Deathwatch Space Marine Conversions WIP

Hi one and all- thanks stopping on by!

I just thought I'd do a quick post prior to the release of the new Deathwatch game- images of my Deathwatch I started ages ago- but not finished yet. I wanted to add a touch of character to my marines, thus I add various icons, chest plates, shoulder pads, heads to make them appear more like their 'home' chapter.

There are 10 'Sternguard' marines, from a selection of chapters, a Librarian plus 5 Vanguards with jump packs.
The plan to complete these is to re-base them onto the bigger bases, and highlight them up- potentially in line with the guide in the recent WD. Currently they are in a early stage, where I was trying to work out a scheme and a look, I am looking at maybe painting the armour in a more metallic black- rather than a matt black scheme - more to come!
Hopefully these guys will be finished soon and I'll post the results!

Terrain and Scenery - Statue of the Emperor (or suitable Hero)

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in. Here is my latest piece of Terrain, I just can't stop doing terrain as it is quick and easy. This is a statue of the mightiest hero of the Imperium, the Emperor himself, or a suitable Hero...
I had the piece lying around now for 5-10yrs from a third party sculptor, marketed as a Mighty Hero of Humanity or something, clearly based on the Adrian Smith colour artwork of the Emperor but who knows. I was a gift back then and no I don't have any or have the details of the supplier - please don't ask. I don't really approve of third party re-casts or ripping off IP, however this was a gap in the market and not directly harming GW so I like it. (The gap still exists for an Emperor Model!! Come on Horus Heresy, make an Emperor and a fallen Horus - I want to make that diorama of the final confrontation on the battle barge above Terra, but the black and white version - Horus with two Lightning Claws and looking Daemonic!)

The far superior FW casts of the Primarchs make this kind of miniature old hat as the Primarch models are way bigger - this is about the same size of a mere marine - I have used a plastic Sternguard head as the supplied one was too elf like. I liked the regal patriarch features on this head but it lacks the depicted Emperor's long hair - hence it might be a mighty hero of the Imperium, the details are lost in the eons of history...
So what to do with an under-scaled Emperor-like mini... well, Terrain of course! I painted the mini my usual gold, Gehennas Gold, washed Agrax Earthshade, layered Gehennas Gold, highlighted Runefang Steel.  The column he is atop is a cake decoration tier for a wedding cake, made of plaster and cut with a Razor Saw.
I painted the plinth to match the Shrine of the Aquila terrain I have, and I am sure when he is used in battles it will be a worthy objective in the centre of the building! The main colour is Zandri Dust, washed again with Agrax Earthshade and highlighted Ushabti Bone. The plinth itself is simply some Cities of Death Terrain.
I added various Oaths of Moment, purity seals and parchments left by devout worshipers of the Imperial Creed. And washed the gold itself with 'Ardcoat Gloss to make it shine. The ground base is usual Calthan Brown, drybrushed Kommando Khaki and Ushabti Bone.
He is the Statue in the centre of the Shrine of the Aquila. A worthy height to him in a big building.
Hope you like. Please feel free to browse my other Terrain type posts HERE. Hopefully someone will get inspired to put effort into their gaming tables - it really does enhance the games! And scenery doesnt have to be more than a quick spray basecoat, wash and drybrush to bring it alive!

Thanks for dropping in. Cheers, Siph.

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by. Here is my latest additions to my humble Mechanicus forces, and the last of my Blogger Buddy Mordian7th's painted units I got from him awhile ago. I now have a significant force I can add to, perhaps a few new units to bring them up to a full 1850pts force.
I love the Sydonian Dragoon lancers, but I think to be effective on the battlefield I will need at least one more. And a Onager Dunecrawler is a must to benefit from their cumulative Invul save bonuses. And defo more Kastellen Robots... 'cos they are huge Robots!!
All I did to these was alter these bases to match my own armies, so all credit due to Mordian7th. Thanks for dropping in and having a read. The rest of my Mechanicus Forces can be found HERE.

Mechanicus and Skitarii Vs Grey Knights and Assassins - 40K Batrep 2000pts

Welcome Readers, not a comprehensive Battle Report as we were having too much fun battling and taking a few pictures to record the narrative in detail, soz, but plenty of pictures were taken to share and a precis of happenings was remembranced... it was a Maelstrom of Battle with Tactical Objective cards and good use of the BlogWars Objective markers from Alex at From The Fang blog.

Draigo and the Knights of Titan plus some Imperium Assassin Operatives were dispatched to the Mechanicus World of Dach II to stop research into cybernetic AI deemed heretical by the Imperium.
The Skitarii Ongar Dunecrawler started the hostilities as its defensive protocols were activated by the advancing Grey Knight Terminators, a shot of the Neutron Laser on target made easy work of the squad killing all but one Terminator. The Dreadknight shunted into the back lines of the Mechanicus and targetted the Datasmith of two Kastellan robots.
A second squad of Grey Knight Terminators and Librarian Gate of Infinity phased right into the path of two Kastellan Robots and Fulgrite Techno Priests. Fresh from its first turn sucess the Dunecrawler targetted the second squad, and combined with the firepower of a squad of Torsion Cannon wielding Kataphron Breachers tore the squad asunder.
The Skitarii Rangers were caught in a crossfire of Eversor Assassin, Dreadknight and a squad of Grey Knights wiping them out, but not until the Rangers had taken down the Eversor! with a lot of help from two Sydonian Dragoons. The Skitarii Ruststalkers got the measure of a Callidus Assassin using their Transonic Blades and Chordclaw, then over a few rounds of combat took out the Culexus too.
The Grey Knights and Dreadknight continued to cause concern in the back corner.
The centre was dominated by the Dunecrawler, Breachers and the shooty Kastellan robots.
On the right flank the fist Kastellans faced up to Draigo and his squad of Paladins who had failed to cast Gate of Infinity to get into the action elsewhere. The Force activated bolt and Psycannon rounds made short work of the robots. However this opened them up to return fire from Torsion Cannons and the Dunecrawler - torsion cannons being outstanding and taking a few Paladins out. The Vindicare Assassin finally found his mark taking out the Dunecrawler in response for targetting Draigo.
Draigo Gate of Infinity shunted to the opposite flank to claim an objective and easily cut down the remaining Ruststalkers and resisted the firepower of three Kastellans.
In turn five, the massed firepower of Torsion Cannons ripped apart the venerable Dreadnought who had not done much, failing to hit with his twin linked Lascannon and taking a hull point off the Dunecrawler but failed to snipe the Tech Priest Dominus.

Final result 11 vs 3 VPs to the Mechanicus Force, research to the Cybernetic AI will continue - at least until Draigo orders Exterminatus from orbit!

Relictors Space Marine Bike Squad - re-armed for Anti-Tank role

Hi Readers, thanks for dropping by. Today I would like to show you a little update from my original bike squad first posted HERE in 2012. I have considered their role on the battlefield and since I used the metal bikers torsos, I had one Meltagun and one Plasma Gun. I have now subbed out the plasma gun trooper and re-armed the Sergeant who used to have a Power Sword.
Now the squad have 2x Meltagun and a Combi-Melta, more specialised for the anti-tank role I see them having. I used the Meltagun from the Sternguard plastics and the combi-melta is from Forge World. The marine with the Meltagun on the hip is the original metal torso.
Finally a shot of all three special weapons, I may field just the three if the points are tight, but the normal pistol armed marines act as ablative wounds so will still see the table top. I have many more bike squads in the WIP stage for some of that Grav/Combi-Grav goodness.

Cheers for reading and visiting our humble corner of the blogosphere.

Relictors Space Marine Bike Squad with Plasma Guns

Welcome Readers, Thanks for dropping in.  Here is my latest addition to the Relictors Battle Company. Hot on the exhausts of the Melta Bike Squad, here is the re-appropriated Plasma Gunner from the original bike squad with his gun on his hip.
Along with the metal Plasma Gunner torso is another Plasma Gunner torso from the Dark Vengeance 40K set, slightly converted/re-posed to sit on a normal straight wheeled space marine bike. I had to cut at the wrist and a few adjustments to the waist to fit on a normal set of space marine biker legs. Also the Ravenwing icons from his back pack, Shoulder Pauldron and helmet were removed with a sharp knife and hobby file.
The Sergeant is another of the Dark Vengeance bikes, but with the bolt pistol replaced with a Combi-Plasma from Forge World. I am using the three fancy Dark Vengeance feathered fairing bikes as my Sergeants in two other squads yet to come, this matches the original Bike Squad Sergeant whose fairing was from the Space Marine Chaplain on a bike set. So this way, all my Sergeants have fancy gold fairings whilst the troops have basic looking bikes - functional. I had to remove the Ravenwing icons from the front wheel, Helmet, Shoulder Pauldron and Bolter casings too.
The rear totem feathers were simply painted Hawk Turquoise with Nuln Oil wash and a fine dry brush again with Hawk Turquoise to bring the edges back to a brighter colour. Notice, I always drill by exhausts as well as Bolter barrels for a touch of realism.
There you have them, another fine squad of Bikers for my Battle Company. Thanks for dropping by, hope you like. Cheers, Siph.

GW 30th Anniversary Space Marine and LE2 Rogue Trader Original

Hello Readers, so I saw the above from BoLs (originally peeked Barnstable Slayers FB page) and want to share what it is based on. Soon it will be the 30th Anniversary of the humble Space Marine. I have an Original LE2 Imperial Marine, note not a Space Marine, that prefix change came later!
Here is the ORIGINAL (Space) Marine from all those years ago, I have the original Hexagon Base too, plus an LE1 which was a Space Ork with double barreled Shoota. He was also later released in 1991 as Space Marine with Bolter 5, seen here on Stuff of Legends website.
As you can see, GW has stayed true to the Original but updated and up-scaled it to the 32mm base and modern Marine sizes. Good stuff, I will definitely be getting one!

Hope you liked this trip down memory lane.

Adeptus Mechanicus Skitarii Onager Dunecrawler w/ Icarus Array

Welcome Readers, thanks for stopping by in our humble corner of the blogosphere. This is my latest addition to the glorious Ad Mech forces I purchased from Mordian7th, so now the job of adding my own painting skills to match his and more importantly match the existing forces so they appear as one cohesive force together. I think I did quite well in those regards.
I matched the red as best I could using a blend of Gore Red and Blood Red and also matched the golds and blues of the cables seen in the first Onager Dunecrawler, I also copied the white stripe on the front from the schemes seen in GW.
I added the foot spreading plates to differ it from the first, also more importantly I armed it with the fearsome Icarus Array for some much needed Anti-Air and equally capable of taking out Marines or light vehicles too.
I really enjoyed painting this miniature, it is very different from the recent Relictors Space Marine bikes. And the kit was a great kit to make, really good with lots of subtle differences and choices of gubbins and aerials.
The base was decorated with spare bits from a Tau Stormsurge cannon and Frag Launcher. Its a big base and otherwise would look too plain without something breaking up the expanse.
I think the Icarus Array looks awesome from the front. A Gatling Rocket Launcher (Hvy 5, S6, AP4) as well as Daedalus Missile Launcher (S7, AP2) plus the twin-linked Autocannon (Hvy 2, S7, AP4) all with Skyfire and the Autocannon has Interceptor which can be used to intercept and the rest of the array can target something else in the subsequent Shooting phase.
I also added a Cognis Heavy Stubber for more Dakka Dakka! Its cheap and I know how annoying those extra pew pew can be, Imperial Knights have often taken a few extra Marines during a battle.
And here is the family group shot with the first Onager Dunecrawler with Neutron Laser. So that is now a 5++ with the Field Harmonics from the combined Emanatus Force Fields instead of the single model's 6++.

Titan Base, Bikes, Veterans and Tau Stealth Suits - WIP - Hobby Butterfly

Hi, I suffer Hobby Butterfly Syndrome... from my New Year, New Army post in January I kind of got distracted with Warlord Titan building, updating Ad Mech and now Relictors bikes - but I made some progress... honest.
I really painted up the drone to see what scheme I should use with them, and happy to continue with the scheme, the rest of the squad (plus another two other squads and the Ghostkeel) should get underway after I have finished some more Relictor bikes and paid the Warlord some more attention. But I will get there... honest.
Here is my Dachshund helping me do some of the Relictor Bikes, some of which were finished Melta Squad and Plasma Squad. I still have a number of bikes on the desk WIP...
A shot of the desk, working on Captain Mordaci Blaylock and Sternguard, two Veterans for the long awaited Command Squad, all from the Betrayal at Calth miniatures and some Boarding Shields from FW. Also Grav Bikes and Stealth Suits and a Skitarii Vanguard to test the scheme.
I also did a little carpentry making the base for the Warlord Titan construction...

Does anyone else suffer from HBS... Hobby Butterfly Syndrome?   ;)

Adeptus Mechanicus Skitarii Vanguard Test Scheme - WIP

Hi all, my hobby butterfly won't settle. So I've been working on a test scheme for my Skitarii Vanguard. I wanted the palette to be darker and broodier than the Rangers I have so far. The rest of the force has a Mars Forgeworld scheme, this one is more like Agripinaa or Lucius with the dark overcoat but the red helmet and lining signifies Mars and helps link it to the others.
As before, to match the Rangers and Mordian7th fine work, I have kept the power cables blue and shoulder armour plates golden. But I have used more Leadbelcher/Boltgun Metal on these, I'm yet to add squad marking as I may not settle on Black coats. Let me know what you think, cheers.
And if you don't know Vanguard, they are the rad-troopers of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the foot slogging soldiers who are armed with the Rad poisoned Radium Carbines (3 shot S3 AP5, each 6 to-wound counts as 2 wounds) or have the ability for 3 troops per squad to be armed with the Plasma Caliver (3 shot Plasma Gun S7 AP2) so each squad can put out a lot of short ranged hurt (18"). Or Arc Rifles (haywire) and Transauranic Arquebus' for Armourbane fun.
The trouble is the box only comes with one of each - so Ebay prices for these special weapons are at a premium... I want 2 squads each with three Plasma Calivers... that will be 30 shots from each squad each turn, 9x S7 AP2 and 21x S3 AP5. That should upset Termies even with Storm Shields!

Let me know what you thinkof this scheme. Too dark? Red Overcoat? Or keep as is. Cheers.

Hi all, a super quick post to finish off the last post really, here is the requested comparison test scheme for the Vanguard against the already completed Skitarii Rangers Squad.
Both have Red, Gold and Tan elements, the main difference is the Vanguard have more Leadbelcher and have Black Overcoats with a red lining. Both share the bright Blue power cables.
Col H, hopefully that helps the comparison, side by side... something I should perhaps have done in the first place...  more new content up Monday with some more Relictors goodies, flutter that hobby butterfly...

Relictors Space Marine Command Squad Veterans w/ Storm Shields

Hello, here is the latest addition to the Relictors Battle Company (plus extensive arsenal... see HERE). I have finally added to the lonely Apothecary from the Command Squad completed back in 2011, with the addition of two Veterans armed with Grav Guns and to keep them around a little longer, proxy Storm Shields - I love the Forge World Breacher Siege Squad miniatures so had to include them somewhere, so what better opportunity than to represent two Veterans with Storm Shields.
Here you can see the Grav Guns, the same scheme as my 4th Company Tactical Squad, and soon to have 3 Grav Bike Squads too...
The Power Pack is from two of the Limited Edition Sergeant with Bolter and Power Fist from a few years back, I think it is great at marking out these two as Command Squad Veterans.
I used a studded Pauldron and the other Pauldrons from the Betrayal at Calth box set, also the legs and torso too. the heads are from the FW Breacher Squad as they have Optics which link to the Optics in the Breacher (Storm) Shield.
Here is the Command Squad so far, so only two Miniatures until the Battle Company is 'officially' complete, although it never really will be will it ;)

Thanks for dropping by, cheers, Siph.

Imperial Space Marine 2016 - 30th Anniversary Miniature and LE2 Comparison

Hello Readers, and if you are enjoying a Bank Holiday like here in the UK, have a nice one! Thanks for dropping in to take a look. Here is my version of the Games Workshop Imperial Space Marine 30th Anniversary miniature, painted to match my Relictors Chapter marines.
I really enjoyed this model, the design cleverly hides most of the joins and mold lines and the piece has lots of nods to the Original Imperial Marine as you can see below in the comparison shots with LE2 (or later Bolter Number 5).
I painted the gloss shoulder pauldrons as usual, but really like the up turned vents on the Power Pack, like the original. There are so many modern details based on the original, the little triangle indicator on the front facing of the power pack, the holes on the thigh, the boots - obviously, the knife and the leather pouches, and of course the disintegration combi-weapon design, pipes and details.
I painted the casing of the weapons to match the accent colour of my Battle Company, otherwise a grey and black scheme can be in danger of looking too moody - which is why some of my Assault Marines are dark and moody.
Here is a series of comparison shots, but firstly, a shot of LE1 Space Orc (not Ork.. that came later), LE2 Imperial Marine (not Space Marine, that also came later) and Imperial Space Marine 2016. Enjoy.
Thanks for dropping in. Cheers, Siph.

Relictors Space Marine Bike Squad w/ Grav Guns

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by. Here is my latest addition to the Relictors huge force, a handy Grav Weapon armed Bike Squad, these will complement the Melta Gun armed squad and the Plasma Gun armed squad.
Here are the three special weapon armed bikes, the Grav Guns on the Marines and a Combi-Grav for the Sergeant.
The Sergeant was made using a Ravenwing fairing, and Ravenwing legs, a MK VIII torso and a landspeeder pilot bare head. The aerial is from the Scout Bikes.
I think the Sergeant bikes with Fairings make them stand out from the rest of the squad members, deserving of his veteran status. I have a few other bikes on the production line, another couple of Grav Gun Squads and a few Characters, Libby, Chaplain and Captain/Chapter Master on a jet bike. With these characters, the squads can become Troop choices.

Cheers for dropping in, thanks for reading. See you at Warhammerfest if you are going!

Hello Readers and hello any bloggers who attended Warhammerfest in Coventry Ricoh Stadium this weekend. It was a great weekend with lots to see and on Sunday the Weemen headed to Nottingham for a massive 4200pt Imperial Knights Vs CSM/SM battle at Warhammer World.
We took a few phots but there are plenty of bloggers we know do a better job than us, so please head to Recalcitrant Daze and Battle Bunnies for their great reviews and some pics from Sons of Sotha Blog (nee Scythesoftheemperor link) who took along his own Weeman!

More great shots of this amazing board here:

Some great Staff collections in the Cabinets. I particularly liked these Carcharadons and the Scout helmets especially. Great work. More cabinet shots here:

http://battlebunnies.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/the-cabinets-at-warhammer-fest-2016.html

And a really great cosplay take on actual 7-8ft tall Marines and some decent Guardsmen and a DKK. Well done, clearly a lot of work had been put into these.

We enjoyed the day, it was a lot smaller and less hectic than Gamesday, certainly less to see, but more pleasurable and less hassle. Thumbs up from the Weemen, we even managed to bag a table in the Bring and Battle area and had a 3 vs 3 vs 3 Imperial Knights battle which was quick, brutal and can now see why Renegades has more detailed rules for Knight on Knight... I won both games in the 2nd turn! 8 Knights down, only one remained each battle! Great fun.

Weemen at Warhammer World - Battle Pictures of x10 Imperial Knights Vs CSM/SM 4200pts

The Weemen traveled to Warhammer World after Saturday at Warhammerfest for a day of battling. The forces were drawn up from 6thDegree's Iron Warriors, Siph's Relictors, who would be aiding the Forces of Chaos today for their own mysterious means, and Lord Halfpenny's significant force of Imperial Knights and Cerastus Knights.

The battle was rolled for, Short edge deployment and a long foot slog... and three objectives. 20VPs for the enemy Objective, 5VPs for Own, 10VPs for the centre Shrine of Aquila Objective. Slay Warlord 1 VP, the Allied Forces had 2VPs on offer.

The allied Chaos and SM forces created a battle line - hoping to grab nearby cover and await the coming tide of Knights. The Bikes lined up for a show of force before scattering for cover once the full extent of the Knights force arrayed against them was realised.

On a side note - playing on a 12ft table meant that even Lascannons had issues with range, so most of the allied firepower sat unused for several turns. But the main gun of the Shadowsword had a range of 180in - the aim was to slow the advance to gain more shots - a Skyhammer Annihilation Force should provide a meaty distraction to slow them down.

##### Lord - We have received a vox from our home world sir... its, its.... #####

### The battle centered on the Knightly House home world, the household had recently been dispatched on campaign for the Imperium. On returning from campaign they detected the fleet of Iron Warriors in orbit...

An Iron Warrior force had been dispatched by Perturabo to the planet in retaliation following Chaos defeat at the hand of these Knights during the campaign, with the intention of destroying the feudal population on the planet. The Relictors had picked up the planetary distress vox and moved to combat the forces of Chaos, however it was on their arrival that their Librarians picked up the Warp resonance indicating a powerful relic weapon within the Primaris Hive. The Relictors adapted their mission - claim the weapon, no matter the cost, even forging an uneasy alliance with the Warpsmith to achieve the aim.

The household arrived in the system to a scene of devastation, the world destroyed by the forces of Chaos. There was something else though.. The daemon sword the Relictors claimed for themselves had been locked away, stored deep within the Hive vaults, the removal of which had released a power that surged through the planetary crust and caused massive tectonic upheaval. The Knights tactical displays indicated that both the forces of Chaos and the Relictors were still on the planet, they marched to war - no matter who they would come up against, they would eradicate them both for the atrocities committed to their planet ###
The massive line of Knights advanced to the starting line for maximum reach.
Perturabo lent the use of his personal Shadowsword for the protection of the allies Objective. And to hopefully one-shot a few of those pesky Knights with a giant gun... The Warpsmith in the same ruins would bolster the cover and provide regeneration of HPs if needed.
The Skyhammer Annihilation Force drop podded perfectly behind enemy lines with 2 squads of Assault marines, no scattering and armed with Grav Cannons or Multimeltas would make the Knights pay!
The Grav Cannons ripped into one of the anti-air armed Knights, removing 5HPs, the final one being taken in combat by the Assault Sergeant. The Allied Chaos force primary objective was to remove the anti-air threat in preparation of the multiple flyers arrival.
In response, the Knights turned to face the Skyhammer Annihilation Force, trying to neutralise the threat in their back lines, but the massed firepower cleared out most of the squads but two Assault Sergeants and two MM armed troops plus a lone Grav Cannon remained.
90pts worth of meat-shield sit in ruins and wait their turn to chip the paint of any nearby Knights with their trusty Autopistols and Knives.
The Relic Sicaran Battletank did well on the flank with its Accelerator Autocannons and Lascannons, stripping HPs, easily getting its points tally before succumbing to Thermal Cannon fire in the second turn.
At the end of Turn 1, one Knight had fallen and another was locked in combat with a lone Assault Marine Sergeant for an eventual 3 combat turns before being stomped... what a SM Hero!
Here he is battling it out with his trusty Powerfist, dodging the D-Strength Reaper Chainsword and Stomp attacks!
Three Obliterators beam in the rear of the Knights ranks to worry Lord Halfpenny.
By Turn 3, on the Knights right flank, they finally get back to the starting line to continue the advance after dealing with the Annihilation Force diversion. Three Knights had fallen and the flyers had started to appear, Ion Shield placement will become more difficult as the enemy position on more than one front.
The Cerastus Archeron battles it out with the Obliterators.
Knight Gerantius destroys the Relictor Bikers in the ruins with ease.
The allied flyers entered the battlefield unleashing a barrage of missiles into the closest Knights.
That pesky green Knight managed to save an outstanding number of shots (including D) with its Ion Shield...
Turn 3 and a third Knight was wrecked and another locked in combat again...7 left!
The Archeron Knight survived the flurry of Powerfist attacks and stomped the Obliterators into the ground. Squish!
The flyers now brought their primary weapons into range of the scouting Knights and managed to strip a HP or two - although a lucky snapshot from a Knight succeeded in destroying one of the Fire Raptors weapon batteries.
The Shadowsword took aim at the Knights advancing warlord - eager to bring D strength combat to the allied forces...the shot hit the Knight Lancer Warlord squarely in the torso, causing it to instantly explode on the spot, leaving nothing but a crater. High in orbit on his battle-barge, Perturabo smiled. 1VP secured.
This success was swiftly followed up with the Xiphon strafing the victorious Archeron next to the Shrine of the Aquila, hitting him in the rear armoured Flame Cannon fuel tanks, destroying the Cerastus Knight in a huge fireball!
Turn 4 and all of the allied flyers were now on the board causing havoc unchecked after the Knights with skyfire weapons had been systematically targeted and destroyed in previous turns.
The allied lines thus far remained intact but depleted by the Knight's advance - but this was soon to change as Gerantius reached the entrenchments.
Gerantius advanced into the Allied units, systematically shrugging off massed firepower with his improved Ion saves and tearing bikes asunder!
The Relictor ground forces were heavily depleted, however down but not out, the airforce continued to reap a heavy toll!
The Xiphon Interceptor sighted its next target, the distant Cerastus Castigator Knight.
And with supersonic speed closed in for the kill, stripping more HPs but failing to add another Cerastus Knight to his tally!
A trio of flyers ganged up on the Knight tasked with holding their Objective, quickly pulling it down as it's Ion Shield failed to block shots from every angle. The lack of anti-air Knights was beginning to show.
The meat-shields left the safety of their ruins to seek glory in combat against the giant Gerantius (and to tie him up in combat for long enough to shoot it with the Shadowsword).
The Stormtalons hovered over the Knights Objective (without any Knights noticing), claiming the enemy objective in the Turn 6 whilst the Iron Warrior flyers went in hunt of more prey.
Realising its Objective was being claimed by the allied forces, a sole Cerastus Knight ran back 3D6 to contest it...stopping inches short... needing 12in to get within 3in and rolled 11in... meaning the hovering units secured 20VPs. As the Iron Warrior flyers pincered another Knight from different angles, the venerable tank turned its Lascannons and removed its final HPs from its unprotected side.
Battered and bruised (and squashed to a fine paste) the meat-shields managed to hold up Gerantius for long enough for the Shadowsword to get into firing position, take a careful aim at the mighty Knight's reactors and unleashed an unblockable shot, removing the Knight from the battlefield and leaving only a smoking crater, felling the ancient Freeblade.
The final tally was a heavy one for both sides, but the Knights claimed the middle Objective for 10VPs, the Allied Chaos forces the enemy Objective for 20VPs and home Objective for 5VPs securing the victory for the forces of darkness... Perturabo claimed this World, the Relictors teleported a cargo pod to their waiting Strike Cruiser and dispersed from the battlefield, their mysterious alliance complete.

The few surviving knights rallied, and boarded their transports to leave the dying planet for the last time, the planets crust starting to break away, ripping itself from the core... The Lord of the household looked around for a final time, the mountains and sea that he had viewed first as a child had gone, the sea was a bubbling fire, the mountains had fallen away into the planet, the population slaughtered... the household was gone, it was at that moment the Lord made a vow, the Noble House was no more, and that they had a single mission - to destroy those responsible for the death of their world.

### We Freeblades will not forget this heresy Iron Warriors or this betrayal Relictors, vengeance will be served! ###

Stormhawk Conversion Opportunities - which one to do?

$

Hi readers, I am looking for some input in what to do with the Stormhawk. The first pic shows the original kit configuration.
To make the flyer look different from the Stormtalon's and more like an interceptor, an easy snip of the lower wing and this could be the result, a more streamlined shape, but generally keeps the similar rear wing like the StormTalon.
Or a re-positioning of the lower tail fin to become the upper rear fin and the cross piece on the underside like a traditional jet. This requires a little more conversion and the rearward chaff launcher will launch chaff into the path of the tain fin, but what a tail - not streamlined as others, but a bold statement and similar to modern aeroplanes.

Or cut the bottom fin off completely and just use the cross piece on the underside leaving a shorter tail piece. The tain fins will then echo the shape of the front wings, the rear fin just needs a little sanding to remove the location lug. This adds a streamlined shape with the traditional jet look.

So, which to do? Suggestions please? -

1. Use as the kit comes.
2. Remove Lower Fin.
3. Add Lower Fin to top and re-position rear wings to the underside.
4. Remove Lower Fin and re-postion rear wings to the underside. My current favourite.

Well, after all the excitement of Warhammerfest and Warhammer World, where the WeeMen had a great time on Saturday and Warhammer World on the Sunday, see previous posts, I loved the way my bikes were giving Lord Halfpenny's TEN Knights the run around, if not being a little ineffective - but choose your enemies wisely and bikes are great. Hot on the heels of my full five man Grav Gun Bike Squad, I finished off another three bikes to make another Grav Gun Squad. I will eventually add another two plain bikers, as ablative wounds for the squad, but I am yet to buy them.
The Sergeant was made from a Dark Vengeance bike like the Plasma Gun Squad and the fairings match the other squads Sergeants. I like making the veteran Sergeants look different from the other bikes. The Sergeant also has a Forge World Destroyer Squad helmet to mark him out as a Veteran. The left-handed Grav Gun required a minor conversion but removing the affixed hand and adding a left hand from the Devastators box set and an arm from the bits box.
The rear totem feathers were simply painted Hawk Turquoise with Nuln Oil wash and a fine dry brush again with Hawk Turquoise to bring the edges back to a brighter colour, quite similar to Dave Weston's Ravenwing Bikes at 40K Addict Blog. I always drill by exhausts as well as Bolter barrels for a touch of realism. For the Ravenwing Bike, I used a plain bikers torso and a Combi-Grav from the Sternguard set.

Thanks for dropping in. Cheers, Siph.

Magnetizing the Space Marine Stormhawk Interceptor - WIP

So, with options for the tail fin still open to change, I needed a way to interchange the Icarus Storm Cannon (longer range 3 shot medium strength) or the Las Talon (short ranged 2 shot Lascannon) depending on the foe. I looked at the kit and this was very simple to achieve. Simple placement of magnets in the nose cannon location and in the separate weapon mounts (thanks GW for a great interchangeable option). See pic above.

More progress very soon, this one jumped to the top of the to-do pile as I love it!

Relictors Space Marine Stormhawk Interceptor

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by to have a look-see. Here is my latest offering, a lovely StormHawk Interceptor flyer for the ever growing Relictors Battle Company. In the above shot, armed with an array of weapons - TL Assault Cannons, 3-shot Skyhammer Missiles and a short range 2-shot LasTalon lascannon. Brutal. The new flyer rules give Interceptors give -1 BS against surface targets, I will probably play this way without all the other flyer shenanigans - who will actually want another 'Flyer' phase, it's long enough with the separate 'Psychic' phase.
As you can see, after debating what to do with the tail fin, I weighed up the different options, thanks for your input guys, and decided to go with the under-wing at the rear, to differentiate from the StormTalon tailfin and cut away the large fin section with hung downwards. The top tail fin option was too 'helicopter gunship' like the StormTalon, I wanted a more 'Jetfighter' aesthetic - okay this kit will never be a Xiphon Interceptor!
As you can see in these two pictures, the loss of the downward tail section makes for a much more streamlined Interceptor, I've also as previously posted, magnetized the Icarus Storm Cannon and the Las Talon nose guns.  Incidentally, the horse was from my original box of skeleton warriors from back in the late 80's I found randomly in the closet of doom! Now put to good use.
Here you can see the look I was going for, much better in my humble opinion, more streamlined and faster looking.
From the rear you can see the 'Aliens Dropship Vibe' I was going for, and without the large under-fin attached to the top section, the Halo chaff launcher is free to fire and give me those re-rollable jink saves :)
Here is the magnetized Las Talon nose cannon, it fits into the mount seamlessly.
And for a slightly different profile, both aesthetics and stats, here is the Icarus Storm Cannon. Depends if you want lower strength, 3-shot long range or the double tap short range lascannon option.
A slightly different nose profile with this option. I used yellow for the Skyhammer Missiles, I think a great long range, mid power missile load out, I think is great for anti-air! Across my entire force, the missiles are painted yellow to really pop.
Above you can see the different brutal nose cannon options and silhouette - these things certainly don't rely on aerodynamics to fly! All of about 3 inches of actual wing surface to provide any sort of lift ha ha. (I also went for port and starboard red/green navigation lights at the end of the wings - for those times it is not ramming itself in the faces of the enemy!)
And finally, a rear shot showing the Halo chaff launcher and what your enemies will see - as they crash and burn, the fast disappearing shape of their nemesis...

Overall, I loved this kit, and without a cockpit to worry about, painting was fairly simple and quick. I just removed the jet nozzles and exhausts, nose cannons, missiles, all the sensor lenses and engine intakes, and was then able to spray and wash and drybrush the entire model grey, before adding the details back once the entire superstructure was complete.

Thanks for reading. Cheers, Siph.
