up next, Skarbrand. Skarbrand the Exiled One is a Bloodthirster, a Greater Daemon of the Blood God Khorne. Skarbrand betrayed the Blood God due to the machinations of Tzeentch, the Lord of Change, and was exiled from the service of Khorne - I did the 2 daemons at the same time, to make sure the skin tones remain the same for the two, it also meant I could try techniques on one, then on the other if I liked it.
The face I'm happy with the finish, I went for a complete right side with no red skin, just bone- with the bear bone of the mandible visible, and horns black from the damage.
I'm really happy with the axes, I washed them differently to add a different dimension to them, one has a red hue to it, the other a purple- I felt this could be the axe that Skarbrand used again Khorne after the words from Slaanesh- that the axe had been corrupted in some way. Again each had a good coat of blood.
The look is what I was hoping for, and am happy with the results. For the base I plan to use a Black Templar model, with a black sword stabbed into Skarbrand - as told in the story from GoS3 book.

Magnetizing a Necron Triarch Stalker - WIP

$

Howdy Folks, been busy constructing and painting the next item off my to-do pile. The Triarch Stalker is a Quantum Shielded AV11(13 until glanced or penned walker which can be armed with a heat ray, or Heavy Gauss Cannon TL. The third weapon is a Particle cannon blast weapon, but I don't intend using that one.
The Heavy Gauss Cannons are a pricey addition so not always going to be my preferred choice, two short range Lascannon type shots would be good, but the main buff of the Triarch Stalker is the +1 BS it's targeting relay gives to Necron squads within 6in.
The magnets were inserted into the end of the cannon assembly and to mount the Gauss Cannons, two either side of the body. I also added a magnet at the end of the big crystal array.
This crystal on the end was for stowing the Heat Ray cannon end or the lens end so they do not get lost or forgotten when travelling.
Great job I think, the heat ray at the back looks a little like an exhaust manifold, so looks passable to me. Onward with the painting... Thanks for dropping by.

Bloodthirster of Khonre

Hi One and all,

To follow up on my bloodthirster posts, here are the other bloodthirsters I own,

First up my Bloodthirster - Greater Daemon of Khorne, this was a purchase from ebay so I can't take credit for the paint job.

Here are the 3 bloodthisters together

And then additions with my older metal bloodthirsters,

Its looking at the scales that I don't think I'll be using the metal models for future battles, they are in size with a daemon prince, I'm not sure what other people are thinking with the new/old models? please add your comments thoughts and feedback about this.
They might end up similar to my other old daemon lords with a new 'statue' paint scheme which I'm intending to do.
Thanks for looking!

Necron Triarch Stalker - w/ Interchangeable Weapons

Howdy Folks, So, I've continued with progress of the To-Do pile, a Necron Triarch Stalker now done. It feels good to get another one off the To-Do pile, and moar line highlighting, gotta love it. After the Ghost Ark, this was a breeze.
As my previous post about magnetizing this showed how I can interchange the under slung weapons between the Heat Ray (Melta/Flamer) and a Heavy Gauss Cannon (24in Lascannon). The main reason I painted up this beauty was to take advantage of the bonus to the surrounding blob squads of Necron Warriors, a plus 1 to BS is really handy, especially if the two 15 Warrior squads nearby are within rapid fire - any vehicle or squad will fear 60 BS5 Gauss shots coming its way!
I love the look of this vehicle, great 'stalker' tank design, with the Praetorian driver up top and the weapon below.
I added glyphs on the largest legs and posed one raised leg like it's stalking forward.
Here is a close up of the under slung weapons, firstly the Heat Ray melta type gun, short range and focused (Melta) or dispersed (Flamer) type weapon. You can just see the magnets on the flank of the weapon body to mount the Heavy Gauss Cannons. It comes with a third option of a Particle Shredder (Blast) weapon, but I foresee only using the basic Heat Ray or splashing out on the TL Heavy Gauss Cannons.
Here are the TL Heavy Gauss Cannons (Lascannon) type weapons, the Heat Ray nozzle removed and a gauss 'lens' put in its place.
Here is a frontal shot of the Triarch Stalker with the TL Heavy Gauss Cannons, ideal for Pen or Glancing heavy armour.
And from the side.
And lastly, a shot of the stowed Heat Ray nozzle, so I don't lose it.
And a shot from the tabletop, where I will be using it, amongst large squads of Warriors, boosting their effectiveness.  Thanks for dropping in. Cheers, Siph.

Ultramarine Daemon Prince

Hi One and All,

Thanks for reading!

Here is a little project I've finished, an Ultramarine Daemon Prince. This was a model I purchased off a well known auction site, as I liked the flying conversion of the plastic daemon prince. I'd already added a Relictor DP to my princes, so I thought it was only fair to add an Ultramarine on to the party. I believe this guy was finished before Siph's..

I've opted for a veteran look, with white helmet/face and shoulder trims, this is added to the pale skin complexion. I'd always wanted to try white skin, and really happy with the look. The wings flesh is a fleshy blue, with a really watered down Ultramarine blue. I am toying with adding a banner similar to the Relictors one, however I'm not sure the addition would benefit the pose.

How the flight is achieved... (Ouch...)

Here are all the princes on the battle board..
