Imperial Knight WIP - Magnetizing for Simple Weapon Swap between Errant / Paladin

The new Imperial Knight kit is amazing, I love it - but to choose a Knight Paladin or a Knight Errant would depend on the battle and the army you face, so with a simple application of magnets and a little trimming, you can have both options from one kit. Not that it'll mean I don't buy another two or three ;)

As you can see a few magnets in the tanks, ammo hopper, main body and both gun barrels attached with some sprue off cuts can be easily done. If you drill through a piece and insert a magnet, strengthen the magnet with some more off-cut sprue to support the glued surfaces.
Using a magnet on the gun block and the Battlecannon breech and ammo hopper I can construct the battlecannon assembly - the only sacrifice is the shell ejection port is no longer open, now filled with some internal gubbins with the hose and I removed the other power cable from the bottom of the hopper as these two cross over eachother.
The Thermal Cannon is assembled as planned but the hose assembly attached to the tanks is not glued to the main block, and is affixed to the tanks instead and removed when it is.
On the inner side next to the legs, the front shield was trimmed slightly (needs tidy up work) and the Heavy Stubber assembly used with the Battle Cannon is now just some other gubbins and not noticeable.
Whilst I was at it, Lord Halfpenny showed me a neat trick he'd done with his, so I copied - I didn't glue the waist but using another sprue off-cut means the waist is attached but still rotates allowing re-posing of the model once constructed. Genius.

GW Web Exclusive Space Marine Captains - Pics

Hi, just thought I'd share some pics as the second Web Exclusive GW Space Marine Captain has arrived. Welcome if you are just over visiting from Faeit212! If you are a power armour fan, please feel free to have a look at my Relictors :) where these Captains will end up.
The first one is only available until the 4th May when you spend over £60. I like the scabbard, all Khorne-like, but not too sure of the skull cloak, but nice all the same - and not fine(fail)cast, so mega-happy about that too. The GW plastics are looking great these days.
The second Captain, Web Exclusive 2 of 2, is £18 when you've entered the promotional code of the first Captain - This is the Plasma Pistol Captain, no Iron Halo but could easily swap out the cloak part for a normal rear torso and use as a Sternguard. The Powerfists can be used on any mini too for those worried about the cost of Fists on characters.

Enjoy.

Relictors vs Ultramarines - BatRep 2000pts - The Relic

$

Yet again the Lord Halfpenny Ultramarines were pitched against the Siph Relictors to try and claim a relic of untold power from the battlefield (the Cypher model on the Temple of Skulls below).  The two opposing forces set up Hammer and Anvil and the warlord traits were rolled, Tigurius for the UM's with Storm of Fire and Captain Blaylock caused Fear (fat lot of good with ATSKNF)...
The Relictors comprised of Capt Blaylock (FW Badab Character - Termies are Scoring), 2x Assault Termies with Landraider Godhammer and Redeemer, Relic Scorpius Whirlwind (for AP3 death), Mortis Contemptor (Kheres Ass Cannon and Typhoon ML for Skyfire), a Whirlwind Deathstorm Drop Pod, 2x 5 man Tac Sqd with Plasma Cannon and two StormTalon aircraft with Skyhammer Missiles in reserve. (12 VPs)
The UM's comprised of a FW Sicaran Battletank with Accelerator Cannons/Lascannons, Dakka Predator, Mortis Contemptor with Kheres Ass Cannon and ML for Skyfire, 5x man Tac Sqd in Ass Razorback, 6x man Assault Marine Sqd, 5x man Scout Sqd, 5 man Tac Sqd in DP, Damocles Rhino (for Orbi Bombard), 2 Laser Destroyer Rapiers, 2x Attack Bike (HB and MM), 4x 5 man Sternguard in 2 DPs (10x Grav Guns). (18VPs)
UM Turn 1 - Drop Pod Assault meant 20 Sternguard dropped into the Relictor lines, 20 Grav Gun shots where ineffective against the Landraiders, stripping a single Hull Point from the Redeemer. Sicaran, Dakka Pred and Mortis Contemptor moved forward, Scouts infiltrated and ran to the Relic Objective in the centre of the battlefield.
Here the Sternguard pour fire into the Relictor Tac Squads killing 2 marines with Vengeance Rounds and Grav glancing the Landraider. The Hellfire rounds of the Sternguard kill 3 Terminators, two with Storm Shields of Captain Blaylocks Sqd.
The two Attack Bikes zoom forward down the left flank and Rapiers take up positions in the ruins.
The Damocles Rhino uses its Comms Link to call down a Turn 1 Orbi Bombardment onto the Godhammer, but even with Ordnance double roll fails to penetrate the thick hull! Much to the relief of the Relictors.
But the Sicaran opens fire with its rending Accelerator Autocannons ripping the Redeemer apart, stripping its hull points and penetrating, wrecking the Landraider and Assault Terminator transport! The Sicaran is to be feared!
Relictor Turn 1 - The Relic Whirlwind Scorpius open fired on the Scouts claiming the Relic in the centre and wiped them out with D3+1 Blasts! The Mortis Contemptor open fired on a combat sqd of Sternguard only killing two, a Plasma Cannon wielding Tac Sqd did better, opening fire on a Sternguard Combat Squad killing 4, leaving a lone marine. The other Plasma Cannon missed. The Godhammer fired his TL Lascannons at the AV13 Sicaran but failed to even glance. The Deathstorm Drop Pod scatters but still fires and hits 5 UM units in a rain of Whirlwind fire but poor rolling see's only the Assault Marines losing 3 marines. The Assault Termies charged the Sternguard, wiping out one Combat Squad but opening up the Captain to return fire next turn.

First Turn see's the UMs with 2 VPs - Redeemer and First Blood, Relictors 2 VPs Scout Sqd and Sternguard.
UM Turn 2 - (ignore the StormTalon - I took the photo at the start of the Relictor turn) The Drop Pod UMs strike again, Meltagun and Attack bike MM kills the Godhammer, the Sicaran and Mortis Contemptor both open up on Captain Blaylock and bodyguard killing the Warlord and Termies under sheer weight of fire - 22 high strength shots! The Laser Rapiers tear through the Whirlwind Drop Pod. In assault, a Sternguard Combat sqd is defeated by the other Terminators. Unengaged Sternguard and Drop Pods kill two more Tac Marines reducing them to a single Plasma Cannon on the black ruins, 4 marines incl Plasma Cannon on grey ruins. UM now 7 VPs - gaining Godhammer, Termies, Warlord and Slay Warlord and Whirlwind Drop Pod. Relictors on 3VPs gaining Sternguard Combat Squad.
Relictor Turn 2 - The Relictor Army was looking in tatters losing its Captain, half the Termies and both Landraiders however, the Termies left still melee with the Sternguard but in a disorganised charge destroyed a Drop Pod with a Thunder Hammer, StormTalon arived, strafing the Attack Bikes, killing the MM Attack bike. The Mortis Contemptor killed 3 of the Tac Marines from the latest Drop Pod, including the Meltagun removing that threat and made the other two flee. The Scorpius fired on the Razorback but scattered onto the Predator only stripping 1 hull point. Both Plasma Cannons concentrated on the Razorback containing the remaining scoring troops and Tigurius stripping 2 hull points. Relictors now on 4VPs with the Drop Pod being destroyed. UMs remain on 7VPs.
UM Turn 3 - The HB Attack Bike opened up on the remaining Tac Marine with the Plasma Cannon killing him and wiping out the sqd, but the remaining unengaged single Sternguard open fired on the other Plasma Cannon Tac Marine with Vengeance Rounds killing himself when his weapon overheated! The Drop Pod Stormbolter also open fired on the Plasma Cannon Tac Marine hitting him twice but his armour saved him. The other Drop Pod and Predator snap shot at the StormTalon missing. The remaining 3 Assault Marines charged the Termies locked in combat with the Sternguard, killing one Termie but the Terminators fought back killing the Sternguard Sqd and 2 Assault Marines leaving one. UMs now on 8VPs with the Tac Sqd, Relictors now on 6VPs with the misfired Sternguard and the close combat Sternguard.
Relictor Turn 3 - Plasma Cannon opens fire on the rear armour of the Razorback again, but bounces off.  The 2nd StormTalon arrives from reserve and strafed the remaining Attack Bike killing it. The Mortis Contemptor spies the 2 remaining Tac Marines making a run for the relic in the centre and cut them down with its Kheres Assault Cannons! The Scorpius Whirlwind destroyed the Razorback holding Tigurius and the 5x man Tac Sqd in the centre. In assault, the Thunderhammer Termies wipe out the Assault Marines.
The Relictor Termies hunker down behind the Drop Pod after dispatching the final Assault Marine, sheltering from the combined fire of the Sicaran, Mortis Contemptor and Dakka Pred. Who said war has to be glorious! UMs 8VPsRelictors now ahead on 10VPs with the Razorback, Assault Marines, Attack bike and Tac Combat Squad.
UM Turn 4 - The Contemptor Skyfires it's missiles at the StormTalon in the centre, glancing it stripping a hull point but the flyer remained out of range for the Assault Cannons. The Sicaran opens fire on the Relic Whirlwind in the rear of the Relictor lines, but is saved by the surrounding ruins and wreck of the Landraider.
The UM Laser Destroyer Rapiers snap fire at the other Relictor StormTalon, needing sixes to hit, both roll a six and the Laser Destroyers punch through the doomed flyer! UMs now on 9VPs, Relictors remain 10VPs.
Relictor Turn 4 - The Drop Pod on the left flank is torn apart in a salvo of fire from the Contemptor giving up another VP, the StormTalon zooms off the board to avoid the Turn 5 guns of the Ultramarines. Relictors now 11VPs, UMs remain 9VPs.
UM Turn 5 - Contemptor and Predator both open fire on the exposed Plasma Cannon Tac Marine, tearing him apart, leaving 3 marines hunkered down behind the building. The Tac Sqd in the centre run toward the Relic in the middle. VPs remain UM 9VPs, Relictors 11VPs.
Relictor Turn 5 - The StormTalon returns to strafe the Tac Marines in the centre killing 4, leaving a lone scoring marine in grasp of the Relic if there is a sixth turn? The Scorpius Whirlwind opened up on the now exposed Rapier Laser Battery, killing two guns and three crew, leaving a lone crew member to evade a VP. Mortis Contemptor open fired on the remaining Drop Pod with its ML, but both missed! My remaining Termies and Tac Squad ingloriously hunkered down behind the building in cover to try to deny two easy VPs. We roll for a sixth turn and there is one! Can the dwindling Relictors hold out? VPs remain UM 9VPs, Relictors 11VPs.
UM Turn 6 - Much to the dismay of the Relictors, the Predator and Mortis Contemptor downs the StormTalon, glancing it to death. The Sicaran opened up on the Relic Whirlwind again, however the thick frontal armour saved it. UMs now 10VPs with the downed StormTalon, Relictors 11VPs.
Relictor Turn 6 - The Mortis Contemptor moved up to fire all its guns at the lone Marine on the hill by the relic, 12 Kheres Assault Cannon shots and 2 Krak Missiles fail to take the marine in cover after he goes to ground. However, the Relic Scorpius Whirlwind concentrates its firepower on the same marine tearing him apart in AP3 goodness! Relictors now 12VPs with that Tac Combat Sqd. UMs 10VPs. We roll for a seventh turn but to my relief we don't get one.
Endgame

Finally a Siph Relictor Victory and the end to a year of defeats, I didn't win in 2013, 2014 is better already! A hard fought 12VPs win over the UMs 10VPs.

Siph - Well, that was an awesome teeth gnashing, butt clenching battle to the end. Only won by the amount of VPs on hand for the taking. The Relictors played the mission, taking out any UMs that tried to claim the relic and concentrating on taking out the troops when more juicy targets were available, however were out gunned by the UMs from turn two after losing their Landraiders, half the Termies and their Warlord! I plugged away at the UMs taking 12 of the possible 18VPs, meaning Lord H had to wipe me out or gain the Secondary mission VPs of which he took Slay Warlord and First Blood, narrowly missing out on Linebreaker as no denial Units were in my Deployment zone, however 2 vehicles were. I really felt the teeth of the new Sicaran Battletank, those Accelerator Cannons with rate of fire and Rending tore through my Landraider! But my Relic Whirlwind Scorpius fought back with equal tenacity taking out Scouts, Rapiers, Marines and a Razorback, and the final marine grabbing the Relic when the 14-shot Mortis Contemptor failed! We have also looked at the rules for shooting artillery, we should have applied wounds against the guns under the Blast and removed them first, rolling for feedback explosion so I may of gained a lucky result there, however the wreck of the landraider in the centre should also have been removed as it exploded, that would of made me move the Scorpius earlier in game and may have been more exposed to the Sicaran guns later.

Lord H -Indeed, this was a battle of epic proportions- there were laughs, tears and a lot of cursing. (Normally Siph aimed at the dice gods...) After turn 2 I thought I was in a commanding position, having reduced the Relictors army quite considerably with combined Sternguard/Sicaran/Predator/Contemptor fire- however Siph fought back (and hid.. lol) with the talons and Scorpius taking its toll on my force.
My mistake(s) were that I split my Sternguard into combat squads, giving Siph 6 easy VP's for the taking, I hoped that the grav weapons would have popped the land raider then I could have killed the terminators inside with the other grav weapons- in hindsight I should of used the Sicaran/Contemptor to destroy the tank first, then grav'ed the terminators to death as they disembarked.. My other real mistake was giving Siph easy targets, perhaps I should have kept my razorback, scouts, tactical squad and assault marines within my deployment zone, out of the range of the Scorpius- however I went for the relic for the win. It would of been a pretty boring battle if we had both sat back in our respective deployment zones!
Another note is how me and Siph seem to be very much in tune with each other with regards our forces- I had looked at a Dark Angels force lead by Belial with scoring terminators- very similar to the force Siph used..
My unit of the  battle has to be the Sicaran battle tank, it obliterated everything it fired at- and my thoughts are towards having a squad of 3 of them!

Thanks for reading, and i hope you enjoyed our battle report..

Battle Report - Ultramarines and Imperial Knight Vs Necrons - 2000pts

Siph and Lord Halfpenny got together for the first battle between us on Siph's new Games Table and to test out the Necrons that Siph had been building and painting over the last month. The Battle was the Scouring, 6 random objectives (2x 2pt, 2x 3pt, 1x 1pt and 1x 4pt) with Vanguard Strike diagonal deployment. The forces were Necrons Vs Ultramarines and an Imperial Knight.

Necron Force
Imotekh Stormlord
2x 5 Warriors w/ 1x Night Scythe
1x 10 Warriors with Cryptek
2x 5 Immortals (Gauss/Tesla)
5x Canoptek Scarabs
Doom Scythe
Monolith
Canoptek Spyder
C'Tan Shard
3x Acanthrites (lovely FW Model IA12 rules)

Marine Force
Imperial Knight Paladin
Tyberos the Red Wake (makes LC Termie's Scoring) from IA book
2x 5 Assault Termies (LC and TH/SS)
1x 5 Tac Marine w/ Flakk Missile
10x Sternguard w/ Combi Melta/Grav in DropPod
Hunter
Mortis Contemptor w/ Kheres Assault Cannons and Missile
Whirlwind
Whirlwind Sorpious
HB Attack Bike
The Necrons deployed up to the line with Acanthrites on flank (jump troops). Imotekh and Tesla Immortals in rear corner on 4pt Objective (lucky for me-Siph) and Gauss Immortals on stone tower ruins. Warriors in Mechanicum ruins with 2pt Objective. Monolith opposite Knight on other flank. Doom and Night Scythe in reserve. The Warlord trait was rolled from Fall of Orpheus IA12 and was an additional VP if Warlord survives.
Marines set up as above, Knight in forefront opposite the Monolith, with Termies and Tyberos. Whirlwinds and Hunter in rear with Tac Marines in Shrine of Aquila on 1pt objective (unlucky for me! - LH). Sternguard DP in reserve for first turn DP Assault. Lord Halfpenny failed to seize the initiative. Marine Warlord Trait gives Furious Charge in enemy deployment zone.
The remaining objectives were next to the red Power Generators (3pt) in Marine deployment zone (soon to be claimed by LC Termies), in centre by Wrecked Landraider (3pt) and in far top right ruins (2pt). The marines started with the disadvantage of having the 1pt objective and only 2 troop choices (Tac Marines and LC Termies) giving a big challenge for Lord Halfpenny - all out destruction of the Necrons was the order of the day. Remembering that this was for testing out Necrons, otherwise a more wise 3 or 4 troop choices would be more advisable.

Necron Turn 1 (above)
The Necron forces advancing to get into Gauss range, Acanthrites with their sights on the Power Generators and Termies, Monolith on the Knight and Imotekh bracing for the inevitable arrival of the Sternguard DP on his 4pt Objective! Shooting starts with Imotekh's Lightning Storm but fails to do any damage, striking the Contemptor once but failing to glance. The large Warrior Sqd open fire on the Knight trying to get a lucky glance and succeeding and the Cryptek with Eldrich Lance fails. The Spyder opens up on LC Termies with Particle Beamer hitting two but the armour saves them. The C'tan failed to hit the Knight and the Monolith Particle Whips the LC Termies killing one and destroying the Whirlwind too achieving First Blood! The Destroyers Gauss Cannon the Knight also getting one glance leaving the Knight on 4HPs.

Ultramarines Turn 1
The Sternguard arrive at the 4pt Objective, Combi-Melta and Grav the Immortals and Imotekh but only taking down 2 Immortals permanently. The Imperial Knight charges forward hitting the C'Tan with Heavy Stubber fire but failing to wound. The Scorpious Whirlwind opens fire on 10x man Warrior squad taking out 2 and a Cryptek, Mortis Contemptor opens fire striking the Spyder 12 times ripping the construct apart! The Knight reaches the Monolith and C'Tan Shard, destroying the Monolith with it's D-Wpn but stomp attack on C'Tan is saved.

Necron Turn 2
Imotekh opens fire with the Lightning Storm again claiming one LC Termie, one Sternguard and failing to kill a Tac Marine. The Doom Scythe and Night Scythe open fire on their main threat of the Hunter, ripping it apart with Tesla Destructors. The Tesla Immortals and Imotekh fire on the Sternguard killing 3 and the Scarabs swarm over the Sternguard to prevent them firing next turn but failed to kill any of the Veterans. The Acanthrites surged over the 3pt Objective claimed by the LC Termies felling two with Heat Rays and ripping the remaining marine with Voidblades, reducing the marines troop choices to just the Tac Marines in the Shrine ruins. The C'Tan and Knight continue to battle stripping 2 HPs and the C'Tan 1 wound (although subsequently - we now re-read the rules and C'Tan don't get their 4++ from D-wpns so would have been reduced to 1 wound). The Warriors and Destroyers all open fire on Contemptor and achieve 2 glances reducing him to 1HP.
Ultramarine Turn 2
In response, the Contemptor opens up on the Doom Scythe, ripping it apart with Skyfire. The TH/SS Termies and Tyberos advance in the centre. The HB Atack bike and Scorpious Whirlwind open fire on the advancing Acanthrites taking a wound. The Flakk marine missed the Night Scythe. The DP misses the Immortals and the Sternguard wipe out the Scarabs. The C'Tan shard continues to battle and takes another wound (should have died).
Necron Turn 3
Imotekh has no more Lightning Storms, the Acanthrites take out the HB Attack Bike, The Night Scythe and Destoyers strip the Scorpious to atoms destroying it. The two Warrior squads in the centre glance the Contemptor to death. The large Warrior Squad advance on the Landraider objective but fire at the Sternguard along with Imotekh and Immortals killing two veterans reducing them to 4 Sternguard. In CC the Sternguard face off with the Imotekh and Immortals but the combat is tied. The C'Tan defeats the Knight but is killed at the same time (although Knight should have still been threatening!)
Ultramarines Turn 3
The Sternguard continue the fight with Imotekh but remain locked in combat. The Flakk Marine misses again. TH/SS Termies move to intercept the Destroyers threatening the remaining Tac Sqd and Capt Tyberos advances towards the Wrecked Landraider Warrior Sqd.
Necron Turn 4
The Gauss Immortals charge into the Sternguard to aid the Necron Warlord and secure the 4pt Objective, striking two marines down. The Warrior sqd seeing Tyberos advancing score 13 Gauss shots and the Night Scythe 7 Tesla hits but fail to kill the Captain, wounding him twice leaving him on 1 wound. The Acanthrites charge the Termies killing one TH/SS but are wiped out in return, leaving 4 TH/SS marines. The Destroyers and Warrior sqd from the Night Scythe whittle down the Tac Marines to 2 and make them flee the objective.
Ultramarine Turn 4
The Tac Marines auto rally and fire at the Warriors, missing again! Capt Tyberos enraged charges the Necrons at the wrecked landraider, sure to rip them apart but tragically is struck by overwatch fire and is slain, giving the Necrons Slay the Warlord. The TH/SS Termies steam into the Necron Warriors. The Sternguard are finally bought down by the Immortals and Imotekh.
Necron Turn 5
The Immortals and Imotekh and Night Scythe destroy the Drop Pod, in CC the Destroyers charge the Termies and take down 1 TH/SS.

Ultramarine Turn 5
The Tac Marine with missile launcher strikes the Night Scythe once but fails to glance. One more TH/SS Termies goes down under the weight of Destroyers and Warriors.
In Turn Six, the Destroyers and TH/SS Termie fail to do any damage. The Marines run to regain the 1pt Objective. We rolled for another turn, but alas, the Termie will live on.
End game - the Imotekh survives and gains an additional 1VP. Necrons have 14VPs - First Blood, Slay Warlord, Warlord Survived and 11 Objective VPs. The Marines gain moral victory as not tabled and 1 VP.
Siph Comments
So, what a victory for the Necrons, but as the rules regarding Invulnerable saves and D-Wpns were not known properly, it would be unfair to say the result was valid, although it did seem quite one sided regarding claiming objectives with only two marine options and 6 Necron ones. And Knights easily glance to death... in future another Flyer and some Annihilation Barges with twin-linked Tesla Destructors (St 7) and Gauss fire (glance on 6) will combat the dominance of Imperial Knights. Nothing in the arsenal can stand up in CC with a D-Wpn! I should also remember that every Warrior Squad could have a Cryptek with some anti tank weapons with only 25pts a piece. Options for the future indeed.  Imotekh is expensive but normally proves his worth with Lightning Storm attacks, but not this game and I forgot the Staff of the Destroyer with its short range AP1 weapon - normally shot and fails to reach its target but this time at point blank range I forgot he had it. I was right to attack the threat to my flyers when they came on, getting rid of the Contemptor and Hunter ensured their staying power. And I must say, being struck down by Overwatch whilst charging was no way for a glorious hero of the Imperium to die, but funny all the same!! So the Weeman Trophy can stay at Lord Halfpenny's until I return from sea again for a re-match with new Necron goodies I've constructed and I'll post whilst I am away.

Lord Halfpenny Closing Comments
An interesting battle that's for sure. My list for this battle had been slightly tailored to what Siph wanted to face his necron force, thus I included several tanks- which I probabily wouldn't have if this wasn't designed to test Siph's new Necron force.
I was really surprised on the staying power of the Sternguards - again hanging in until T4 was pretty good going. The Knight did ok in smashing the Monolith, in the first turn- whether the Knight should of killed the C'tan again in combat wouldn't really of mattered as I'm pretty sure Siph would have focused all the next round of shooting to glance him to death.I can definitely see the benefit of running 2 knights as a pair- in support of each other- this would then allow the rest of the force to advance whilst the knights take all the punishment from the oppositions shooting. Tyberos was unfortunate to die the way he did - overwatch fire is a pain- If he'd have gotten into combat I'm pretty sure he would have made short work of the Necron warriors.
I did take a few bits from the battle- and hopefully I can exploit these in future battles..

Weemen is getting a whole lot bigger... the final post..

For the last few weeks I've been running posts on 'Weemen getting larger' here is the final post.

As you may have guessed the model in question is a 3 foot 2, Warlord- purchased from a well known auction site- The Warlord is one of a kind, made by the guys at bluewarpstudios As you can see he is pretty big! however it fits my view of a warlord as a kid when I started the hobby- it also feels the right size having played Space Marine on the Xbox, where the captain jumps onto the warlord to fire the volcano cannon.

I'll post more pictures in the coming weeks- but here is a couple of pictures to wet your appetite!

This Shadowsword looks epic in proportions..

Necron Canoptek Scarab Swarm

Hello kind readers, a simple paint job multiplied by 95 can give a good looking result... here is my latest offering for the ever growing Necron Army. A great swarm of Canoptek Scarabs! 16 bases of them, all that lovely armour and tank eating goodness.
I didn't like the fact that a swarm of Canoptek Scarabs is often referred to as a 'swarm' yet the bases are all too often barren with 3 or 4 Scarabs at the most... well, I have 6 per base and I think the result is a much better look.
I opted to paint only a few Scarabs per base in the blue accent colour of my Army and overall it saved a lot of time and effort and the result IMHO is better than if I'd painted every one blue. I love the overal effect of the simple scheme with the glowing gauss energy eye in the contrasting red.
These will be truly frightening to come up against if I had some tanks like a Sicaran or Landraider Achilles for instance, but so far their only outing was against 2 Imperial Knights and because of their size, the 'Invincible Behemoth' special rule means they were immune to Entropic Strike :(
Never fear (they are Fearless) they will have their day... unless I have painted enough Fast Attack slot Wraiths and they they might not get a look in!

For a while there has been rumours about the potential for a 7th Edition of 40k, I've had it confirmed today that indeed GW are stopping the purchase of the 'rule book' however the Dark Vengeance is still available- apparently there will be further news in coming in White Dwarf in the coming weeks, as well as the website.. May apparently could be an interesting month...

Terrain and Scenery - Games Table - Dedicated Weeman Room

Hello avid readers, I thought I'd post some shots of my new games table - constructed from the modular furniture that I use to store my Weemen. The top is made from a bed frame and slats and the surface hardboard sheets and a Gaming Mat from Terrain Maps. Above you can see my entire Relictors Battle Company - hmm, maybe I should take a photo with them all out...
Fricken awesome huh? It is 4.5ft by 6.25ft (ahem... double bed sized) so great sized for 40K. Apoc will be a little squeeze but I reckon it will be possible. As it is made from 4 cupboards, there is plenty of hidden storage underneath for all of the to-do pile and carry cases.  It's also fitted with lights to display the weemen, however I fear leaving them on would perhaps melt them - so I'm not taking any chances, it can be on to show people but then they get turned off!
Where the cupboards used to stand I put the work bench next to the window for plenty of south facing light (and three lamps). Guests can sleep on a blow up matress - weemen come first, lol.

Battle Report - Necrons Vs Relictors 1000pts - Re-Match

$

So my gorgeous GF and I had a re-match of the first game, this time I was playing Relictors and it was 3 Objectives, diagonal deployment, 1000pts each with the Relictors gaining first turn and the Necrons failing to seize the initiative. The Necrons had an objective at the door of the Shrine of the Aquila, the Relictors one in the Round Tower ocupied by the Scouts w/ Bolters and the final objective lay in the centre in a Quake Cannon crater.

Relictors Force comprised of a Chaplain with Jump-pack and 5 man Assault Squad with Powerfist, 2 5-man Tac Sqd with Plasma and Grav/Combi Grav. 2 5-man Scout Sqd with Bolters/Hvy Bolter and Sniper Rifles/Missile Launcher. Rifleman Dread, Dakka Pred, Stormtalon with Heavy Bolter, Stalker and Razorback with Assault cannon.

Necrons Force comprised of Imotekh, 4x 5-man Necron Warrior Squads with 2x Night Scythes. Canoptek Spyder w/ Particle Beamer, Destroyer Lord w/ Warscythe, 3x Scarab Bases and 3x Acanthrites.
Relictor Turn 1
The Relictors started the offensive striking a Necron Warrior Squad with the dakka Pred, Scout Missile Launcher, Scout Heavy Bolter and Rifleman Dread determined to get First Blood and wiping them out. A Canoptek Scarab base was also destroyed and another wounded.
Necron Turn 1
Imotekh opened with his Lightning Storm striking the Dreadnought 6 times and the Scout Sniper Sqd 5 times and the Stalker once. The Dread lost one of his weapon arms and 2HPs and 3 Scouts died. The Stalker survived. Imotekh's Warrior Squad advanced and fired at the same scouts, but the building saved them from harm. The Spyder advanced and Particle Beamer shot hit two Scouts - slaying one leaving the Scout Sniper Sqd to one Scout with the Heavy Bolter - but he held his nerve. The rest of the Necron Legion slowly closed the distance.
Relictor Turn 2
Dakka Pred open fired on the Scarab Bases wounding another base, the Plasma Tac Squad fired at the Necron Sqd advancing into the middle objective and took down one warrior. The Scout Missile Launcher, Heavy Bolter and Grav Tac Squad concentrated fire on the Destroyer Lord but only took one wound. The Stormtalon arrived from reserve and stripped two wounds from the Canoptek Spyder. Assault Cannon Razorback fired at the Acanthrites but failed to wound the mosquito-like constructs. The Dreadnought sensing victory in the middle used his higher initiative to strike the Destroyer Lord but fluffed his attacks, being slain by the Lord's Warscythe!
Necron Turn 2
The Warriors in the middle advanced toward the objective firing at the Grav Tac Sqd in the Mechanicum building but failed to find their targets, the Acanthrites and Canoptek Spyder fired into the Assault Squad and Chaplain before charging - wiping the squad out with Melta and Particle Beams before finishing off the Chaplain in CC with rending voidblade stings. The Chaplain could only dent the high toughness constructs - giving Necrons Slay the Warlord. A Night Scythe came in from reserve and wiped out the remaining Heavy Bolter Scout with massed Tesla Destructor fire scoring 5 hits (6's give two additional hits!)
Relictor Turn 3
The Stormtalon, Razorback, Plasma Tac Sqd and Missile Scouts all targetted the Acanthrites taking one out and wounding another, but their high toughness, multiple wounds and 3+ save meant they were very much still a threat. The Stalker penetrated the Night Scythe twice and glanced once taking the flyer out.
Necron Turn 3
Imotekh's lightning storm struck the Scout Sqd holding the objective 6 times killing two, and the Razorback once but failed to glance. The Warriors in the centre fire at the Scouts also but fail to do any damage. The 2nd Night Scythe zooms on the board and Tesla Destructs the Stalker stripping 2 HP's and destroying one of the Icarus Stormcannon arrays halving its firepower shaking it. Both Warrior Sqds with Imotekh fire massed Gauss Flayers at the Stormtalon striking twice but failing to glance.
The Acanthrites at point blank range fire their Melta Lances at the Razorback but both miss, and the Canoptek Spyder  and Destroyer Lord charge the Grav Squad killing 3 but remain in combat.

Relictors Turn 4
The Plasma Sqd over by the ruined Landraider fire at the Scarabs approaching the Pred, killing one base and leaving a single base on two wounds. The Dakka Pred and Assault cannon Razorback finishes off another Acanthrite leaving one on one wound. The Scouts Missile the centre objective Warriors killing one Warrior. The Stormtalon weaves through the air in a dogfight with the Night Scythe scoring 3 rear armour hits but failed to glance. In CC the remaining Grav Tac Sqd fail to damage the Lord and Spyder and are both ripped asunder.
Necron Turn 4
The Warrior Squad in the centre maintain their hold on the objective whilst the Scarabs advance on the Predator stripping its AV values by 4 each side, the Destroyer Lord moved towards the Scouts and the marine objective whist the Acanthrite and Canoptek Spyder assault the Razorback destroying it in a fireball that takes the final wound from the Spyder. The Night Scythe rips the Stalker apart with Tesla Destructors.
Relictors Turn 5
All was to play for, if the Warriors in the centre could be dislodged it could be a draw. The Predator forgetting this priority opened up on the Destroyer Lord for an easy kill and toprevent him assaulting the Scouts on the objective but he made all his saves! Determined to get a kill and safeguarding the Scouts, the Plasma Tac Sqd fire at the Destroyer Lord finally killing him with Plasma fire. The Stormtalon opens up on the Night Scythe stripping it of its remaining HP's and it crashes into the desert floor.

Necron Turn 5
The Scarabs strip the AV values on the Pred b another 2 leaving the Pred vunerable but operational, the Imotekh Warriors and Acanthrite close the Scouts to try to kill them but only taking one scout leaving two scouts standing firm.
All is to play for if there is a final turn 6 - the Pred and Tac Sqd will kill the Necrons on the Objective in the centre and the Scouts will hunker down in the ruins but alas, the die is cast and a two is rolled - no turn 6, as it stands - Relictors hold one Objective and First Blood. The Necrons hold two objectives and Slay the Warlord. 2:3 a Necron Win and another great battle on the new Games Table!

Battle Report - Relictors Vs Necrons 1000pts

With the installation of my new Games Table, I was graciously asked by the GF if I wanted a cheeky inaugural battle on the table to break it in. I leapt at the chance, and got two forces together. The Necrons consisted of Imotekh, 2x Warriors with Night Scythe, 2x Immortals, Canoptek Spyder, 5x Canoptek Scarabs and a Destroyer Lord w/ Warscythe.

So with a little tutoring we had a 1000pt battle - Necrons vs Relictors, Relic, 3VPs for relic, secondary objectives Slay Warlord, Linebreaker and First Blood. Necrons won first turn. The scenario lent itself to an epic struggle in the ruins of the Chapel of the Aquila ruins in the centre of the board.
The Relictors set up opposite the cathedral ruins containing the Relic. They comprised of a Captain, 4x Tac Squads with Missle / Plasma Gun / Melta Gun and Flamer, Stalker, Dreadnought with DCCW and Lascannon.

Turn 1
The Necrons advanced accross the board, Imotekh opened up with the Lightning Storm striking the Dreadnought 6 times! and the Stalker 5 times! Great start, the lightning torn through the Dread killing him outright claiming First Blood and destroying one of the Icarus Stormcannon's and shaking the crew. The Canoptek Spyder opened fire on the Captain's Tac Sqd with the Particle Beamer but failed to penetrate the marines power armour.

The marines opened their turn with missile and bolter fire from the Mechanicum building toward the Scarabs removing a base. The meltagun armed Tac Sqd opened up on the Gauss Immortals slaying one only to see it reanimate at the end of turn. In the centre the Terminators advanced past the wreckage of the Dread gunning down a Tesla Immortal but the assault cannon went wild missing them. The Captains Tac Sqd opened fire on the Canoptek Spyder trying to bring it down with weight of fire but failed. The Plasma Gun armed Tac Sqd in the chequered ruins opened fire on the Canoptek Spyder but also missed. The Whirlwind faired better striking the Spyder indirectly taking a wound.

Turn 2
The Destroyer Lord moved up the flank towards the Whirlwind, along with the Scarabs. One Night Scythe arrived from reserve, gunning at the Missle Tac Sqd felling one marine and the Gauss Immortals also felled one marine leaving that Tac Sqd 3 members. Imotekhs Lightning storm was less effective this turn not striking any Relictor units. The Tesla Immortals in the centre opened up on the Terminators striking them 6 times but not penetrating the Tactical Dreadnought Armour. The Canoptek Spyder continued his advance toward the chequered ruins and Stalker but missed with his Particle Beamer.

The Relictors answered the Necron advance with heavy fire - striking the Destroyer Lord with missile fire and bolter fire but failed to wound his toughened exo-skeleton. The Whirlwind opened fire on the Scarabs sheltering behind the Oil Storage Tanks but scattered wide. The Melta Tac Sqd fired the meltaguns and combi-melta at the Gauss Immortals killing one. The Captains Tac Sqd and Terminators open up with massed fire striking the Tesla Immortals 20 times and destroyed them outright. The Stalker opened fire on the Night Scythe penetrating once but the living metal shook off the result.
Turn 3
The Necron Warriors used the wormhole from the Night Scythe to disembark and along with the Gauss Immortals struck the Melta Tac Sqd killing two. The Night Scythe zoomed over the Terminators concentrating Tesla fire on the Captains Tac Sqd but even with extra Tesla shots failed to penetrate power armour. The Canoptek Spyder opened up on the Plasmagun Tac Sqd hitting two with his Particle Beamer but failed to wound before charging into CC - killing 3 and narrowly avoiding the Sergeant's Powerfist and then ran the rest of the squad down as they failed their morale check. The Destroyer Lord ripped open the Whirlwind with ease using his Warscythe.

The 3 Marines in the Mechanicum Building opened fire on the Necron Warriors but failed to take down any of the warriors. The Melta Tac Sqd opened fire on the Destroyer Lord in their rear lines and failed to wound the construct. The Terminators seeing the Canoptek Spyder heading toward the Stalker opened fire on the bug, ripping him apart with rending Assault Cannon fire.
The Stalker open fired on the Night Scythe ripping it apart and sending the flaming wreckage down to fall amongst the Terminators killing one. In the centre, the Captain's Tac Sqd advanced into reach of the Relic in turn 4.
Turn 4
In the rear of the Relictor flank, the 2nd Night Scythe enters the board and strikes down one Melta marine. Necron Warriors gauss stripped the Melta Sqd further to one marine. The Destroyer Lord charged into the surviving members of the Missile Tac Sqd scything two in half easily leaving one remaining marine whilst the scarabs prepare to surround the remaining Melta marine. In the centre, the Gauss Immortals open fire on the Terminators killing one.
The remaining Melta Sqd marine opens fire on the Scarabs wounding one base and the Stalker see's a fleeting glimpse of the Night Scythe through the Cathedral ruins and strikes it 3 times but fails to glance. In the Mechanicum ruins, the Destroyer Lord easily scythes the remaining Missile Marine.
Turn 5
In the centre the Night Scythe wormhole unloads his Warrior cargo to prevent the Marines claiming the Relic - warriors shooting the Captain Tac Sqd tono effect but the Immortals enter the Cathedral and shoot up the same, killing one marine. Imotekh fires his Staff of the Destroyer but again falls short. The other Warrior Squad outside the Cathedral ruins open up on the Stalker trying for a lucky glance but failing. In combat the final Relictor on the flank is stripped to atoms by the Scarabs, the Destroyed Lord advances unimpeded towards the Stalker.
The Relictors claim the Relic in the centre and all open fire on the disembarked Warrior Squad, wiping them out. The Stalker again open fired on the Night Scythe striking it twice but failed again to glance (needing four's but failing again).

We roll for a turn 6 - as it is the Relictors would win if the game ends now - claiming the Relic (3VPs) against the Necrons Linebreaker and First Blood (2VPs). But, the game continues for a 6th.
Turn 6
All the action centres in the Cathedral, the Immortals and Imotekh fire on the Tac Sqd claiming the Relic and charge them slaying two marines. The Warriors move to get Linebreaker and open fire on the Captain hitting him 8 times with Gauss fire but the saves were all made.  Elsewhere, the Destroyer Lord charges the Stalker cleaving it in half and survived the ensuing explosion.
In the Relictor turn 6, the Terminators and Captain charge into combat with Imotekh and the three remaining Immortals but in a flurry of fluffed dice one Immortal and Imotekh survive the onslaught striking down the marine holding the relic.

At the end of turn 6 we roll to see if the game ends - as it stands the Relic has been dropped and all units are in CC so it is lost. The Necron's would win on Linebreaker and First Blood. The dice is cast and the game ends - a Necron Victory.
After thoughts - After a great first turn with Imotekh's Lightning Storm he was pretty ineffective but worth his high points cost! Six hits on the Dread and 5 on the Stalker halving the Stalker guns and killing the ancient machine, glanced to death - not a glorious end for a Chapter hero. Again his Staff of the Destroyer fell short - 2D6 range below 6in again. Turn 5 was a marine win, however it went to a sixth and the Necrons won. In the seventh it would of swung back to the marines favour with the inevitable loss of Imotekh - but alas it was not to be - Necron's won!

Necron Canoptek Spyder

This is my latest offering in my now growing Necron Army. A heavy support choice, a Canoptek Spyder. These are fairly cheap, come in groups of up to three and can be fitted with a variety of options although the only one worth it in my eyes is the TL Particle Beamer to give this monstrous creature some ranged firepower.
I love this model, I can't help making insect noises when I look at it. I am getting fonder of my colour scheme too. I think it works well on this model, hopefully the other Necron vehicles will look as good too. I definitely like the contrasting red gauss energy now too.  The bronze head is a nod to the Canoptek Guardians on the external surface of the Obelisk and works well with the blue.
The greatest strength of these Spyders is running them with Canoptek Scarabs, the armour and vehicle eaters, which when partnered with these Spyders will last longer and grow in numbers each turn.
It is nice to paint something that is not Relictor Grey, but I still have around 2000pts of Necrons in the to-do pile!

Necron Night Scythe #2

Howdy readers, here is my latest offering, another Night Scythe for my growing Necron force.  I have used the same colours as before, a nice Necron Abyss blue with reddish Gauss energy and my oily looking metals with Platemetal Army Painter spray washed with Nuln Oil and Devlan Mud..
I wanted the base to be a feature for this new flyer, rather than a big expanse of nothing - so using some spares from the Obelisk kit, I made it look like part of the Necron Tomb world or a vehicle was rising above the surface from beneath the plains.
The only variation from the first Night Scythe was the tips of the croissant were painted blue, an easy way of differentiating between the two craft. The next one will probably have a few more panels blue, whilst I think the Doom Scythe I'll eventually do will be completely blue.
I do love the lookof these flyers, they look more dangerous than they actually are! They do look cool when they enter the battlefield, and at only 100pts I may get a few more yet.
And to prove it is not just a re-post! ;)

Chaos Daemons- Fateweaver

Hi All,

A quick post to start the week - here we have 'Fateweaver'. The moment I started my daemon force I knew I needed Fateweaver- the rules for him in 5th Edition were amazing with re-rolls galore and with lots of options available for causing lots of pain and suffering to your opponents force. With the new Daemons 6th Edition codex he has been slightly nerfed.
I've used a mainly 'blue' scheme with highlights up on the wings to show the feathery appearance. The staff I painted to fit in with my khrone 'flame' swords with the staff having a yellow/orange/red glow to it.
My favourite 'in battle moment' with Fateweaver has to be either the time he battled with 6thdegree's Swarmlord in close combat with a ridiculous number of re-rerolls or the time at BlogWars, in which he turned the game in one turn by turning a Tyranid Tervigon into a chaos spawn.
I hope you like.

Forgeworld Necron Acanthrites - Fast Attack

These are the latest addition to the now growing Necron army, these are a great addition, a Fast Attack choice, Heavy Infantry and Tank killers and jump troops too.  The have a high toughness and multiple wounds so are survivable too.
The construct is based on an insect body, perhaps a Mosquito, but the GF thinks they are 'prawns', lol.
They are armed with a short range Heat Ray, a melta gun basically and when they close in for combat they have multiple attacks and Voidblades, so Rending Power weapons with Entropic Strike. Nasty.  The only downside is the Necron low initiative so they have to survive the first round of combat, which the high toughness, MEQ WS and multiple wounds help do.
A great looking addition to my forces, great minis from Forgeworld, went together like a dream and rightly feared by expensive Terminators and Tanks alike. Can't wait to blood their Voidblades!

Necron Annihilation Barge

Here is the latest offering for the now growing Necron Legion I have. Some very much needed firepower in the form of a Necron Annihilation Barge. Twin-linked Tesla Destructors and a 2 shot AP3 Gauss Cannon or 2 shot Tesla Cannon.
I've always loved Annihilation Barges since being on the receiving end of three at BlogWars owned by Sons of Sanguinius Venerable Brother. When you hit with a six, you gain two additional hits - with a re-roll TL gives you plenty of chances to hit at St 7. So the possibilities to glance AV12/13 Imperial Knights to death becomes a reality with a couple of these and some Night Scythes.
Quantum Shielding keeps them around for a while, acting as AV13 until Glanced which is great as I am sure these will be prime targets with there primary weapon being so destructive to troops and lighter vehicles. I chose a Gauss Cannon for the secondary armament as it can also glance on a 6 being Gauss.
This won't be the last one of these, a couple more in the pipeline!

Terrain and Scenery - Quake Cannon Craters

Hello avid readers, I am away again earning the cash to buy more weemen. This is scheduled to pop up so the blog lives on! To complement the new Games Table, I purchased some terrain, the new-ish GW Quake Cannon Craters. They are much better detailed and of sturdier plastic than the vacuum formed moonscape craters previously released.
As they are two part and four designs, you can make 4 unique craters. I glued with plastic cement and once dry, strengthened with liquid greenstuff into the join. I painted the details of dead guardsmen to match my long forgotten squad of guardsmen. Great kit - I recommend it, and make 2014 your year for doing something about that grey plastic scenery - it is so much better battling over cool painted stuff. Scenery is quick, you don't have to be precise and drybrushing is king!

Necron Destroyer - Final Colour Scheme Development!

So, with the Necron Warriors gauss energy red in colour, I had to re-paint the Necron Destroyer I painted as a test example literally years ago. The main colours for my ever growing Necron Army is obviously metallics as every Necron player knows, but also another colour - dark blue, with a Bronze accent colour and the gauss reddish energy.
It has taken a number of iterations to finally settle on a colour scheme I liked. Here are the previous incarnations, firstly black carapace with blue energy. This was the first attempt, I liked the black but it was missing something.
Next I tried a blue, aptly named Necron Abyss, and it worked well with the gold transfers but I wasn't overly happy with the gauss blue energy. I didn't want the over used Green energy, especially the plain green plastic rods - they look lego-like. I wanted painted effects so I experimented with a few colours before settling with a nice red blend to orange with yellow lightning flecks.
So now, with the red energy and the blue carapace I was worried it would clash too much but I like it and somehow it works I reckon. So there it is, the development of my Necron colour scheme. Now I am happy with it, I reckon the progress will speed up - can't wait to get these guys on the battlefield and battle Lord Halfpenny and 6thDegree with something other than Relictor Marines.

Thanks for reading.

Necron Immortals - Getting your monies worth, doubling the squads!

Anyone with Necrons will probably have too many Warriors laying about and some of the plastic Immortal kits with plenty of leftover parts. Lots of leftovers, I have only just begun my Necron advance and yet the bits box is pretty big already.
This conversion uses parts from the Immortal kit and the Warriors, I made my Immortals using the instructions and armed them with Tesla Carbines, but this left oodles of spares and the Deathmark rear torso's and Gauss Blasters as juicy leftovers... so using the legs, front torso and head from the Warrior and the rear Deathmark torso, arm and weapon from the Immortal leftovers, I constructed a fairly convincing new squad of Immortals.
I am yet to fill the joins with liquid green stuff, but both share the larger shoulder blades and bulked up profile over the thinner warrior's frame. The only thing missing is the distinctive wire leading to the gun - I may later construct some using guitar wire, but for now it will be left off. The Gauss Flayer is not plugged in, so neither are my Gauss Blasters.
Hope this gives you some ideas to use up the spare kits you may have laying around.

Terrain and Scenery - Skull Watchtower Firing Platform

Another update whilst away at sea. This quick and easy terrain piece was made from a resin skull-faced pen holder pot and some Cities of Death floors. I mounted on 3mm Hardboard, sanded the edges and voila.
Ideal for mounting a Heavy Weapons Squad to give a commanding view of the battlefield. The rusty metal effect was a simple Chaos Black spray followed by drybrushing Macharius Orange and Boltgun Metal. Done. Simple and effective. I've used this effect before on Terrain like my Manufactorium Building or the Wrecked Landraider so this should fit right in. The base is Calthan Brown, drybrushed with Kommando Khaki and Bleached Bone.
For more Weeman terrain ideas please feel free to click here.

Go on, make this year the year you actually paint some of that grey plastic terrain!!
