Iron Warriors - Vindicator

Hi guys – sorry for the sporadic posts of late…geek’age is still happening up North…just at a slower rate of late.
Anyhow, here is a little toy I’ve had finished for a month or two but not had chance to take pics of yet – my first Iron Warrior Vindicator.

I picked the tank up of eBay randomly for an absolute steal of £10.50 – and it came with FW IW doors and some light chain-work conversions which I quite liked so kept.  I simply knocked together a quick combi-bolter to reduce the likelihood of those annoying weapon destroyed results.

It was painted up in my typical IW style and then treated to a lifetime of battering and weathering.

Only had one game with it so far – where it helped destroy Lord H’s Contemptor and made his Centurions very nervous indeed (S10 AP1 will insta gib the entire unit with no saves allowed…) – so pretty happy with the results so far!

Iron Warriors - (kitbashed) Chaos Spawn

So here are a couple of conversions I built a few months ago but never got round to painting – well, now they’re done!
You might remember that I kitbashed an IW-themed DaemonPrince a while ago – not to use in any of my lists, but in case I got lucky on the Chaos Boon table. I then realised that I hadn’t got any Chaos Spawn if I managed to roll at the other end of the table…
Rather than forking out £20-something for a couple of GW Spawns which would probably not see the light of day (and not look very IW-like), instead I decided to kit-bash my own out of spares.
As you know, I’m not going for “chaosy” IWs and also wanted to reflect that with any Daemons associated with the army. I immediately thought of the Technovirus (which according to some fluff originated from Nurgle) and The Thing (got to love the effects of the mutations).

The first Spawn is an old CSM from my bits box that I hacksawed in half. I then patched up the sawn edges with greenstuff and added some fleshy texture and connected the two halves with guitar wire (bottom E I believe…) for mechanical guts/tendrils.
I wanted both Spawn to appear as if they had recently ‘changed’ so painted all the armour as I would any other IW trooper. Tamiya X-27 (with a touch of brown) was used for the blood (we might see more of that later in an idea I have for another unit….).
The second spawn was relatively simple to bash together – although it took quite a bit of greenstuff to get the limbs to meet in that position… The head is a 3rd party bit from Puppetswar.eu.
I didn’t think these guys would ever get used, but the first time I took them out a lowly CSM Champion ascended/descended to spawnhood after hacking apart one of LordH’s Termi Sergeants in a challenge…and then went on to finish the Termi squad and trash a Razorback…so maybe the dark fates are watching minis after all…?

Relictors Devastator Centurion Sergeant

Hello avid readers, thanks for stopping by. Here is my latest offering and addition to the ever growing Relictors Battle Company! I know I should just get on with the remaining Command Squad and be done, but new rules, new models and new Codex means more new shiny bits of kit for the armoury!
This Sergeant is armed with the Grav Amp seen here, and a rather pleasing lens effect I thought.
...And a very much sought after Grav Cannon. I tried to do something different with the muzzle - bronze effect so it stands out but no charcoal burnt effect as it is a gravity enhancing weapon, not a chemical 'burn' type, this will also mean that the various Grav type weapons amongst the line troops - Grav Gun and Combi-Grav Bolters and Pistols will be easily distinguishable from the other boltgun, pistol or special weapons I already had. The green energy drum-thingy will also help a lot too. My plasma guns have a blue energy.
I chose to simply decorate the shoulder pad with the Devastator marking as well as front and back Relictor skulls, and left the left-pauldron blank with the exception of the Centurion badge - done in Boltgun Metal as the Terminator Crux on my Termies is also metallic.
And finally, the chest mounted Missile Launcher, with yellow missiles to tie in with my Whirlwind and Deathwind Missile Pod missiles, to be common across the army. The skull-like head is from Anvil Industries and is painted similar to one of my Assault Marine Squads with similar grimacing heads. And the pose of this centurion is the most static, I managed to get some movement out of the remaining squad members, but the Sergeant can stand still and direct their fire with the pointing gesture nicely.
Here is a size comparison of normal Power Armour, Terminator Armour, Centurion Exo-Armour and a Dreadnought. Great stuff, can't think why GW didn't have one of these shots in the WD? Nevermind, thanks for reading, I am progressing with the rest of the Squad, and a Stalker AA Tank...

Alternative Heavy Weapons Battery? New UK Plastics Company - PDC Gaming

I recently backed a successful Kickstarter campaign and the plastics company are based just up the road from me, so when I saw that they were doing 'combi-weapon' style plastic weapons, I was sold and backed - who wants to pay ebay prices for a combi-weapon?!
They were also doing a tracked weapon as pictured above, too small for a Thunderfire but ideal for maybe Imperial Guard heavy weapon teams or as an alternative to Forgeworld Rapier Batteries. I have three FW Heavy Bolter Rapiers and love them, I love the snub nose lethality of them and wouldn't change them, however if I want some Laser Batteries, then maybe these will make a great cheap alternative!
Not as detailed as FW resin, but good enough for the table top. This is the weapon carriage sprue, no flash, good moulds and plastic slightly more brittle than GW plastics. Slightly tougher to file but good stuff.
This is a 28mm miniature portable Heavy Weapon Sprue, makes a variety of weapons like FW Legion Heavy Weapon Squads, again not as detailed but good for table top.
The combi-style weapons, plenty of them too!
And finally, the company themselves, good luck to them. Plastic toys indeed for my plastic weemen. Nice additions.

Relictors Centurion Devastator Squad Finished

Finally I have finished the other squad members of the Relictors Centurion Devastator Squad. These models have grown on me quite a bit and were fun, although took ages, to paint. They are packed with details and an part constructed methodology I think is best. I constructed the body, legs and arms as one piece, guns, pipes, head, both sets of shoulder guards, groin armour and pistons separately.

I've also added an Aquila above the Sergeant's head to give him some more height when compared to the other two. That was not there in the last post about him. I think they look good together, somewhat better than I was expecting - they don't scream 'teletubbie' Marines to me anymore!
Here is the two remaining troopers in all their freshly painted glory. I think I did a good job on the Grav-Amp lens, again these are packed with detail, I was even tempted to use some of the spare honour markings in the box to cover the one remaining knee armour on the right-hand marine! But, instead, I left at least one armour plate bare.
Thanks for stopping by. Right, where is that Stalker tank... should only take as long as one of those did!?

Relictors 4th Company Tactical Squad - New Plastics

Well, I've had a lot of Tactical Marines done and didn't need anymore, however the new GW Tactical Squad is the only place to get the greatly sought after Grav Weapons, so, with a stroke of genius, here is the first member of a 4th Company Squad... I've already got all 6x 5th Company Tactical Squads painted up.  He can be identified as 4th Company by the green trim of the Shoulder Pauldrons - 5th Company to date all have Black trims.
The real reason to post is to have a quick look at the new plastics - no doubt at all that the newer GW plastics are a lot more crisp and sharp and great when compared to the old - look at the above legs - they are old tactical marines, the top half ofthe figure is newer... crisper and sharper. Forget the tardiness of the leg paintjob, the newer plastics are superior. There is a lot of disappointment online that they were released the same, except additional Grav Weapons etc. John at 40K Hobby Blog mentioned it too 'here', but I agree with him. It's a good thing.
And for the Grav Weapons and this firing pose 'up on aim' alone it is a good thing to go buy the new GW Tactical Squad! I love the new Grav Weapon, the Combi Grav abd the fact that the hands are separate to the wrists. My painting is also improved ;) And I added the '4' to the knee pad!  Well, GW gets some stick - but the new release of a Tactical Squad to replace the old Tactical sprue is worth it in my view, the older moulds were getting worn and losing the details, plus the new injection magic they must have makes the newer models crisp. I am a fanboi, but the results show it was worth a new release.

A few bits of Terrain

Hi guys – I just thought I would throw up some pics of a mini terrain project I have been working on.
A few months back I entered a Kill Team tournament at my local club and they awarded additional tournament points for bringing along some terrain to play with (the club has their own terrain, but not really enough for the amount required for a Kill Team tournament). Points were also awarded for bringing cake/goodies…both very good ideas IMO…
I’ve had an idea for an IW themed game board for a while now; trenches and temporary bunkers running across half of the board and the edges of a fortification that is being battered. I could make it but I have two problems right now; a) I have no room in my house to store it without it being damaged and b) I don’t actually play at my house… I thought I would use this opportunity to test out making some trenches and battlefield debris.
It was all made very basically; some wooden boards for bases and polystyrene shaped with a jr. hacksaw blade (I don’t have a polystyrene cutter and its better than using Stanley/scalpel blades). It was then sealed with PVA, rocks/walls coated in all-purpose-filler and sand added. I used balsa to make the planks in the trenches, old sprue for spikes and random spares I had lying around.
They were finally painted up to match my IW bases.  Overall I am pretty happy with how they turned out and now I just wish I had the room to make a full sized board.

Blog Wars 6 – Iron Warriors List

So I will once again be carrying the Weemen flag into the breach that is Blog Wars. The Tournament Organiser, Alex, has now approved lists so I thought I would post mine up and let people know what they are in for…

HQ
Abaddon (my only feasible choice really...)
Troops
10x CSMs (Power Fist, Plasma Gun, Lascannon)
Rhino (Havoc Launcher)
10x CSMs (CCWs & BPs, Power Axe, Plasma Gun, Autocannon)
Thino (Havoc Launcher, Dirge Caster)
Elites
5x Terminators (Lightning Claw, 4x Power Fists, Reaper Autocannon, Cambi-Melta, Combi-Plasma)
Helbrute (Reaper Autocannon, Missile Launcher)
Fast Attack
Heldrake (Baleflamer)
Heavy
Vindicator (Combi-bolter)
5x Havocs (2x Missile Launchers, 2x Flakk Missiles, 2x Autocannons)
3x Obliterators (MoN)
Fortifications
Aegis Defence Line (Quad Autocannon)

So really it is the same list as I took to BW5, except I have dropped the Forgefiend and Comms Relay for a Vindicator, additional Rhino and Quad Autocannon. This wasn’t because of my unexpect4d success at BW5 (2ndoverall…still very random…) but because I haven’t had chance to add much to my army in the past 6 months; I am looking at introducing more Heresy units and IA are not allowed in Blog Wars.
I love the Forgefiend model (mine is one of my proudest paint jobs…), but the potential of the 3x S8 AP2 blasts are just never realised…either because it is blasted apart T1/T2 or it misses…a waste of 200pts. I’m hoping that the Vindicator will be slightly more durable…we’ll see.
The Comms Relay always seems useful, but to be honest, I very rarely needed it; Reserves are much easier to bring in now and if anything, I only ever used it to delay them a turn. On the other hand, a Quad Autocannon adds even more firepower to an already *relatively* shooty list and gives me another Skyfire/Interceptor option if I need it.

Having a look at the list breakdown that Alex has posted over on From the Fang, I think it is going to be a very interesting tournament…a lot of Nids (who amusingly I have never actually played against) and a distinct lack of Tau’dar or other nasty allies combos that I was dreading….we’ll have to see how it goes on the day…

Relictors Stalker AA Tank

Well, I am away again at sea - so in the meantime here is a few pics of the latest offering completed before I departed.  A Relictors Space Marine Stalker Anti-Air Tank. I love the model and the rules, much needed AA for the Codex Marines! I chose the Stalker over the Hunter as I love the idea of a 'WW2 Flak Tank' in the 41st Millennium, so here it is in it's glory.
Mean looking rhino don't you think - love the multi-barrelled Stalker Autocannons, and either TL or fire at two separate flyers with a BS2 penalty makes it versatile. Against a Stormraven, I'd recommend the other Hunter as it is S7 Armourbane and if misses, next turn it has another chance to seek-and-destroy. So, I'll get one of those next!
Finally, for those wondering, it is magnetised so the guns rotate. And if you wanted - from one kit, youcan easily magnetize the Hunter or Stalker parts for either on a single chassis - the only part that is required for both weapon ounts is the small aerial assembly - otherwise you can have both weapons from one boxset. I sold my Hunter bits on ebay for a tidy amount that will go towards the next Hunter/Stalker model!

Thanks for reading and I'll be back in due course with some more Relictor and Necron goodies. Take care.

Shadows of Brimstone – Kickstarter

Hi all – I thought I would throw this up on the blog in case anyone is interested.

Shadows of Brimstone is a new dungeon-crawler tabletop game by Flying Frog Production (the guys behind the excellent Last Night on Earth). It is a miniature and card based cooperative horror game that is set in the Wild West - with players creating characters based on classic western stereotypes. A new dark element has been found in the nearby mines which has opened portals to other worlds and is mutating the local wildlife.

The aim of the game is to explore the randomly generated mines and fight whatever lurks within. Players can then link games together into campaigns; visiting the local town to trade and level up before the next game.

Apparently Flying Frog had so much content for this game that they have released two core sets as well as a ton of extras including extra characters, enemies, expansion packs and cards.
The game is already funded and has raised almost $500K from nearly 1.8K backers after only a few days. I have backed at the $150 level which gets me both core games and all the stretch goals they unlock – which is currently standing at two dozen extra character and enemy minis, additional cards and terrain and expansion packs…and that’s after just a few days’ worth of goals! At this rate I am going to be getting a lot of stuff!

What I will say is take a look at their game and pledge levels – I think the $150 pledge is great value for what you are getting…but I would steer well clear of the comments, which have been taken over by a dozen or so ‘backers’ who have been moaning (literally) every minute since launch and under the pretense of the greater good (come on people – take a look at what’s on offer, decide for yourself if it is something you want to back and vote with your wallet…). Those few people have now created a really air of negativity and I hope any prospective backers are able to look past it and support what I hope is going to be a great game.

Birthday Pressie - Airbrush. Advice needed...

Hello Readers, sorry it's been a while. We haven't dropped off the planet, just been around the other side for a bit. Lord Halfpenny has been working hard at home and abroad a little bit, 6thDegree has been busy working Nottingham way and Siph has just returned from 2 months away at sea in the Middle East.

I myself am now home for the Crimbo period and got back to a wonderful Birthday present I have only just got to open - thanks to my gorgeous girlfriend, I am now the proud owner of an Airbrush!

Slightly daunting as I've only ever dabbled unsuccessfully with the GW tinned variety, this one has a reservoir which I know is good, two air brushes, the merits of which I am clueless and up to 4bar pressure compressor... so the good question is...

Can anyone point me in the right direction to good blog articles or give some practical advice when it comes to using this fine apparatus? I will no doubt experiment but some heads-up would be appreciated!!

It's a Single Cylinder Piston Compressor with Air Tank, 1/6 HP, 1450/1700rpm, 20-23L min output, 0-4bar, 3L air tank, suitable for airbrush nozzle 0.2mm-1mm ??

Happy Birthday to me indeed.  :)   Oh, and some more Centurions found themselves into my gift pile too! CC variants I think this time....

Relictors Space Marine StormTalon Gunship #2

Hi All, hope you are finished with work for the Crimbo Season, if not, thank-you for doing whatever essential work you do. I am lucky enough to be home for Christmas, many of my colleagues are not and are at sea over this period.

Anyway, thought I should post something I have just finished, my second StormTalon Gunship, finally completed after many a month in the pile of boxes labelled 'to-do', I bought this one at the same time as the first, so a while back! The first StormTalon can be found here, completed in Jun 2012.

This one is armed with Skyhammer Missles, for that lovely long range and S7 Heavy 3 goodness. Should ensure he takes out whatever anti-air the opposing force has on his arrival and then can get to grips with the support role. I've not bothered with magnetising the weapons as the first one has been, I envisage getting more use from a Skyhammer Armed Stormtalon. The Assault Cannon's are moveable side-to-side, here tracking where the pilot is looking.
The Techmarine pilot is painted to match the other Techmarines I have in the army already, grey arms and helmet but Mechanicus red armour. The wings are angled at 45 degrees and the landing gear has been extended to indicate it is either in the hover or coming to a hover. Again, I have glued the wings 'backward' to give a better more streamlined profile from above, more conventional wing like than the GW intended design.
The yellow missiles match the other missiles in the army, like the Centurion Sergeant chest weapon, Deathstorm Drop Pod and Whirlwind - visually linking it in with these.
The base is the only area I think I can easily improve with the next flyer, my flying bases so far are really simple and it seems like a waste of good basing to have them plain as they are.  Maybe a little scenery on the next flyer...

Finally, a shot with the first StormTalon, a nice pair of escorts to add some serious firepower to the army so far. And more importantly, another one off the to-do pile before Santa (hopefully) delivers yet more goodies!

Necron C'Tan Shard / Transcendent C'Tan

I was lucky enough to get a Necron Obelisk / Tesseract Vault for Christmas and have decided to build it as an Obelisk for that lovely Gravity Pulse each turn to ground flyers... there is always next year for a Tesseract Vault! So as I build and paint the big bit, the leftovers give enough pieces for a C'Tan Shard or as Alex (From the Fang) points out, a Transcendent C'Tan!
I decided to build it with a metal base piece so imply it is still under the control of a Necron Overlord, and from a black base I built up the colours from Scab Red through to Yellow. I know fire glows the brightest from the centre, but I'll leave that to the next year's Shard...
He has a simple collar and face mask to reflect the same colour scheme as the Necron Warriors with a little brass Icon. A bonus miniature, from leftovers - nice!

Hope you all had a good Christmas and a nice New Year!

Airbrush Vent System - Christmas Pressie

$

Another Christmas Pressie leading on from my recent Birthday Pressie, I am lucky enough to have an Airbrush desk vent system now so I can paint inside - it's too cold outside and the garage lacks electricity supply so this present is ideal!
The briefcase sized vent opens up easily and folds down the spray area, it all clicks into place and the electrical cable is even retractable. Very neat and simple.
The system can be used to vent straight through the rear of the case into the room, however I like the idea of venting to the fresh air so if the filter doesn't 100% clean the paint out of the exhaust, it won't be sucked back into my lungs! It also came with a turntable, ideal!

Right now I am (Siph) working on an Inquisitor, a Necron Obelisk, a StormRaven and a Relic Whirlwind Scorpius. Lord Halfpenny is working on his Relic Scorpius and 6thDegree is buried in the Iron Warriors Machine Forge somewhere...

Have a great New Year and a decent 2014 from all of us at Weemen HQ - Siph, Lord Halfpenny and 6thDegree ;)

Inquisitor Torquemada Coteaz and Psyber Eagle

So here is my latest offering, an e-bay purchase from a while ago - not all my own work I hasten to add, I liked the scheme so bought it and then repaired the chips, did the eyes, bionic eagle eye, cloak fur and re-painted the highlights on the cloak and the psber-eagle, did the purity seal and washed stuff here and there plus gave the base a paintjob to match all my others and in 1hr - bam! An as new Inquisitor Coteaz!
He is a nice new addition to the Allies of my Relictors - I will need to do the Servitor's he came with at some time in the future, maybe even need to do that box of Paladins and Grey Knights I bought ages ago... the Grey Knight's side project lost it's Stormraven to the Relictors when they changed the rules to allow all Marines to field them. So many projects and not enough hobby time!

Ultramarines vs Relictors Battle Report - 2000pts

$

Hi All,

With Siph being in the UK for a brief time last time he was in the country we set up a cheeky 2000 point battle to test out some of the new Space Marine Units- and for Siph to collect his Codex! But we never got round to posting until now!

The battle mission was 'purge the alien' with hammer and anvil deployment. The terrain was positioned to look like the outer defences for an abandoned city- using the walls of martyr and several 40k buildings.

My Ultramarine force included several new units that I hadn't used previously with the new codex- Tigurius- who has always been my favourite 40k character took command of my force, which also included a Scorpius Whirlwind (Forgeworld IA variant-using my old whirlwind model) and a landing pad to act as a fire base for my Contemptor and Centurions (cheesy yes, but I knew I was going to be needing a 4+invulnerable saves for the centurions..)

Siph's force included several new 'units' including 3 Devastator Centurions, Sternguard with Grav combi weapons and a squad of Scout bikers. Plus a Tac Sqd with a Grav Gun and some SM Bikes with Grav Guns. Two Vindicators formed the main guns of the army.
Turn 1- Ultramrines
  • Drop pod arrived, deep striking into the heart of the Relictors line- with its payload of 10 sternguard- causing wounds to the tactical marines and scout bikers with venegence rounds.
  • Scorpius Whirlwind caused further casualties to the tactical squad
Turn 1- Relictors
  •  The Tactical Squad, Grav Centurions, Scout Bikers and Marine Bikers turned on the recently arrived UM Sternguard and wiped them out to a man, pod and all.
  • Vindicators moved up to just outside the UM Centurions range ready for a turn two Barrage.
  • Relictor Sternguard podded into the rear lines of the UM army, using there Combi-Gravs, opened up on the Terminators killing 2 (Storm Shields saving the other 3 from 8 hits!) - the pod had a Locator Beacon for turn two Deep-Strike Teleporting Termies.
  • Scout squad on foot moved up the flank using Scout move and Run to get into position for their Teleport Beacon.
Turn 2- Ultramarines
  • Contemptor moves to fire upon the sternguard, with combined fire from the tactical squad all of the Relictor veterens are wiped out
  • Terminators charge the drop pod- however are unable to destroy the pod
  • Scorpius fire kills further Tactical marines
Turn 2 - Relictors
  • Both Assault and Terminator squads arrive via deep strike
  • Terminators open fire on the tactical squad- killing all 5 members
  • They then braced to weather the return fire from the Grav Centurions and Contemptor on the landing pad - hopefully they won't be able to see under the pad, however the scatter put me in the open.
  • Vindy's both move up into Grav Weapon range to fire and fire on the Centurions, killing two and missing Tigurius due to 'Look Out Sir'. More damage would have been done but both shots scattered 5in and 4++ saved 2 Centurions, darn Landing Pad special rules.
Turn 3- Ultramarines
  • Combined fire from tactical squad and Tigurius wipes out the terminator squad
  • Assault marines, razorback and second tactical combat squad combined fire wipes out 4 Assault terminators- with the 5th dispatched by the assault squad in CC
  • Scorpius Relic Whirlwind fire kills another tactical marine
  • Centurions freed from the Terminator threat open fire on Vindicators- destroying one, and stunning the second
  • Assault terminators still unable to destroy drop pod in CC
      Turn 3-Relictors
      • Vindicator returns fire at centurions- but misses! They are either really effective, or as scatter has made them in this game - useless.
      • Scouts open fire on marines in the ruins- killing one
      • Centurions and contemptor move forward keeping out of range of the UM Centurions, Contemptor blows arms off UM Dreadnought.
      Turn 4- Ultramarines
      • Second Vindicator is destroyed with grav fire from centurions
      • Scorpius fires on scout biker squad, killing 2 scouts
      Turn 4-Relictors
      • Scout with missile launcher fires at Scorpius- destroying it - much to the relief of Siph!
      • Tactical marine with missile launcher fires at the razorback, again destroying the vehicle.
      • All or nothing, Relictor Centurions and Contemptor move forward towards the UM Centurions and Tigurius- their shooting killing a single UM Centurion, failed by a withering hail of ones... just my luck. Contemptor opened up n UM counterpart and failed to damage!
      Turn 5- Ultramarines
      • UM Centurions open fire under guidance from Tigurius''prescience' wiping out the Relictor counterparts
      • Tactical Marines open fire at scouts, killing one
      • UM Mortis Contemptor destroys the Relictor contemptor with combined Kheres Assault Cannon and missile fire.
      Turn 5- Relictors
      • Scout bikers move forward and open fire on centurions killing one
      • Scouts return fire- killing a tactical marine
      End of game
As the battle concluded, points were calculated- a narrow Win for Lord Halfpenny- 12-10!!
Lord Halfpenny - I really enjoyed this battle, the plan to utilise the landing pad as a fire base worked perfectly- if very cheesey- (I'm sure this would of been a perfect plan in Gulli's eyes) the centurions and the contemptor 'duel off's' were my favourite parts, It was interesting to see how Tigurius got on with the new 'rules' I had hoped to have had 'iron arm' and ploughed him into the middle, however my rolling, and re-rolling failed me to start! I also really liked, and was impresed by the Scorpius- so much so I've ordered one! (or two...)

Siph - I was surprised of the effectiveness of the 4++ save given by the Landing Pad, sneaky Lord Halfpenny. My first tactic was to land a pod on the Landing pad and shoot the Centurions with the Sternguard, however that was foiled by positioning so I opted for shooting the Termies, but Storm Shields did their work and saved the squad I targeted. The duels of the Centurions were a highlight, but much to the dissapointment of my Centurions. I could have stayed out of range and danced off, however I chose to play all or nothing - but failing. Nevermind, a very enjoyable game. Next time I'll just target the Landing Pad building itself with the Vindicators - destroying it would have saved me a lot of frustration and hit the units sheltering on it!
      Here's to the next encounter!!

      Iron Warriors - Rhino

Hi guys - Happy New Year!

It seems that I have disappeared slightly since the start of December (Siph edit: November mate!) and whilst I have been crazily busy, I have managed to get quite a bit of painting done - so my hobbying News Year's Resolution is going to be getting more posts out.

Here we have my second Rhino for the Iron Warriors. I actually picked this up with my 2nd place winnings from Blog Wars 5 (which was summer '13), which gives an idea of how long it's taken me to get it posted.
As with my other Rhino, it's decked out with Forgeworld Iron Warrior doors to keep the theme going.

Its also armed with the excellent Havok Missile Launchers to throw around a bit more template hurt.

      Necron Obelisk Flying Base

As mentioned in a previous post, one of my Christmas presents was a Necron Obelisk / Transcendent C'Tan and now the base is done for the superheavy skimmer. I also wanted to add something to the flying base as I mentioned in my StormTalon post, the flying bases are great opportunities to add a more cinematic touch to your miniatures but often left empty and wanting.
When I bought the StormTalon's ages ago I was missing an engine thruster so I bought some bits on e-bay to replace the missing part - the upside of this is I have enough engine and wing parts to decorate a number of bases as either this one or as a gaming 'flyer destroyed' marker...
The choice of Chapter to paint the pieces as was a tough one, my Relictors or Lord Halfpenny's Ultramarines or something different? So I opted for Imperial Fists to brighten up an otherwise dark miniature, and complement the blue scheme with some yellow. It was also an opportunity to practice some yellow and weathering - so glad my Relictors are a more forgiving Grey!!

I'll post the obelisk shortly... when I've finished the huge thing!

      Iron Warrors - Tracked Turret

Back in October Siph posted a Kickstarter for some alternate Heavy weapons and combi-bolters - as well as a nice tracked turret from PDC Gaming.

I also backed the Kickstarter and managed to build and paint up of of these little guys.
Its an alright little mini - hardly packed with detail, but it was pretty cheap and I am only going to use it as either an Icarus Lascannon for my Aegis Defence Line, or perhaps a heavy weapon for a Renegade Guard army thats floating round in my head...
I have a pair of them, so this one is glued together as-is, but the second has a range of weapons I am looking to magnetise.
I painted it up to match the rest of the Iron Warrior army and covered up the lack of detail with loads of weathering.
