Forgeworld Sicaran Battletank Size Comparison

$
0
0
For all those who want to see the size of the fairly new FW Sicaran Battle Tank, here is a few shots of it with the next two sized tanks - the Sicaran is meant to be the STC link between a Landraider and a Predator, a proper Astartes Battletank, so this shows the size against those.
The Imperial Armour Vol2, 2nd Edn book War Machines of the Adeptus Astartes has rules for this tank, the relic status means one can be fielded with normal 40K, and it is worth it with Accelerator Autocannons (Hvy 6, TL and Rending) and Lascannon Side Sponsons it threatens Landraiders (and the high rate of TL fire means it does kill them).
As for the model itself, the two track sections and sides are one piece each with the hull pieces in-between, it fits together easily and was (Lord H's words) a dream to build with only the usual minor straightening of the cannon barrels.

As for its looks, we both love its hunkered down heavy metal look and I can't wait to build mine. Lord H is a little further ahead with it's construction and basecoated as above. We'll post here when done.

Hope you found the comparison helpful.

Relictors vs Ultramarines - BatRep 2000pts - The Relic

Yet again the Lord Halfpenny Ultramarines were pitched against the Siph Relictors to try and claim a relic of untold power from the battlefield (the Cypher model on the Temple of Skulls below).  The two opposing forces set up Hammer and Anvil and the warlord traits were rolled, Tigurius for the UM's with Storm of Fire and Captain Blaylock caused Fear (fat lot of good with ATSKNF)...
The Relictors comprised of Capt Blaylock (FW Badab Character - Termies are Scoring), 2x Assault Termies with Landraider Godhammer and Redeemer, Relic Scorpius Whirlwind (for AP3 death), Mortis Contemptor (Kheres Ass Cannon and Typhoon ML for Skyfire), a Whirlwind Deathstorm Drop Pod, 2x 5 man Tac Sqd with Plasma Cannon and two StormTalon aircraft with Skyhammer Missiles in reserve. (12 VPs)
The UM's comprised of a FW Sicaran Battletank with Accelerator Cannons/Lascannons, Dakka Predator, Mortis Contemptor with Kheres Ass Cannon and ML for Skyfire, 5x man Tac Sqd in Ass Razorback, 6x man Assault Marine Sqd, 5x man Scout Sqd, 5 man Tac Sqd in DP, Damocles Rhino (for Orbi Bombard), 2 Laser Destroyer Rapiers, 2x Attack Bike (HB and MM), 4x 5 man Sternguard in 2 DPs (10x Grav Guns). (18VPs)
UM Turn 1 - Drop Pod Assault meant 20 Sternguard dropped into the Relictor lines, 20 Grav Gun shots where ineffective against the Landraiders, stripping a single Hull Point from the Redeemer. Sicaran, Dakka Pred and Mortis Contemptor moved forward, Scouts infiltrated and ran to the Relic Objective in the centre of the battlefield.
Here the Sternguard pour fire into the Relictor Tac Squads killing 2 marines with Vengeance Rounds and Grav glancing the Landraider. The Hellfire rounds of the Sternguard kill 3 Terminators, two with Storm Shields of Captain Blaylocks Sqd.
The two Attack Bikes zoom forward down the left flank and Rapiers take up positions in the ruins.
The Damocles Rhino uses its Comms Link to call down a Turn 1 Orbi Bombardment onto the Godhammer, but even with Ordnance double roll fails to penetrate the thick hull! Much to the relief of the Relictors.
But the Sicaran opens fire with its rending Accelerator Autocannons ripping the Redeemer apart, stripping its hull points and penetrating, wrecking the Landraider and Assault Terminator transport! The Sicaran is to be feared!
Relictor Turn 1 - The Relic Whirlwind Scorpius open fired on the Scouts claiming the Relic in the centre and wiped them out with D3+1 Blasts! The Mortis Contemptor open fired on a combat sqd of Sternguard only killing two, a Plasma Cannon wielding Tac Sqd did better, opening fire on a Sternguard Combat Squad killing 4, leaving a lone marine. The other Plasma Cannon missed. The Godhammer fired his TL Lascannons at the AV13 Sicaran but failed to even glance. The Deathstorm Drop Pod scatters but still fires and hits 5 UM units in a rain of Whirlwind fire but poor rolling see's only the Assault Marines losing 3 marines. The Assault Termies charged the Sternguard, wiping out one Combat Squad but opening up the Captain to return fire next turn.

First Turn see's the UMs with 2 VPs - Redeemer and First Blood, Relictors 2 VPs Scout Sqd and Sternguard.
UM Turn 2 - (ignore the StormTalon - I took the photo at the start of the Relictor turn) The Drop Pod UMs strike again, Meltagun and Attack bike MM kills the Godhammer, the Sicaran and Mortis Contemptor both open up on Captain Blaylock and bodyguard killing the Warlord and Termies under sheer weight of fire - 22 high strength shots! The Laser Rapiers tear through the Whirlwind Drop Pod. In assault, a Sternguard Combat sqd is defeated by the other Terminators. Unengaged Sternguard and Drop Pods kill two more Tac Marines reducing them to a single Plasma Cannon on the black ruins, 4 marines incl Plasma Cannon on grey ruins. UM now 7 VPs - gaining Godhammer, Termies, Warlord and Slay Warlord and Whirlwind Drop Pod. Relictors on 3VPs gaining Sternguard Combat Squad.
Relictor Turn 2 - The Relictor Army was looking in tatters losing its Captain, half the Termies and both Landraiders however, the Termies left still melee with the Sternguard but in a disorganised charge destroyed a Drop Pod with a Thunder Hammer, StormTalon arived, strafing the Attack Bikes, killing the MM Attack bike. The Mortis Contemptor killed 3 of the Tac Marines from the latest Drop Pod, including the Meltagun removing that threat and made the other two flee. The Scorpius fired on the Razorback but scattered onto the Predator only stripping 1 hull point. Both Plasma Cannons concentrated on the Razorback containing the remaining scoring troops and Tigurius stripping 2 hull points. Relictors now on 4VPs with the Drop Pod being destroyed. UMs remain on 7VPs.
UM Turn 3 - The HB Attack Bike opened up on the remaining Tac Marine with the Plasma Cannon killing him and wiping out the sqd, but the remaining unengaged single Sternguard open fired on the other Plasma Cannon Tac Marine with Vengeance Rounds killing himself when his weapon overheated! The Drop Pod Stormbolter also open fired on the Plasma Cannon Tac Marine hitting him twice but his armour saved him. The other Drop Pod and Predator snap shot at the StormTalon missing. The remaining 3 Assault Marines charged the Termies locked in combat with the Sternguard, killing one Termie but the Terminators fought back killing the Sternguard Sqd and 2 Assault Marines leaving one. UMs now on 8VPs with the Tac Sqd, Relictors now on 6VPs with the misfired Sternguard and the close combat Sternguard.
Relictor Turn 3 - Plasma Cannon opens fire on the rear armour of the Razorback again, but bounces off.  The 2nd StormTalon arrives from reserve and strafed the remaining Attack Bike killing it. The Mortis Contemptor spies the 2 remaining Tac Marines making a run for the relic in the centre and cut them down with its Kheres Assault Cannons! The Scorpius Whirlwind destroyed the Razorback holding Tigurius and the 5x man Tac Sqd in the centre. In assault, the Thunderhammer Termies wipe out the Assault Marines.
The Relictor Termies hunker down behind the Drop Pod after dispatching the final Assault Marine, sheltering from the combined fire of the Sicaran, Mortis Contemptor and Dakka Pred. Who said war has to be glorious! UMs 8VPsRelictors now ahead on 10VPs with the Razorback, Assault Marines, Attack bike and Tac Combat Squad.
UM Turn 4 - The Contemptor Skyfires it's missiles at the StormTalon in the centre, glancing it stripping a hull point but the flyer remained out of range for the Assault Cannons. The Sicaran opens fire on the Relic Whirlwind in the rear of the Relictor lines, but is saved by the surrounding ruins and wreck of the Landraider.
The UM Laser Destroyer Rapiers snap fire at the other Relictor StormTalon, needing sixes to hit, both roll a six and the Laser Destroyers punch through the doomed flyer! UMs now on 9VPs, Relictors remain 10VPs.
Relictor Turn 4 - The Drop Pod on the left flank is torn apart in a salvo of fire from the Contemptor giving up another VP, the StormTalon zooms off the board to avoid the Turn 5 guns of the Ultramarines. Relictors now 11VPs, UMs remain 9VPs.
UM Turn 5 - Contemptor and Predator both open fire on the exposed Plasma Cannon Tac Marine, tearing him apart, leaving 3 marines hunkered down behind the building. The Tac Sqd in the centre run toward the Relic in the middle. VPs remain UM 9VPs, Relictors 11VPs.
Relictor Turn 5 - The StormTalon returns to strafe the Tac Marines in the centre killing 4, leaving a lone scoring marine in grasp of the Relic if there is a sixth turn? The Scorpius Whirlwind opened up on the now exposed Rapier Laser Battery, killing two guns and three crew, leaving a lone crew member to evade a VP. Mortis Contemptor open fired on the remaining Drop Pod with its ML, but both missed! My remaining Termies and Tac Squad ingloriously hunkered down behind the building in cover to try to deny two easy VPs. We roll for a sixth turn and there is one! Can the dwindling Relictors hold out? VPs remain UM 9VPs, Relictors 11VPs.
UM Turn 6 - Much to the dismay of the Relictors, the Predator and Mortis Contemptor downs the StormTalon, glancing it to death. The Sicaran opened up on the Relic Whirlwind again, however the thick frontal armour saved it. UMs now 10VPs with the downed StormTalon, Relictors 11VPs.
Relictor Turn 6 - The Mortis Contemptor moved up to fire all its guns at the lone Marine on the hill by the relic, 12 Kheres Assault Cannon shots and 2 Krak Missiles fail to take the marine in cover after he goes to ground. However, the Relic Scorpius Whirlwind concentrates its firepower on the same marine tearing him apart in AP3 goodness! Relictors now 12VPs with that Tac Combat Sqd. UMs 10VPs. We roll for a seventh turn but to my relief we don't get one.
Endgame

Finally a Siph Relictor Victory and the end to a year of defeats, I didn't win in 2013, 2014 is better already! A hard fought 12VPs win over the UMs 10VPs.

Siph - Well, that was an awesome teeth gnashing, butt clenching battle to the end. Only won by the amount of VPs on hand for the taking. The Relictors played the mission, taking out any UMs that tried to claim the relic and concentrating on taking out the troops when more juicy targets were available, however were out gunned by the UMs from turn two after losing their Landraiders, half the Termies and their Warlord! I plugged away at the UMs taking 12 of the possible 18VPs, meaning Lord H had to wipe me out or gain the Secondary mission VPs of which he took Slay Warlord and First Blood, narrowly missing out on Linebreaker as no denial Units were in my Deployment zone, however 2 vehicles were. I really felt the teeth of the new Sicaran Battletank, those Accelerator Cannons with rate of fire and Rending tore through my Landraider! But my Relic Whirlwind Scorpius fought back with equal tenacity taking out Scouts, Rapiers, Marines and a Razorback, and the final marine grabbing the Relic when the 14-shot Mortis Contemptor failed! We have also looked at the rules for shooting artillery, we should have applied wounds against the guns under the Blast and removed them first, rolling for feedback explosion so I may of gained a lucky result there, however the wreck of the landraider in the centre should also have been removed as it exploded, that would of made me move the Scorpius earlier in game and may have been more exposed to the Sicaran guns later.

Lord H -Indeed, this was a battle of epic proportions- there were laughs, tears and a lot of cursing. (Normally Siph aimed at the dice gods...) After turn 2 I thought I was in a commanding position, having reduced the Relictors army quite considerably with combined Sternguard/Sicaran/Predator/Contemptor fire- however Siph fought back (and hid.. lol) with the talons and Scorpius taking its toll on my force.
My mistake(s) were that I split my Sternguard into combat squads, giving Siph 6 easy VP's for the taking, I hoped that the grav weapons would have popped the land raider then I could have killed the terminators inside with the other grav weapons- in hindsight I should of used the Sicaran/Contemptor to destroy the tank first, then grav'ed the terminators to death as they disembarked.. My other real mistake was giving Siph easy targets, perhaps I should have kept my razorback, scouts, tactical squad and assault marines within my deployment zone, out of the range of the Scorpius- however I went for the relic for the win. It would of been a pretty boring battle if we had both sat back in our respective deployment zones!
Another note is how me and Siph seem to be very much in tune with each other with regards our forces- I had looked at a Dark Angels force lead by Belial with scoring terminators- very similar to the force Siph used..
My unit of the  battle has to be the Sicaran battle tank, it obliterated everything it fired at- and my thoughts are towards having a squad of 3 of them!

Thanks for reading, and i hope you enjoyed our battle report..

Iron Warriors - Rhino Counts-As

Hi again. I picked up this tank as part of Ramshackle Games Brothers of Iron Kickstarter. I pledged around £30 and got the tank and some soldier figures that I will be using for Cultists/Renegade Guard (when I get around to it).
The tank is about the same size as a Rhino - so I will be using it as a counts-as  if I ever need a spare for my Iron Warriors, or for the other projects I've mentioned.

The sculpt is pretty nice - lots of rivets and the tracks are more interesting than GWs offerings, although it is a little light on weapons (you get loads in the kit, but not many hard-points to fix them to). I went with the mini-cannon so it can be a Havoc Missile launcher.
The thing weighs a ton - its mad up of 2 or 3 solid blocks of resin - so don't want to drop that on anything...

It got painted up as normal for my Iron Warriors, with plenty of weathering butI left off any sort of Iron Warrior insignia for now - it looks the part with the rest of my army but I have a theme I am going for in my head with the Renegade Guard, so am sticking to that for now.
Here is a side-by-side pic with a Rhino for some scale - pretty close eh?

Necron Obelisk - Apocalypse Superheavy Skimmer

A huge offering today, I have finished my Necron Obelisk superheavy skimmer, a Necron beast that is designed to clear the skies of enemy fliers with it's Gravity Pulse out to 24 inches hitting all enemy fliers with a Strength 8 hit every turn, nice.
Top that off with 4 Tesla Spheres for self protection and more firepower, this is a cool kit with a big battlefield presence. Surprisingly though, for such a big model, it was essentially just 4 sides of a box, quite quick to paint. The inside (only seen if you look directly underneath) is simply sprayed metallic and washed with Badab Black.
I have continued my Necron colour scheme from my own Necron Flyer Doom/Nightscythe using Necron Abyss and Encharted Blue as a highlight plus the lower section as a metallic colour. The gauss energy for my army is a reddish colour and looks great against the blue as a spot colour.
One of my favourite parts is the Canoptek Guardians attached to the sides, each with another Gauss glow light for another spot colour and the 64 legs I foolishly had to paint the crevices with Boltgun Metal (Leadbleacher) after seeing the 'Eavy Metal version... but it makes the model for me.  The final photo below shows a quite 'Independence Day'-esque view of the crashed Imperial flyer. Nice.

Iron Warriors - Legion Praetors

From the moment Forgeworld released their Legion Praetor models, I knew I had to have them - they are absolutely stunning AND come in Cataphractii and Mk3 armour (perfect for my HH Iron Warriors). Its easy to see why these are in the top selling Forgeworld products month-in month-out.
First up is the Cataphractii Praetor. Now I'm not sure where I read/hear it (maybe Horus Rising), but I was under the impression that only the Emperors Children were allowed to bear the Aquila on their armour - I may be wrong, but I still want it on my Iron Warriors, so I'm going with it... Both Praetors have the Aquila across their chest, so the first job was carefully removing this with a scalpel.
I'm not sure of the rules for the weapon, but this Praetor comes with a Volkite Charger and whilst it might be good, it doesn't really fit with the rest of my army, so for now, he's got a combi-bolter (pre-Heresy of course).
I made a small scenic base to fit with the rest of my army and it was ready for painting!
I painted him up to match the rest of my Iron Warriors - but thought I would push the boat out and try something new for the Power Sword. I had a look round some tutorials and found a good one for a lightening effect that would work in the blues that I have been using for plasma/power sources.

Next up is the Mk3 Praetor. Again, I removed the Aquila as carefully as possible (some of the ornate details are very fine). I left the load-out the same - I was tempted to swap the archaeotech pistol, but couldn't bring myself to lose something that looks that good - I guess I will play it as a Plasma Pistol in 40K or something... The only swap I made was for an Iron Warriors shoulderpad (to then find out that Forgeworld will be released Iron Warrior Mk3 shoulderpads in the near future...curses!)
This guy got a hunk of rock (or cork) to stand on and give him some presence on the battlefield - and was painted up as normal.

The sword got painted up to match the Cataphractii and I was able to add a little light sourcing coming off it (I also did this for the Cataphractii but its less noticable).
Hope you like!

Iron Warriors - Hell Blade

Hi all - so this is one of the latest models I have been working on - a Chaos Hell Blade.

Lets be honest, the Heldrake is pretty much an auto-include for CSMs...I wish they weren't, but if you don't want to go down the zombie-cultist route, Turkeys and Obliterators are your best choice. I have a Heldrake model (here) and whilst they are ok, they don't really fit with the aesthetic of my Iron Warrior army - so I've been eying up a Hell Blade/Talon counts-as for a while now.
I did a bit of research and the general consensus was that the Hell Blade roughly matched the size and shape of a Heldrake (if you modeled the wings forward) - which is nice seeing as the Blade is half the price of a Talon.

The model was relatively easy to put together - with the wings just needing a bit of the hairdryer treatment to get them straight and aligned.

I had already planned on making the model as dynamic as possible - with the Hell Blade swooping low over the battlefield, so I actually started work on the base first.

The chrome rod that I use to stand the model is randomly from an old printer...

I painted the model up using my normal IW techniques and colour schemes and went for some blue heat-glows from the engines to liven it up a bit.

Hope you like!

Relictor Daemon Prince

A while ago I posted a few WIP shots of a project I was working on- my Relictor inspired Daemon Princes- a slight nod towards Siph's force..

The model has been slightly converted- using a spare contemptor head instead of the daemon heads to portray the 'Space Marine' feel- also added were the spiked trophy rack to his upper shoulders, and a banner taken from the bloodletters sprue- the plan was to have a banner similar to one of Siph's marines. The model has been slightly tilted backwards to appear slightly taller than a normal daemon princess- this is enforced with the raised helmet, and the addition of 'brocken sprues' to the base to add further height.

My thought process was that these marines have turned to using daemon weapons against daemonkind- with these model representing what happens if the weapon 'fights back'

The model has been painted with the Relictors grey theme, with a contrasting purple for the daemons skin- this i think worked really well. The banner matched the colours of Siphs banners, with the skull in the centre with a contrast black strip across a bleach bone- I've also had a number '5' to the banner to represent the 5th Company- unfortunately the transfer sheets didn't have a small '5'- but did have a small '2', so i simply rotated and flipped the number. The details of the armour, signs and eyes were picked out with reds oranges and yellows, to give a sense of fire- a theme I've tried to use within my daemon force.

I hope you like the conversion- and thanks for looking!

So around a year ago my local gaming club, Red Steel Preston had their first annual painting competition - and I did pretty well, picking up first in the large model class with my Forgefiend.

We recently held the second installment of the painting comp and I decided to submit my Helblade and a small squad of Iron Warriors in Mk3 armour (which I've not posted up yet), led by a Praetor.

As with the first competition, the club had a photo booth ready to take pics of all the entries, so here or mine (pro-photo style!).

You can find the Red Steel gallery here.

I am very proud to say that my Iron Warriors were able to help me pull another win - for the squad! Woot!

Relictors Relic Whirlwind Scorpius - Forgeworld Goodness

I'm posting this whilst away again at sea, I completed this over Crimbo and you've seen it perform admirally against Lord Halfpenny's UM's. Here is the latest offering for the growing Relictor Armoury... A FW Relic Whirlwind Scorpius. After being on the receiving end of one of these from Lord Halfpenny's Ultramarines, I had to get one! AP3 goodness, and D3+1 shots if it doesn't move! Marine killer... I found out the hard way :)
The launcher shape is the big difference from a normal Whirlwind, very Rogue Trader Missile Launcher-esque, it also has a Deimos Rhino Hull. I love the look and feel of this Mark, a nice nod at the nostalgic past, I had several MKI Rhino's back in the day.
This variant also comes with a Stormbolter (two Bolters) as standard. Nice. The new IA Book Vol2 Edn 2 comes with all the updated rules for using these FW vehicles in normal 40K, or using escalation etc. The only limitation with this one, is it is a Relic of the Armoury, so likewise, it is rare you can only field one of a Relic classed vehicle in the army - so not OP, in my opinion, quite balanced and nice to spice it up.
I've added a number of Purity Seals and honours to reflect it's 'relic' status. The missiles are yellow to link it with the rest of the army and also to lift the model from being a rather dark one. Just like every vehicle I do, I regret my choice of boltgun metal coloured rivets - all 497 of them! lol
Here is a comparison shot with the second of my Whirlwinds, also with yellow missiles, the Relic Scorpius looks quite brutal I reckon!
And here is the simple magnet job to ensure the turret rotates but doesn't fall off. A simple bit of sprue and some powerful tiny magnets.

Lord Halfpenny's new hobby corner

Hi All,

A quick post to start the week. I thought I'd share with you my new hobby corner. I recently bought several paint rack systems from eBay, with a view of developing a good hobby area to work in. Previously I had paints in all manner of boxes, and would really only use a small palette of colours due to space- I was also very bad in having multiple projects on at the same time filling the work bench.

I bought the items from frontierwargaming (http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/frontierwargaming) Frontierwargaming were extremely help full and have a lot of other useful bits for all war gaming.
The Racks come flat packed, and go together really well- the instructions are easy to follow.. My rack system incorporates 4, 34 spaced straight racks, a corner paint pot rack, and an accessories rack. each rack has spaces for brushes etc. The paint pot spaces are designed to house almost all model paint pots.

The racks went together really well, and sit nicely as a unit. These can be magnetised to one another to make the racks 'one piece'

I'm really happy with the racks- although I have found I have a slight OCD in making sure the paint bots are in exactly the right position and place...

I've also added a 'spice rack' to act as a conveyor belt for models as i paint them- also there are two desk lights, one being a 'day light' light with magnifying glass. There's also an Ipod docking station in the corner so I can have some tunes busting out as I paint!

Relictors Landspeeder - Apocalypse Suppression Squadron

$

Coming at you from sea still - A small update to my ever growing Relictor Battle Company, another landspeeder which I found in my big pile-o'-to-do box, I intended this for a Apocalypse Suppression Squadron when Apoc came out, so finally I had this completed in January! Now I just have to go find the rules somewhere as it is not in the latest Apoc edition... basically the Landspeeder acts as a spotter and if has LOS, the Whirlwinds don't count as firing indirectly - or something along those lines. Anyway, one can never have too many anti-tank fast options for 40K.
The frontal view shows the underslung sensor package, this is the Marine Sensor from the Apoc Command Upgrade Sprue. And because the formation can be any type of Landspeeder, I opted for a basic MM armed one so I could field in a normal game of 40K when points were tight.
The tail fin has the numeral III as it is the third Landspeeder I have done, so all three can operate as a Squadron if wanted.
The rear thrusters of the landspeeder show a red and blue 'light', just the same as the others and the same as any Marine Backpack or Terminator waist in the army so far, a visual link to the rest of the force. Grab a mini and look - see bet you didn't even notice they were there!
Finally, a shot of the whole Squadron together - that must be able to toast a Landraider or Sicaran Battletank or two...

Chaos Daemons- Fateweaver

Hi All,

a quick post to start the week- here we have 'Fateweaver'. The moment I started my daemon force I knew I needed Fateweaver- the rules for him in 5th Edition were amazing- re-rolls galore and with lots of options available for causing lots of pain and suffering to your opponents force. With the new Daemons 6th ed codex he has been slightly nuffered.

I've used a mainly 'blue' scheme with highlights up on the wings to show the feathery appearance. The staff I painted to fit in with my khrone 'flame' swords with the staff having a yellow/orange/red glow to it.

My favourite 'in battle moment with Fatweaver has to be either the time he battled with 6thdegree's swarmlord in close combat with a ridiculous number of re-rerolls or the time at BW, in which he turned the game in one turn by turning a tervigon into a chaos spawn..
I hope you like.

WIP - Life on an Ocean Wave

I have been away at sea for a while, but not idle - whilst serving the greater good, making the oceans safer and hunting for downed aeroplanes, I have been busy in my free evenings doing a little work with the brushes, dependent on sea state and ship roll, I made some good progress on the new Tactical Squad plastics, made some progress (finally) with some of my Necrons and started on another squad of Centurions, this time Assault Centurions.

The pennies add a nice stable weight to the underside of the bases, a top tip!

I'll be progressing with various projects whilst back home, including a StormRaven with Chapterhouse extension plus finishing these of course!

Necron Warriors - Squad 01

It was about time I progressed a little with my 'other' army after so many Space Marine Relictors Chapter new toys goodness, so some time and effort (very little) went towards my Necron force with a first Troop choice, some lowly Necron Warriors in an attempt to offer a valid second force, albeit a small 'secondary detachment' soon for my games with Lord Halfpenny.

I finally had decided on a colour scheme and what colour and effect to do the gauss energy, so after experimenting with the Obelisk after Christmas and a Night Scythe / Doom Scythe, the colours were still being finalised and I have stuck with the red energy.

As these are lowly warriors, they don't show any of the accent colour for armour plates of a dark blue as seen in the other vehicles. I intend to add blue armour to more important troops and characters to show their higher status, but these dude are the simplest lowliest troopers. And the first of a few...

I'm currently working on the repaint of the Necron Destroyer I painted as a test scheme way back in May 2012.

Necron Destroyer - Final Colour Scheme Development!

$

So, with the Necron Warriors gauss energy red in colour, I had to re-paint the Necron Destroyer I painted as a test example literally years ago. The main colours for my ever growing Necron Army is obviously metallics as every Necron player knows, but also another colour - dark blue, with a Bronze accent colour and the gauss reddish energy.
It has taken a number of iterations to finally settle on a colour scheme I liked. Here are the previous incarnations, firstly black carapace with blue energy. This was the first attempt, I liked the black but it was missing something.
Next I tried a blue, aptly named Necron Abyss, and it worked well with the gold transfers but I wasn't overly happy with the gauss blue energy. I didn't want the over used Green energy, especially the plain green plastic rods - they look lego-like. I wanted painted effects so I experimented with a few colours before settling with a nice red blend to orange with yellow lightning flecks.
So now, with the red energy and the blue carapace I was worried it would clash too much but I like it and somehow it works I reckon. So there it is, the development of my Necron colour scheme. Now I am happy with it, I reckon the progress will speed up - can't wait to get these guys on the battlefield and battle Lord Halfpenny and 6thDegree with something other than Relictor Marines.

Thanks for reading.

Necron Immortals - Getting your monies worth, doubling the squads!

Anyone with Necrons will probably have too many Warriors laying about and some of the plastic Immortal kits with plenty of leftover parts. Lots of leftovers, I have only just begun my Necron advance and yet the bits box is pretty big already.
This conversion uses parts from the Immortal kit and the Warriors, I made my Immortals using the instructions and armed them with Tesla Carbines, but this left oodles of spares and the Deathmark rear torso's and Gauss Blasters as juicy leftovers... so using the legs, front torso and head from the Warrior and the rear Deathmark torso, arm and weapon from the Immortal leftovers, I constructed a fairly convincing new squad of Immortals.
I am yet to fill the joins with liquid green stuff, but both share the larger shoulder blades and bulked up profile over the thinner warrior's frame. The only thing missing is the distinctive wire leading to the gun - I may later construct some using guitar wire, but for now it will be left off. The Gauss Flayer is not plugged in, so neither are my Gauss Blasters.
Hope this gives you some ideas to use up the spare kits you may have laying around.

Battle Report Ultramarine's VS Iron Warrior's 3600 point battle at Warhammer World (picture heavy)

Saturday 22nd March saw a rematch between my Ultramarine's against 'the6thdegree's' Iron Warriors over a beautifully made table at Warhammer World. It was about 6 months since we last fought army against army- imperial against heretic, marine again marine.

We managed to book the Tau Research Station on Vigos table- the location for the next conflict...

We went for a largish game at 3600 points each, giving space to include new units. I had recently built a pair of Imperial Knights, along with a Fire Raptor which I really wanted to try out. I also wanted to try out the Stormeagle as a ROC pattern after reading the rules in the new IA2 update.

We decided to have an objective in each deployment, worth 5pts to ourselves and 10pts to our opponents (courtesy of Blog Wars) and the Golden Daemon in the middle was worth 10pts.

Deployment
Ultramarines
The plan was simple - Knights would take the centre- with support from Calgar, Terminators, Contemptor and Sicaran, Tigurius would sit holding the objective in my deployment zone with the Assault squad and 10 man Tactical squad with the dread there to provide air cover. The Master of the Forge would be located as far away as possible in a good position to fire conversion beamer blasts at the chaos force. The Sternguard would drop pod into the heart of the Iron Warriors and eliminate targets with melta and grav fire. The Raptor and Eagle 'should' arrive in turn 2 with combined re rolls (from Tigurius) and +1 to the roll (from the Damocles) these would fly on to again take out targets- the scouts would be within the eagle to hopefully claim the Iron Warriors deployment objective if they get the chance.
Deployment
Iron Warriors
Going second, the Iron Warriors were going to take a Turn 1 pounding, so deployed in as much cover as possible and focussed on a choke point in the middle of the table where the Golden Daemon was placed (which luckily was only big enough for a single Knight to move through at a time). The Land Raider with the Warpsmith and marine squad inside it, positioned to the within the forest opposite the UM's objective. In support of the Land Raider was a rhino with further marines, and a Forgefiend deployed within the woods. The Defiler was positioned to offer fire support from the centre, along with another Rhino with cultists, a Hellbrute and Vindicator. Behind the aegis defence line was the Icarus Defence laser, the  Obliterators and Havocs- with a Hellbrute Dakka in support. The 2 Helldrakes, Abaddon and Termis were kept in reserve.
Turn 1:Ultramarines

  • Drop Pod lands behind the Aegis defence line
  • Sternguard with Grav Combi Weapons killing off 3 Obliterators
  • Sternguard with Melta Combi Weapons destroy the Vindicator
  • Imperial Knight Errant with Thermal Cannon kills Hellbrute and kills a Obliterator in the blast
  • Conversion Beamer immobilised the rhino with the cultists
  • Sicaran destroys the remaining Hellbrute
  • Scorpious damages the other rhino.
  • T6D rolls the worst game of his life….so many failed saves!

the Iron Warriors 'dead pile' T1....
    Turn 1: Iron Warriors
    • Cultists disembark from Rhino, and open fire on the Sternguard combat squad- 2 Marines are lost
    • Marines disembark from the other Rhino behind the aegis defence line killing a marine in the melta combat squad
    • Obilterators killed a further two of the melta Sternguard squad
    • Fire from the forgefiend and Defiler cause several hits on the two Imperial Knights resulting in the lost of 2 hull points to the Errant and 1 to the Paladin knight.
    • Further fire proves ineffective due to the continued abysmal rolling on the6thdegree's part
    Turn 2 :Ultramarines

    • Both Stormeagle and Fire Raptor arrive from reserves
    • Stormeagle fires upon the Landraider- causing a glancing hit
    • Scorpious opens fire on the Chaos marine squad- causing 17 wounds with 4 Barrages, killing them all outright (T6D – how??????????)
    • The 2 sternguard combat squad combine hellfire shooting- 10 shots, 10 wounds- killing 10 cultists (T6D – to which dice gods were praying???? Madness!)
    • Fire Raptor causes several wounds on the remaining Obliterators
    • Errant Knight kills several Havocs
    • Sicaran open fires on the defiler- destroying with weight of fire
    • Terminators and Calgar march towards the centre of the board
    • (T6D – At this point I thought the game was over with around half of my units destroyed).

    Turn 2: Iron Warriors

    •  Helldrake arrives from reserves and takes position to oppose the Fire Raptor- initially attacks via a vector strike- causing damage- then auto cannon fire blows it out of the skies
    • Obliterators, obliterate the Knight Errant with Multi-Melta fire (T6D – oh yeah!!!!)
    • Forgefind fires with bioplasma weapons- resulting in 4 hull points lost to the paladin (6th rolling 3 6's one after the other...) killing the noble knight (T6D – oooohhhhh yeeeeaaaahhh!!!)
    • Further fire from the Havocs and Rhinos result in wounds to terminators, but all are saved
    • (T6D – finally with the dice gods on my side I managed to wipe out around 1000pts worth of LordH’s scariest units…I might still be in the game).
    Turn 3: Ultramarines
    •  Stormeagle destroys the land raider with combined lascannon, melta and missile fire- killing a marine from the squad embarked
    • Sternguard kill open fire on the havocs with vengeance bolter fire, killing them all bar one
    • Sicaran kills another obliterator
    • Master of the forge opens fire with the conversion beamer on the forgefiend- taking a hull point and immobilising it
    • Fire from the Scorpious kills the remaining Havoc
    • Auto cannon rifleman dreadnought opens fire on the remaining 'undamaged rhino' blasting it to pieces and killing 2 of the squad embarked.
    • The Damocles fires it ordnance on the squad who have just disembarked the wrecked rhino - however this is missed.
    Turn 3: Iron Warriors

    • Abbadon arrives with his terminator retinue- however there is a mishap and they arrive off table- and are delayed (T6D – a tense moment when we had to look up which result was Delayed and which were destroyed…).
    • Rhino behind the aegis defence line moves into cover- however the6thdegree rolls a '1' thus immobilising it!!
    • Second Helldrake comes on in reserve- vector striking the stormeagle- causing hull point damage- it then shoots it from behind blowing up spectacularly- killing all but 1 scout embarked within.
    • Warpsmith repairs the damage to the Forgefiend
    • Initial Helldrakke destroys the relic Sciaran with autocannon fire
    • Forgefiend runs into cover

The6thdegree appears to rolling quite a high number of '6's' I'm thinking the dice gods are looking more favourably on the forces of chaos (T6D – they were, whilst you were at the bar, I sacrificed an annoying WFB player that was loitering around). (That would explain a lot.... LH)

     Turn 4: Ultramarines

    • Autocannon totting Dreadnaught, and Scorpious open fire on the chaos marines that have disembarked from the wrecked rhino-killing them all but 3.
    • Contemptor destroys the first Helldrake- however the beast causes a hull point damage to the dread when it crashes into its face.
    • Master of the Forge fires upon the Forgefiend again- causing another hull point damage
    • 3 remaining Sternguard take out a single obliterator (I was so surprised that the Sternguard lasted this long! LH)

    Turn 4: Iron Warriors

    • Abbadon arrives this turn with his retinue (T6D – better late than never)
    • Forgefiend kills 3 terminators and wounds Calgar (By this point I'm thinking the game is lost..LH)
    • Combined fire from the remaining Obilterator and rhinos kill the 3 sternguards
    • Scorpious is damaged initially via vector strike from the second Helldrake- then destroyed with autocannon fire
    •  4 tactical marines are killed via for from Abbadon and his Terminator retinue.

    Turn 5: Ultramarines
Assault marines move into position to charge the terminators and Abbadon
    • Tigurius Kills 2 Terminators with Smite firing
    • Contemptor opens fire on the remaining Helldrake- but fails to destroy it
    • Marines disembark from the razorback and take position to hold the objective
    • Assault marines are all killed in the combat with the terminators and Abbadon (T6D – what did you think would happen?)

    Turn 5: Iron Warriors

    • Obliterator fires upon the Contemptor with lascannon fire- which would have destroyed the dreadnought- if it wasn't for his 5+ shielding save (and miraculous rolling by Lord Halfpenny)
    • Abbadon charges into combat- challenging Tigurius and killing him before the mighty Librarian could land a blow (T6D – sissy psyker)
    • Terminators charged the Rifleman Dread- killing him in combat- with a terminator dying in the resultant blast. (this made me laugh... LH)
    • T6D – at this stage, despite the early carnage it is definitely anyone’s game…

    Turn 6: Ultramarines

    • Contemptor blasts the last Helldrake out of the sky with Kheres and Missile fire
    • Marines storm forward to claim the objective in the centre with support from Calgar
    • Abbadon is only able to remove one marine in close combat
    • Master of the Forge fails to penetrate the Forgefiend

    Turn 6: Iron Warriors
    • Iron Warriors open fire- killing 3 marines near the objective
    • Forgefiend kills the remaining 2 terminators
    • Abbadon butchers the tactical squad holding the objective
    • 2 Chaos Terminators charge into combat with the Damocles Rhino and smash it apart

     Turn 7: Ultramarines

    • Marneus Calgar leaves the tactical marines holding the objective and charge into combat with the Warpsmith and 8 Marines- killing 3 in combat, without a wound in reply- the forces of chaos fail their morale check and are destroyed by Calgar's Sweeping Advance (with both rolled a '1' for the sweeping advance!) (T6D – ok…number 1, next remember to take Icon of Vengeance with the Warpsmith squad…didn’t realise he wasn’t Fearless…and 2…remember to challenge…might have stopped the squad taking the hits…).
    • Contemptor killed the remaining 2 Chaos Terminators
    Turn 7: Iron Warriors
    • Everything opened fire on Marneus Calgar with a hope of getting a 'slay the warlord' unfortunately Calgar survived with 1 wound!! (T6D – so close!)

Final scores- Ultramarines 28- Iron Warriors 21!! A win to the Ultramarines- the Golden Daemon returns to Lord Halfpenny!!!

      Lord Halfpenny- Review

Wow- what a battle- it was a very tight battle, which after Turn 2 was looking like it would only be a matter of turns before a tabling. The6thDegree rallied in T3 and came back with to contest the game- narrowly missing out on the Win.
My favourite moment has to be the fact that the Sternguard survived to T4- sat in the Iron Warriors deployment- and they proved their worth in taking out scores of Chaos with initially melta/grav fire- then with the trusty bolter. The Knights performed well, however the battle did show that they are vulnerable if the shield is pointing in the wrong direction.
Calgar's final charge into combat and wiping the squad and Warpsmith was a joy to behold- the stuff of legends!!

      The 6th Degree- Review
Probably my best game of 40K ever – it shows how good a game it is when it swung so wildly from me facing a tabling, to me wiping out a good chunk of LordH’s key units.
I’m glad I took as much firepower as I did – I needed it! I think it might be time to retire the Havoks though – they are cheap and seem good on paper, but in practice are pretty ineffective. The Heldrakes were using Hades cannons for the first time – knowing LordH, I knew he would choose big toys over marines, so that S8 was really useful. I was impressed with the Forgefiend – if it  didn’t die in Turn 1, I knew they could be really good…shame they always tend to die so early though.
In the end, though it was a great game and LordH is deservedly takng the Golden Daemon back down south.

Ultramarines vs Relictors Battle Report - 2000pts

      $

      0
      Hi All,

With Siph being in the UK for a brief time last time he was in the country we set up a cheeky 2000 point battle to test out some of the new Space Marine Units- and for Siph to collect his Codex! But we never got round to posting until now!

The battle mission was 'purge the alien' with hammer and anvil deployment. The terrain was positioned to look like the outer defences for an abandoned city- using the walls of martyr and several 40k buildings.

My Ultramarine force included several new units that I hadn't used previously with the new codex- Tigurius- who has always been my favourite 40k character took command of my force, which also included a Scorpius Whirlwind (Forgeworld IA variant-using my old whirlwind model) and a landing pad to act as a fire base for my Contemptor and Centurions (cheesy yes, but I knew I was going to be needing a 4+invulnerable saves for the centurions..)

Siph's force included several new 'units' including 3 Devastator Centurions, Sternguard with Grav combi weapons and a squad of Scout bikers. Plus a Tac Sqd with a Grav Gun and some SM Bikes with Grav Guns. Two Vindicators formed the main guns of the army.
      Turn 1- Ultramrines
      • Drop pod arrived, deep striking into the heart of the Relictors line- with its payload of 10 sternguard- causing wounds to the tactical marines and scout bikers with venegence rounds.
      • Scorpius Whirlwind caused further casualties to the tactical squad
      Turn 1- Relictors
      •  The Tactical Squad, Grav Centurions, Scout Bikers and Marine Bikers turned on the recently arrived UM Sternguard and wiped them out to a man, pod and all.
      • Vindicators moved up to just outside the UM Centurions range ready for a turn two Barrage.
      • Relictor Sternguard podded into the rear lines of the UM army, using there Combi-Gravs, opened up on the Terminators killing 2 (Storm Shields saving the other 3 from 8 hits!) - the pod had a Locator Beacon for turn two Deep-Strike Teleporting Termies.
      • Scout squad on foot moved up the flank using Scout move and Run to get into position for their Teleport Beacon.
      Turn 2- Ultramarines
      • Contemptor moves to fire upon the sternguard, with combined fire from the tactical squad all of the Relictor veterens are wiped out
      • Terminators charge the drop pod- however are unable to destroy the pod
      • Scorpius fire kills further Tactical marines
      Turn 2 - Relictors
      • Both Assault and Terminator squads arrive via deep strike
      • Terminators open fire on the tactical squad- killing all 5 members
      • They then braced to weather the return fire from the Grav Centurions and Contemptor on the landing pad - hopefully they won't be able to see under the pad, however the scatter put me in the open.
      • Vindy's both move up into Grav Weapon range to fire and fire on the Centurions, killing two and missing Tigurius due to 'Look Out Sir'. More damage would have been done but both shots scattered 5in and 4++ saved 2 Centurions, darn Landing Pad special rules.
      Turn 3- Ultramarines
      • Combined fire from tactical squad and Tigurius wipes out the terminator squad
      • Assault marines, razorback and second tactical combat squad combined fire wipes out 4 Assault terminators- with the 5th dispatched by the assault squad in CC
      • Scorpius Relic Whirlwind fire kills another tactical marine
      • Centurions freed from the Terminator threat open fire on Vindicators- destroying one, and stunning the second
      • Assault terminators still unable to destroy drop pod in CC
          Turn 3-Relictors
          • Vindicator returns fire at centurions- but misses! They are either really effective, or as scatter has made them in this game - useless.
          • Scouts open fire on marines in the ruins- killing one
          • Centurions and contemptor move forward keeping out of range of the UM Centurions, Contemptor blows arms off UM Dreadnought.
          Turn 4- Ultramarines
          • Second Vindicator is destroyed with grav fire from centurions
          • Scorpius fires on scout biker squad, killing 2 scouts
          Turn 4-Relictors
          • Scout with missile launcher fires at Scorpius- destroying it - much to the relief of Siph!
          • Tactical marine with missile launcher fires at the razorback, again destroying the vehicle.
          • All or nothing, Relictor Centurions and Contemptor move forward towards the UM Centurions and Tigurius- their shooting killing a single UM Centurion, failed by a withering hail of ones... just my luck. Contemptor opened up n UM counterpart and failed to damage!
          Turn 5- Ultramarines
          • UM Centurions open fire under guidance from Tigurius''prescience' wiping out the Relictor counterparts
          • Tactical Marines open fire at scouts, killing one
          • UM Mortis Contemptor destroys the Relictor contemptor with combined Kheres Assault Cannon and missile fire.
          Turn 5- Relictors
          • Scout bikers move forward and open fire on centurions killing one
          • Scouts return fire- killing a tactical marine
          End of game
As the battle concluded, points were calculated- a narrow Win for Lord Halfpenny- 12-10!!
Lord Halfpenny - I really enjoyed this battle, the plan to utilise the landing pad as a fire base worked perfectly- if very cheesey- (I'm sure this would of been a perfect plan in Gulli's eyes) the centurions and the contemptor 'duel off's' were my favourite parts, It was interesting to see how Tigurius got on with the new 'rules' I had hoped to have had 'iron arm' and ploughed him into the middle, however my rolling, and re-rolling failed me to start! I also really liked, and was impresed by the Scorpius- so much so I've ordered one! (or two...)

Siph - I was surprised of the effectiveness of the 4++ save given by the Landing Pad, sneaky Lord Halfpenny. My first tactic was to land a pod on the Landing pad and shoot the Centurions with the Sternguard, however that was foiled by positioning so I opted for shooting the Termies, but Storm Shields did their work and saved the squad I targeted. The duels of the Centurions were a highlight, but much to the dissapointment of my Centurions. I could have stayed out of range and danced off, however I chose to play all or nothing - but failing. Nevermind, a very enjoyable game. Next time I'll just target the Landing Pad building itself with the Vindicators - destroying it would have saved me a lot of frustration and hit the units sheltering on it!
          Here's to the next encounter!!

Battle Report - Grey Knights and Imperial Knights vs Necrons and Relictors - 1850pts

          0
Since Siph had painted up some Necrons and Lord Halfpenny had painted up some Grey Knights, it was an ideal opportunity to get some 40K with our new miniatures and test out the rules.  They 'grey' Imperial Knights were not painted, but we decided to relax the house rule of only using painted miniatures on this occasion so Siph (to his eternal regret) could see how they perform on the battlefield...

The Mission was Emperors Will, 2 base objectives, secondary objectives were First Blood, Linebreaker and Slay the Warlord. Lord Halfpenny's Warlord was Draigo, Siph's was Imotekh the Stormlord. We decided to have an up close and personal on the Battleboard. Necrons won first turn and initiative was not seized.

          Siph's List

          Imotekh
          Destroyer Lord w/ Warscythe
          Warriors w/ Night Scythe x2
          Immortals w/ Tesla and Cryptek
          Immortals w/ Gauss
C'Tan Shard w/ Pyroshards and Entropic
          Canoptek Spyder
          Canoptek Scarabs x5 and x4
          Relictor Allied Libby w/ Kineshield
5x Tac Squad w/ Grav and Combi Grav
Mortis Contemptor w/ Kheres and Cyclone
          Pred Annihilator

          Lord Halfpenny's List

          Draigo
          Paladin Squad
          Corteaz w/ Acolyte Warriors x5
          Aegis Wall w/ Quad Gun
          Dreadknight w/ Heavy Psycannon
          Imperial Knight Errant
          Imperial Knight Palaldin
          Vindicare Assassin

As you can see from the match up, these were not ideal matches. Siph only had two answers to the Knights, the Pred and Mortis with Krak... or some luck with CC C'Tan, Destroyer Lord and Spyder. But much fun was had trying.
          Turn 1
Gauss Immortals advance towards the Knights and bring down the Assassin getting First Blood
Nightfighting in effect and Imotekh Lightning Storm struck the Knight Paladin removing 2of6 HPs
Knight Paladin in return Battlecannon's the Immortals but misses and catches Imotekh in a blast causing a wound.
Knight Errant Thermal Cannon'd the Immortals felling 4 but 2 reanimate. In CC destroys 5 Scarab Bases.
          Turn 2
Pred and Mortis Contemptor open fire on lead Knight Errant but the Ion Shield and Armour save it.
C'tan Shard CC Knight Errant stripping 2of6 HPs but is stomped on and carved up in return, failing 8 of 10 wounds.
Canoptek Spyder in CC with Knight Paladin strips 2of4 HPs but is tied in combat.
2 Night Scythe's enter play, Tesla the Paladins killing one and the other intercepted by the Quad Gun resulting in it's weapon being destroyed!
Gauss Immortals strip 2of4 HP's off Knight Errant
The Knights continue the charge, Thermal Cannon melting the Contemptor and Predator... looking grim for Necrons, and charging Immortals killing the squad outright squishing them underfoot.
The Knight Errant in CC with Canoptek Spyder squished him like the mechanical bug he was.

          Turn 3
          Imotekh Lightning Storm was ineffective.
Immortals with Tesla and Cryptek fire on Draigo and Paladins killing one Paladin and wounding Draigo.
Destroyer Lord in CC with Knight Errant tied.
Knight Paladin w/ Battle Cannon kills 2 Warriors
Quad Gun velocity locked the damaged Night Scythe
Draigo and Paladins open fire on Immortals with Storm Bolters and Psychic Powers killing one but failing the charge distance.
Knight Paladin in CC squishes the remaining Necron Warriors.
Necron Destroyer Lord glances the Night Errant 1of2 remaining HPs but just can't finish the job remaining locked in combat but is squished in the Knights turn 3.
          Turn 4
Immortals Tesla Draigo Squad and wound 1 Paladin
Imotekhs's Staff of the Destroyer (AP1) fails to reach the Paladins and with it condemns himself to the counter charge!
Both Night Scythes zoom off table to return (hopefully).
Scarabs attempt t slow down Draigo but are dashed aside.
Knight Errant Thermal Cannon'd the remaining Relictor Sqd at his feet but in the confusion scatters and strikes his own leg - stripping his remaining HP and staggered 7in and died in a Titanic Explosion! wiping out 3 marines.
Remaining Knight Paladin heavy stubbered the immortals killing one and Battlecannon'd the remaining Relictors leaving only Imotekh and a couple of Immortals to face Draigo and the Paladins in the centre...

Draigo wiped out the Imotekh and Immortals in CC, challenging the Stormlord in personal combat but in true Siph fashion, Imotekh failed two +2 saves rolling two ones tabling the Necrons in Turn 4.

          Lord Halfpenny

Wow- what a battle- it was great to try my newly finished Grey Knights (and use the 'grey plastic' Knights) - and they performed well against the Necron forces. The unit(s) of the game has to be the Imperial Knights - they simply steam-rolled through Siph's army. I was surprised how amazing they are in close combat even without using the Reaper Chainsaw - stomps were incredible - and I can't wait to see how efficient stomps could be verses hordes etc..
The moment of the game has to be when the Errant managed to kill himself with the thermal cannon blast!!

          Siph

Although the match up may not of been optimised for taking down Knights, I was going to have fun trying with the limited Necrons I had painted up. I didn't mind, I wanted to see the Knights in action - but it could of been very different if the first turn Lightning Storm caused a '6' on the damage chart and exploded the Knight whilst standing next to the other one - a titanic explosion would of taken both out ;) But alas, the knights indeed rolled over my forces - but watch out for massed gauss firepower - If I had more Warriors they could of bought them down too - the Immortals gauss fire stripped two HP's in one turn - it was a shame they were stomped for their actions :)
