Relictors Space Marine 4th Company Devastators Squad w/ Grav Cannons

Hello Good Readers, hope you are well. Here is my latest offering, I got these Devastators with Grav Cannons and Grav Amps ready for the massive battle we had at Warhammer World a few weeks ago, with the exception of a few details and the heads, so hot on their success in Imperial Knight slaying, I finished them.
The Sergeant received his Combi-Grav, so with the Grav Cannons and Grav Amps for re-roll, this squad puts out 23 grav shots if stationary (or Relentless in an Skyhammer Annihilation Force) with a damage re-roll of 20 of those for getting those glancing Sixes! Almost guaranteed to kill a Landraider or Termie Squad - but at a cost point premium, this squad costs more than those said targets when fully kitted out. But, in that Skyhammer, this is a great Alpha Strike, otherwise a points sink. When I am not using the Skyhammer, I'll farm out the Grav Cannon marines to various Tactical Squads in games.
Here's the Sergeant, I like the 4th Company green trims to the pauldrons, a change from the majority of my Relictors 5th Company black trimmed black pads, just seen that I missed the Sergeant's gun casing Aquila, doh, have to quickly fix that.
I added two stripes to the Chainsword and a green 4th Company Knee Pad for a touch of colour as the accent colour I usually use on the weapon casings in bone is missing from these Devastators - I was up against the time pressures of getting them ready for Warhammer World, so the bone went - but I like the different scheme - marks them different from the mass of 5th Company marines.

Right, next up for the Relictors painting pile - Bikes, maybe something rather shooty which has been languishing in the closet of doom for years... and a lot more Devastators - my aim is for another Grav Cannon 5-man Squad for an effective Skyhammer Annihilation Force alpha strike, plus I want a squad of 4 Heavy Bolters for the rule of cool - they look awesome - so much dakka. And then maybe some Lascannons, Multi-Meltas... the Devastator box comes with more weapons than you can use, so I had to buy a Tactical Squad just to use the bodies as Devastators!

Thanks for reading.

Relictors Space Marine Land Raider - Terminus Ultra Pattern

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by to have a look at my latest addition to the Relictors Battle Company arsenal, a Terminus Ultra Pattern Land Raider - this is a beast of a tank and in these days of Imperial Knights and 40K scale Titans, this tank was originally designed as over the top Apocalypse tank, but now would fit in nicely.
I love this front view, yes count them, 3x TL Lascannons and 2x Sponson Lascannons - why is it not the same as the GW out of the box, well, the truth is that design sucks! The rear TL Sponson guns cannot fire forward because the single Lascannons are in the way! So, I polled what I should do back in 2011... yes this has taken awhile to be completed!! The poll was found here with suggestions of how I should mount the guns. The results, here, said mount as Triple Sponsons, which was my favourite option too.
Lord Halfpenny got around to doing his Terminus Ultra "Invictus" with Predator Turrets on top, seen here. I got as far as a WIP, here, in Oct last year before it went back into the closet of doom - but finally its completed!
I have used the Forge World Extra Armour upgrade to make it look more meaty and fit for task as a Titan Slayer, I also added extra bits from Rhino Razorback top plates to show extra ventilation grilles needed to cool the Lascannon capacitors inside, I reversed a side door to show more ventilation grilles and added a jet engine fan assembly on top similar to the fans on a Vindicator top plate, but bigger!
Here you can see the door ventilation grill, similar to what Lord Halfpenny did for his Terminus Ultra.
I also added a Command Frame SM sensor package to denote the extra sensors this tank would require for targeting so many Lascannons together, and of course, the sharp eyed among you have noticed riding in the cupola a certain Sergeant Chronus for a lovely boost to Ballistic Skill!
Here you can see the trimmed down plates from a Rhino, I think it makes the tank look different enough from a 'normal' Godhammer Pattern, the Extra Armour helps too! I also put some spikes around the vent on top as a nod to the dubious practices of the Relictors dabbling in Chaos to fight Chaos, and some Razorback front spikes on the front of the tank to indicate that this tank does not use its Assault Ramp, as it does not have any transport capacity because the internals are full of those Lascannon capacitors!
I painted it exactly as I did all my other Relictors tanks, using the accent colour of Bleached Bone (Ushabti Bone) to put emphasis on the number of Lascannon barrels this thing has ;)  The main colour is Codex Grey (and Army Painter Uniform Grey) and washed with Nuln Oil and highlighted Administratum Grey. The golds are Gehennas Gold, washed with Agrax Earthshade and highlighted Auric Armour Gold and Runefang Steel. The weathering is a little Calthan Brown (Mournfang Brown).
Here is a close up of Sergeant Chronus, the spear of Macragge, lent to the Relictors... I love his helmet, so Ipainted his Gaunlets to match the heavy-metal vibe the helmet portrays. Behind him you can see the Command Frame Sensor package.
How did I convert the Lascannons, well using a spare set of Razorback Lascannons, I trimmed them at just behind the barrel length and affixed to the Land Raider sponson assembly as the pictures show.

Right, this beast should make short work of an Imperial Knight over the length of the Battlefield, hopefully...BS5 and TL, hitting on 2's and re-rolling 3x Lascannons... lets hope those pesky Ion Shields don't save them all!

Thanks for dropping by, cheers all, Siph.

Mechanicum - Cult Mechanicus Datasmith

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by and checking out WeeMen... no Relictors progress this week, but a little progress with something different, hobby butterfly continues to plague my projects...
I actually sprayed the cloak with a car spray to see the effect it would give, and I quite liked it, I added some highlights but generally this is what it sprayed like, some depth and shadow to it over the basecoat of Chaos Black.
I spent awhile matching the blue power orbs/cables etc to match my first Datasmith, painted by Mordian7th.
I spent some time on the face to make sure it looked decent. And a head green power cable to match the first Datasmith too. But this one has a little more dull metal and less Gold/Bronze to differentiate.
And finally, a matching pair of Datasmiths, both similar but slightly different schemes, not bad attempt to match the excellent Mordian7th's handiwork, continuing to make the Ad Mech forces my own. Cheers for dropping in, some progress on the Kastellan Robots for this Datasmith soon - I think triple Heavy Phospher Blasters for the next two...

Forge World Warlord Titan Construction Build - WIP #16 - Basing

Hello dear Readers and titan fans, thanks for dropping in. I've been a little lax in progress of Dominus Victoria since finishing the construction build of the superstructure. But, I am a hobby butterfly and get distracted by new projects and old ones I haven't got around to finishing from before, the closet of doom has plenty of projects to take up when the fancy takes me.
Anyway, I bought a wooden shelf and traced the circles using the Apoc Blast Template, I will be matching the base to the bases of my Reaver and two Warhounds, so a circular design was the way forward.
I used my Jigsaw at a 45 degree angle, you can see the waste wood above. And below you can see I have given the legs their first basecoat, after a black primer, some Leadbelcher basecoat and next I will need to spray with some washes, a blend of Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil.
As you can see I gave the edges of the base a quick spray with Mournfang Brown to see what the effect would be, but I think I will need to seal the edges with some filler or modelling clay to give a smooth edge - I am open to suggestions please, whats best to seal the wood edges, at the moment I can see the grain.
A base is not really needed I would suggest, but it gives the massive amount of resin better stability and strength as the legs will be fixed to the base, forming a strong loop rather than legs like open forks. So, some little progress and a request for suggestions please. Cheers, Siph.

Relictors RTB01 Space Marines

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in, I picked up a squad of RTB01 from a well known auction site recently, for a bargain of about a quid each, so even cheaper in the States now Brexit happened! ;)  I already had a squad of my own from 1980's, but I thought I'd actually paint some up as Relictors to add to my ever growing (2nd) Battle Company - I mean 5th COY is almost complete, now I add units to the 4th COY....
The sculpts required quite a lot of clean up and mold-line removing, we just didn't care as much back in those days, this squad have some serious glue splodge issues too... the sculpt itself holds its own over time, nowhere near the level of posability or crisp details as the latest Tactical Squad, but I think these Classic marines look cool on 32mm bases.
I used the same colours and accents I usually do, brass magazines, red eyes, gloss Pauldrons, and based the same. I painted the powerpack vents metallic as they lack the detail of the new kits so looked better all metallic with a black dot on the underside rather than a grille.
Here is a size comparison shot of a modern Devastator, an RTB01 and the newest oldest LE2 Imperial Space Marine anniversary miniature.
As you can see against a normal MK7 Tactical Marine, the RTB01 is squatting a little and has thinner leg greaves, but overall I think these will blend into the Battle Company quite well. Just the other nine to paint up, I have had to add a FW Bolt Pistol to the squad Sergeant as an empty hand was lacking, plus a grenade holding hand on another marine as the poses were fairly limited if the left hand wasn't under the bolter casing, it was a closed empty fist.

Thanks for reading and I'll post some progress of something more shooty soon! Cheers, Siph.

Relictors Leviathan Dreadnought w/ Storm Cannons

Hello readers, thanks for dropping by, well I promised it would be something more shooty in my last post so here is my latest addition to the Relictors Battle Company, a mighty Leviathan Dreadnought armed with Storm Cannons.
I painted this beast the same scheme as my usual Relictors, Codex Grey, washed Nuln Oil, highlighted Administratum Grey. The base was Calthan Brown, drybrushed with both Kommando Khaki and Ushabti Bone.
I drybrushed the cannons, and to add some interest with gold recoil springs and Leadbelcher hydraulic cylinders. I wanted them to look industrial and heavily used.
The under mechanical bits were also Leadbelcher drybrushed and then I did the grey. The exhaust ports were weathered with a little Tin Bitz to look aged.
I can't wait to unleash the firepower of this Dreadnought, I opted to model the Missiles too. More dakka is always a welcome addition.
The longer term plan will be to get another Leviathan, but armed with a Siege Claw and Siege Drill for lots of close combat goodness, I might even get a Dreadnought Drop Pod so I can deliver him into the enemy lines.
And for all those who are interested in how big this beast is, a size comparison shot of the Dreadnought with its smaller gun happy brothers, a 'normal' Rifleman, and a Kheres Assault Cannon Relic Contemptor. This Leviathan is huge and bulky.
And finally, a shot with a Battle Brother, yep big...

Relictors Battle Company Progress - Mordian7th chart style

Hi, I thought I'd have a little work related fun at lunchtime one work day and see if I could remember all my Relictors Forces and tote up what I have already bought and need to complete.... I know I get distracted by new hobby purchases and a long running joke is my lack of ability to finish off an actual Battle Company - I am precisely 2 Marines away from that goal!! One Veteran with Banner and one Company Champion for the WIP Command Squad... well Mordian7th is great at putting up To-Do Charts and sticking to them, me less so.

Anyway, there you go... a lot of Relictors as can be seen by the chart above and a Parade Ground photo from Feb this year, and some To-Do; and yet no actual Battle Company per se yet...

Grey Knights Rifleman Contemptor - Mortis Pattern w/ Autocannons

Hello Readers, I recently picked up a pile of Grey Knights, some unpainted, some painted and some WIP from Jeff at Pirate Viking Painting. I had already randomly picked up Interrogator Chaplain Seraphicus from Jeff in the past so I knew he can be trusted and the standard of his work is of a great standard, so the bargain of the month was not to be sniffed at - I am a hobby butterfly and these will help me bounce between projects keeping me motivated. I had already painted a Psycannon armed Grey Knight for myself so these kinda cemented that foray into yet another Allied Force I could have some fun with...
Here is a shot of the WIP state I received the Contemptor in, not too bad a starting point eh?
So, to satisfy my hobby butterfly, I thought I'd see if I could do a decent job finishing off the Contemptor. The Terminators and Strike Team already done by Jeff will only require matching basing and my Psycannon Grey Knight only needed another Asurmen Blue wash to fit in nicely, so I am confident I can expand the force to look whole as I add units, I've always wanted a Dreadknight or two after facing them from Lord Halfpenny's side of the battlefield.
I toned down the blue glaze over the carapace by stippling on Runefang Steel, drybrushed the magazines Brass to break up the Leadbelcher area, did the head, kneepads, shoulder icons, exhausts and purity seals and based the same as all my armies and this was the result.
I added a tiny skull to the shoulder badge where there is raised detail and echoed this on the kneepad with a Black Skull and crenelated pattern too.
The base was finished off with a wrecked Iron Warrior bike from my bits box, 6thDegree plays Iron Warriors so it fits right in. I will play this as a normal or Venerable Grey Knight Dreadnought as I cannot find Grey Knight Contemptor rules even though these I guess are Grey Knight FW Shoulders? ###EDIT### seen that these are FW etched brass icons on 'normal' Contemptor Dreadnought arms, sweet.

Cheers for dropping by, Siph.

Adeptus Mechanicus Kastelan Robot Maniple w/ Heavy Phosphor Blasters

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in. Here is my latest addition to the Adeptus Mechanicus Cult Mechanicum forces, two more Kastelan Robots. The first pair of robots I have are armed with Power Fists, but this time I wanted some shooty robots, what the Mechanicum do well is Heavy Phosphor Blasters! Three Shots, S6, AP3, 36in and same again with Twin Linked.
I went of a darker scheme than the first two done by blogger buddy Mordian7th, but the blue power cables and tan sections will tie them in with the other pair. I don't like the heads that GW provides, they look too much like helmets with visors from Lost In Space.... "Danger Danger Robinson Family"... these heads are from Wargame Exclusive dot com.
I went for a pose with both of these, shooty in your face, both arms firing, and the pintle mount too. That's Heavy Phosphor Blasters and TL Heavy Phosphor Blasters, with the addition of -1 to Cover to other shots for the rest of the phase if something is hit and wounded - Phosphor lights them up nicely!
So nice, I did the same pose twice!
On the base I used one of the face plates that I don't like, and shot two holes through it and added a Chaos Star... heretic scum Dark Mechanicus...
Here is one next to the original robots painted by blogger buddy Mordian7th.
And finally, a shot of the Robot Maniple with their Datasmith. Thanks for dropping by, cheers, Siph.

Mechanicum Castellax Battle-Automata w/ Mauler Bolt Cannon

Hello Readers, Thanks for dropping by. More progress in the Mechanicum front, quite nifty 4W Monstrous Creatures with Shock Chargers (S6 AP2 and Monstrous Creature - Smash at S10), a Mauler Bolt Cannon and two Flamers. Nice.
This was a part-painted purchase I made at cost price as the old owner wanted to move on to another army and have made the scheme more Ad Mech than the original green US Army style the previous owner had started, but I liked some of the green bits, so chose to keep the torso and fists green.
I painted the red plates, the details and lenses and weathered the metallics, weapons and did the bases to my usual standard. The paint job before was rather limited and no details but was fairly neat so I didn't need to strip and start again as such, so the undercarriage was pretty much done for me.
I love these robots, great weapon being AP3 Marine killer and looks the part with the huge feed belt and back mounted ammo box. The arms can have Flamers or Bolters, so I left on the flamers as they are designed to get up close with the enemy.
I used the Ad Mech transfers on these to tie all the Ad Mech, Skitarii and Mechanicum forces together, I can hopefully use them all in our friendly games. I have 5 Castellax, two more to finish and another Thanatar Siege Automaton.
Here is a shot of them together, the Power Blades of the other provide Rending and an extra attack.

Terrain and Scenery - Sanctum Imperialis from Renegade Box

Hello Readers, Thanks for dropping in. Here is my latest offering, not satisfied with the huge amount of Terrain and Scenery I managed to complete earlier this year and last year, there was the matter of the Sanctum Imperialis which came in the Imperial Knights Renegade boxset. So, I did some more!
I used a grey primer which helped when spraying the inside, and the outside was sprayed black. I was careful when spraying so the different sides remained different colours. The inside was then sprayed Uniform Grey (AP) and the outside Chaos Black.
The inside was then drybrushed Administratum Grey and washed with Nuln Oil. I used pieces of cut up sprue to create piles of debris at the destroyed ends.
The black areas were drybrushed with Codex Grey and the metal details picked out with golds and leadbelcher washed with Sepia or Nuln Oil respectively. The golds were highlighted with Retributor Gold.
The footplates were drybrushed leadbelcher and washed with Typhus Corrosion.
That's it, another piece finished, I am now at the lucky enough stage were I can pick and choose what terrain we want to put on the table. This is a nice piece, different from all the other pieces I have so far. Go on, do your terrain, they really make the game more enjoyable! (Looking at you Alex, FtF)

Chaos Daemons Vs Relictors and Grey Knights - 2750pts - Superheavy Madness

$

So Lord Halfpenny had finished his Scorpion and I had finished my Leviathan Dreadnought and he suggested a battle. We settled on 2000pts plus a Superheavy, LH had the Greater Brass Scorpion of Khorne and he knew I had Warhound Canis Praetor. It was Dawn of War deployment and the Imperials got first turn. We rolled D3+2 objectives, five of them - distributed around the battlefield - Honoured Imperium Statue, Emperor Statue, central Church, Underground Building entrance and the ruins. 3VPs for Objectives, 1VP for First Blood, Slay Warlord and Linebreaker and 3VPs for Superheavy and Big Guns Never Tire 1VP for each Heavy Support choice destroyed.

The forces were Relictor Space Marines and Grey Knight Allies vs Daemons. I had GK Termies, GK Strike Squad and a Brotherhood Champion along with my Relictors Librarian, Tac Squad, Scout Snipers, Leviathan, 2 Storm Talons and a Landspeeder in a Raptorwing, and a Skyhammer Annihilation Force. Oh, and a twin Turbo Laser armed Warhound - it was D fun or Vulcan Mega Bolter and Plasma Blastgun - I was worried about the Scorpion so went D... I think with hindsight it should have been massed shots.

Lord Halfpenny had the Greater Brass Scorpion of Khorne, Slaanesh Seekers, Slaanesh Fiends, Screamers of Tz, Bloodletters, Plaguebearers, Pink Horrors, Bloodcrushers, Herald of Tz, 3x flying Daemon Princes of Tz and Fateweaver.
LH promptly seized the initiative and I started to worry... the Scorpion could scuttle across the battlefield and tear into the Warhound. The Objective in the ruins was behind this wall.
I set up on the left flank with a Tac Squad and Landspeeder with Libby.
The right flank was held by Warhound Canis Praetor and the Grey Knight Strike Squad
The Leviathan and Scouts held the centre to claim the central Church objective.
Daemon left flank was held by Pink Horrors, Herald of Tz, Seekers, Fiends, Plaguebearers and Daemon Princes and Fateweaver.
In the centre were the Bloodcrushers
The right was held by the Greater Brass Scorpion of Khorne and some Khornate Bloodletters, facing the Imperial might of Warhound Canis Praetor.
Daemon Turn 1 - Scorpion scuttled forward, everything in Daemons army came full forward, Fateweaver and Daemons all flew forward unleashing psychic blasts killing 6 Tactical Marines and Bolts of Change and Possession bouncing off the Leviathans Invul Shield. The Greater Brass Scorpion open fires on the GK Strike Squad killing two GK Strike Marines and a void shield off the Warhound - and then charges forward needing 14in on 3D6 and rolls 14 after Fateweaver intervened, re-rolling a die, getting the charge off on the Imperial Titan - the Titan kicked the Scorpion glancing him before the Scorpion struck back taking a surprisingly low 3 HPs. A lucky escape for the Imperial machine.
Imperial Turn 1 - The Skyhammer Pods came screaming down behind the Daemon Engine, Grav Devs opening up and in a poor round took 2HPs from 23 shots, the MM Devs along with the ML Devs taking a further 3HPs .... The Titan cannot be locked in combat so took a step back and at point blank ripped into the Greater Brass Scorpion ending its foul existence with an apocalyptic explosion, narrowly missing its own frame, glancing and taking a further HP - now on 5HPs, but gaining First Blood too.

The Assault Marines charged the Screamers of Tz, killing one in combat and one from bolt pistol shots, leaving 3 Screamers. The MM Landspeeder and the GK Strike Squad holding the Objective on the Emperors Statue and the mighty Leviathan Dreadnought open fired on the Bloodcrushers advancing towards them and killed 3 Bloodcrushers leaving 2 remaining. The Scouts fire was ineffective. The two survivors from the Tactical Squad opened fire with Plasma and Disintegration Gun killing a Fiend of Slaanesh.
Daemon Turn 2 - The Warpstorm showed how the Daemon Gods were not pleased with the demise of the Greater Brass Scorpion, and all Daemons had a reduction to their Invulnerable saves. The Daemon left flank all advanced towards the thinning Relictor flank, the Daemon Princes vector strike killed 1 Relictor Marine, 2 Scouts and 2 GK Strike Team. The Psychic shooting killed the remaining GK leaving just the Brotherhood Champion. Another Bolt of Change struck the Leviathan but failed to penetrate its armoured bulk.
The Bloodletters tore into the Assault Marines, wiping out one squad and the Bloodcrushers killed 3 Devastators for 1VP (Big Guns Never Tire - Heavy Support Choice).
Imperial Turn 2 - The Relictors Stormtalons arrived from reserve and the Librarian in true fluffy Relictor goodness summoned a squad of his own Bloodletters! Using Chaos against Chaos is a trait of the Relictors, and why they are deemed by some Excommunicate Traitorius - hence the reason the GK contingent was here keeping an eye on the Relictors force!

The Grav Devs opened fire on the Bloodletters killing six, the Warhound also targetted the Bloodletters and Screamers of Tz before they could use their Melta-bites, killing all but one Screamer and Bloodletter. The Assault Marines charged the remaining Screamer killing it with ease. Nearby the other Devastator squad in combat with the Bloodcrushers were trampled underfoot...

The GK Terminator squad also arrived but Deep Strike Mishap'd arriving next to the Titan instead of in the Daemon lines.
The GK's reduced the Invulnerable save of Fateweaver with Banishment, now with the Warpstorm a 6++. The Landspeeder shot and hit the swooping Fateweaver, but he still managed to save it. The GK Teminators shot at Fateweaver and winged him, taking a wound but he kept flying, passing his grounding test. Both Stormtalons concentrated their fire towards Fateweaver and vanquished him in a storm of Assault Cannon fire, gaining Slay the Warlord!
The Disintegrator Gun got hot but the power armour saved the marine, The Leviathan open fired with the Storm Cannons, killing two Seekers of Slaanesh.  The Titan fired its remaining Laser Destroyer, targeting the Pink Horrors and sent them all back to the warp!
Daemon Turn 3 - The Dark Prince Thirsts Warpstorm struck down one Scout and wounded a Bloodcrusher. The Herald of Tz shot the 'loyal' Bloodletters killing six and the Seekers of Slaanesh charged and wiped out the remaining Bloodletters with an unfavourable Instability Test. The nearby Fiend struck at the Relictor with the Disintegrator Gun killing him but the accompanying Librarian was steadfast in combat.

One Daemon Prince used Flicker of Flame wiping out the Grav Devs (for a Heavy Support VP). Another Prince vector strike attack on the GK Terminators killed one and followed up with a Bolt of Tz killing another. Nearby, the remaining two Bloodcrushers and single Bloodletter charged and killed the 5 man Assault Squad, in reply they dragged down a single Bloodcrusher.  The Relictor Traitor Daemon Prince, vector struck a Stormtalon but failed to damage it.
Imperial Turn 3 - A Stormtalon shot a swooping Daemon Prince reducing him to one wound.
The other Stormtalon shot at the other Daemon Prince but failed to wound him. The GK Terminators shot and wiped out the remaining Bloodcrusher. The Drop Pod auto-senses targeted the nearby lone Bloodletter killing it.
The Librarian lost his duel with the Fiend, giving the Daemons Slay the Warlord. The Leviathan was enraged and open fired all the Stormcannons wiping out the Herald. The remaining Scouts aimed at the fast moving Seekers and wiped them out - hooray for Scouts! This left just a Fiend on the Relictor right flank.
The Titan targeted the Plaguebearers behind the Church and killed seven of ten of the foul daemons.
At the end of turn 3, the Daemon forces were reduced to 3 flying Daemon Princes, 3 Plaguebearers and a Fiend.
Daemon Turn 4 - A Daemon Portaglyph spewed out 4 Pink Horrors adding to the depleted Daemon ranks. The Fiend charged the Scouts killing all but the Sergeant who fought on. The Traitor Relictor Daemon Prince fired a Bolt of Tz at the rear armour of the Leviathan but failed to glance. The red Daemon Prince vector struck and Bolt of Tz the Brotherhood Champion, killing the Hero of Titan. The final Daemon Prince struck the Lascannon Stormtalon shaking it.
Relictors Turn 4 - The Storntalons between them shot and killed the recently arrived Pink Horrors and the remaining 3 Plaguebearers.
The Leviathan opened up on a Daemon Prince in the air who had been reduced to one wound earlier, killing him outright for a VP. The Slaanesh Fiend remained tied in combat with the Scout Sergeant.
At the end of turn 4 just two Daemon Princes were left in the sky - could they risk landing to claim objectives as the Titan was tracking them.
Daemon Turn 5 - The Slaanesh Fiend remained in combat with the mighty Scout Sergeant. The Daemon Princes vector struck the GK's killing one more Terminator and took a HP off the Landspeeder.
Imperial Turn 5 - The Landspeeder claimed the ruins objective and snap fired at the nearest flying Daemon Prince but missed. The remaining GK Terminators claimed the Emperor Statue Objective, the Leviathan moved towards the centre Church Objective. One Stormtalon went into the hover over the underground bunker Objective, whilst the other claimed the Honoured Imperium Statue Objective and closed the Portaglyph with its Lascannons. The Scout Sergeant continued to exchange blows with the Fiend of Slaanesh! The Titan lacking any anti-air continued to track the flying Daemon Princes.

We rolled for end of game, but it went to a turn 6...

Daemon Turn 6 - One Daemon Prince vector struck the GKs and Bolt of Tz the Stormtalon, but failed to penetrate. The other Daemon Prince Flicker Fired at the other Stormtalon but the hail of shots failed to do any damage. In combat the Scout Sergeant bested the Fiend and forced an instability test which the daemon failed and evaporated before the Scout Sergeants eyes!

Imperial Turn 6 -  The hovering Stormtalons and Leviathan Dreadnought open fired at the Relictor Traitor Prince wounding him twice, the Titan moved up to the Emperor Statue Objective to pay homage to the Almighty...

We rolled for a turn 7, however the dice gods decided that enough was enough. The Imperial Forces claimed all five Objectives, for 15VPs plus Slay the Warlord, and First Blood and Linebreaker with a Stormtalon for 18VPs plus one Daemon Prince (Heavy Support) and the Greater Brass Scorpion of Khorne for a further three, making a total of 22VPs. The Daemons claim Linebreaker with a Daemon Prince, Slay the Warlord and two Devastator Squads (Heavy Support Slots) for a total of 4VPs.

A decisive Victory for the Imperials and ranged D...

Conclusions

Great fun by all. Seizing the Initiative certainly livened it up a little! Some might say that Ranged D made the outcome inevitable, however looking at what he actually did, far from it. He was ineffectual for 3 turns as he cannot target flyers, with hindsight a Vulcan Mega-Bolter and Plasma Blastgun would probably have clipped and wounded the flying circus much better.

The fickle nature of the Warpstorm coupled with the GK ability to reduce the Invulnerable saves with Banishment psychic power led to the downfall of Fateweaver!

The model of the match for me was the Scout Sergeant, fighting and overcoming the Fiend of Slaanesh over 5 rounds of CC.

The Greater Brass Scorpion of Khorne was a lot less effective in CC with the Warhound than we both expected - only removing 3HPs. In turn, the return fire was somewhat overkill - perhaps next match up we will use Warhound Canis Bellum instead...

Subtle Posing the Betrayal At Callth Contemptor Dreadnought

I am not a fan of the mono-static pose of the BaC Contemptor, but am a great fan of all things Contemptor Dreadnought, and cheap plastic ones to boot! So I did a subtle cut and shunt on the legs and waist to give a slightly less static straight pose. This is a putty shot to get the idea, not the final pose, I think I'll do a slightly less angled torso.
After cutting the Dreadnought at the waist and in the leg join, I used Green Stuff and superglue to fill out the leg and re-position it at a slight angle - I think the original pose suffers as both feet are perfectly aligned front to back, whereas a slight change makes it look a lot more natural and less awkward?. If that makes sense for a 15ft tall walking sarcophagus killing machine??
If you have a number of these, a small alteration like this will improve the look of your force I reckon. What are your thoughts? Anyone else altered theirs yet, post a link to pictures in the comments, cheers, Siph.

Necron Destroyer #3 w/ Gauss Cannon

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in to have a look. I have been neglecting progress with the Necrons for a while now, distracted by Ad Mech, Relictors, Grey Knights, Warlord Titans and various other distractions - but time to address this a little.

I've had a number of Necrons laying about needing some attention, of these the Destroyers were low down the priorities but with the latest (now old!) Codex improvements the Destroyers gain their own formation which goes some way to address this.
I continued the blue accent of the army with the carapace and some gold in the transfers. Other than that, Army Painter Plate Metal washed with Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade makes up the bulk of the colours. I use a red Gauss energy for spot colour across the army too.
A quick and simple paint job, S5 AP3 2 shot Gauss Cannons which cut through MEQ 3+ armour, with preferred enemy (everything) for re-rolls of ones and the Destroyer Cult bonus "Extermination Protocols" allows all units to re-roll failed to wound rolls and failed armor penetrations rolls in the shooting phase. Combine that with the already good strength of the Destroyers Gauss cannons and the Gauss rule itself, which allows you to wound models regardless of toughness on a 6 or to glance a vehicle on a 6 and you have a potent unit that has a chance to wound anything on the battlefield. Oh, and Preferred Enemy Everything for re-rolls of 1's To Hit.
The Destroyer Cult is made of a Destroyer Lord plus 3 units of Destroyers and 0-1 units of Heavy Destroyers, s I have a fair few more minis to complete before I would like to use the bonuses... but here is the first Squad done. I could of course field these three as Units of One each, but they won't last long that way,
I did pick up some Heavy Destroyer Finecast kits but they were rubbish casts, so I will probably convert some using Immortal Weapons. Well, thats that for now, now I have a taste of Necrons again, perhaps some more attention is needed on the Necron to-do pile!?

Thanks for dropping by, cheers, Siph.

Hello Dear Readers, thanks for dropping in. This is the latest progress I made with any of my Armies, I had this guy from the Annihilation Barge kit laying around for, ooh, you know a few years (May 2014!) and finally thought I should finish him off.
The base was a standard 25mm base but extended to 32mm using base adapters to give him more gravitas over the Warriors who are all on 25mm bases - I probably won't change them, unlike my Marines. The cloak was painted the same accent colour as the rest of the force, Necron Abyss. I signified his rank with the use of Gold on the head.
The WarScythe was painted the same reds as the Gauss energy and the base of the staff echoes the golds used in the head ornamentation. I slightly converted the WarScythe arm to bend it at the elbow for a less 'thrusting aloft' feel than the original straight arm. When I do a Command Barge, the Lord embarked can have his thrusting arm.
Here is another view shot of the Resurrection Orb colours, glowing a bit brighter than the Gauss energy elsewhere.

Well, there you have it, a simple use of a spare figure to fill a cheap HQ slot if needed, or to represent a dis-embarked Command Barge Lord - just means I now have to re-base Imotekh the Stormlord on to a bigger base to match!

Necron Destroyer #4 w/ Gauss Cannon

Hello good world, another quick update post, I've been centering my hobby butterfly on Necrons recently, so getting a few models from the to-do pile done and into the Necron army. As mentioned in a previous post, the Destroyer Cult makes Destroyers that much better and more usable, plus I love the AP3 Gauss Cannons so another Destroyer was finished off.  My Necrons are not going to win any painting awards, but they are simple, neat and tidy practical gaming standard and the blue contrasts well with the metallics.
I cut one of the larger transfers into two pieces which worked well in this example. I use Micro Sol to 'melt' the transfer onto the curved surfaces and then seal with 'Ardcoat once dry. Then seal the whole model with Purity Seal / AP Satin Varnish to get rid of the gloss. Makes the transfers seamless and look painted on.
A simple line highlight and the metallic parts are washed with Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade then line highlighted with Runefang Steel.
There you go, a quick hobby update. Any progress is good progress is a good mantra to have - especially when the To-Do pile is huge and GW darn them keep producing stuff I want to buy, looking at you Deathwatch and a Corvus Blackstar! They will have to wait...

Thanks for reading, hopefully some Necron Overlords out there get some inspiration - who wants green plastic toy Gauss rods anyway??!

Imotekh the Stormlord re-based and another RTB01 - hobby bits and pieces

Not a new paintjob, you may have seen him here before, but in light of the Lord being re-based on a 32mm base, I had to re-visit the Stormlord! Here is Imotekh, now on a generous and more fitting 32mm base! Shame he was nerfed.... guess I won't be using him that often now - his Lightning Strike used to rock! Not any more...
And another RTB01 Tactical marine joins his Brother, now two RTB01 done. Had an accident with the flamer marine, now will have to be re-armed with a modern weapon... I'm thinking a Spellcrow Gravity Gun (Grav Gun) to give an alternative (cheaper!!) twist to an old school classic... and RTB01 armed with a Grav Gun, awesome! The Sergeant has the classic Powerfist, but I've had to re-arm him with the FW Character Bolt Pistol which fits surprisingly well. I also had two too many fist arms like the left-hand marine, so one was re-handed with a fist holding a grenade, and another with an open cupped hand to better hold a Bolter. These are going to look fine!

Batrep - Ad Mech Vs Ultramarines 2000pts - The Scouring

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in to check out the latest fun game of 40K we had, it was an awesome match, could the Cult Mechanicus and Skitarii forces withstand the might of the Ultramarines Skyhammer Task Force led by the mighty hero Librarian Tigurius; or would the faceless war machine of the Mechanicum consume the proud warriors in their never ending quest for arcane knowledge...

The battle lines were drawn up, The Scouring, Hammer and Anvil deployment, 6 objectives, 1x 4VP, 1x 1VP, 2x 3VP and 2x 2VP randomly scattered and unknown until the first turn - the Ad Mech forces won first turn and UM failed to seize. Destroyed FA Units would give up 1VP and secondary First Blood, Linebreaker and Slay Warlord were each 1VP. Lord Halfpenny had 4 FA Units, Attack Bike, Drop Pod, 2x Assault Squads. Siph had Sydonian Dragoons.

The UM fielded a first turn drop pod assault of 4 pods, Grav/Melta Skyhammer Annihilation Force plus Grav/Plasma Sternguard and Grav Centurions with Tiggy, backed up with another pod of Tac Marines, a Thunderfire, 2x Scouts and an allied Vindicare Assassin and a Multi-Melta Attack Bike.

The Cult Mechanicus fielded a Dominus Tech Priest with 2x Torsion Cannon Breachers in a deep strike formation - Holy Requisitioner, 2x Castelan Robot Maniples, one with PF and one with 3x Heavy Phospher Blaster robots and some Fulgrite Techpriests. These were allied with Skitarii Rangers, 2x Sydonian Lancers, 2x Dunecrawlers (Neutron Laser and Icarus Array) and a squad of Sicaran Ruststalkers.
The Mechanicum set up knowing the drop pod assault was imminent, so used the Canticles of Shroudpsalm to cast an improved Cover Save to Ad Mech Units (increased by 2+), the Sydonian Dragoons had a 5+ cover save in the open anyway due to Incense and the Ruststalkers infiltrated up the field by Plasma Obliterator objective. The Rangers held the objective in the Sanctum Imperialis and the the Castelan Robot Maniple with guns held the Watchtower objective.
The UM force set up mainly in reserve, with 2x Scout Squads in back field, one by Plasma Obliterator and one in bolstered ruins by Techmarine/Thunderfire and Vindicare and another objective.

The Objectives were revealed and the Plasma Obliterator terrain one was worth 2VPs, the Thunderfire held Mechanicum Ruins terrain was 3VPs, the central terrain Power Generators 4VPs (The Macaroon Generator - everyone loves cake!), the central Reactor building 1VP, the Sanctum Imperialis held by Rangers 3VPs and Skull Watchtower terrain held by shooty Castelans 2VPs. (Check out the links for terrain ideas).
Ad Mech Turn 1 - The Sicaran Ruststalkers moved up and assaulted the MM Attack Bike slaying it easily for First Blood and FA Choice (2VP). The Fulgrite Techpriests moved towards the centre objective. The Onager Dunecrawlers with snap-fire Icarus Array and Neutron Laser targeted the ruins with the Scouts and Thunderfire killing 4 Scouts (good rolling 6's to Hit and Gatling Rocket Launcher ignores cover) and making the ML armed scout flee the building. The Castelan PF Robots on the far flank moved forward towards the Thunderfire.
UM Turn 1 - Four Drop Pods scream down into the Ad Mech lines, the Icarus Autocannons, separate from the Icarus Missiles and Rockets intercepted a Drop Pod and took a HP off Tigurius' Pod, Tiggy targeted the Fulgrite Priests killing 5 and wounded a Castelan Robot. The Grav Centurions target the Robots on the Watchtower but combined cover saves and Shroudpsalm saved them entirely! Lord Halfpenny also forgot the chest mounted MLs.
In assault, one of the Assault Squads charged the Sicaran Ruststalkers killing one but were wiped out in return through a combination of number of attacks and transonic blade attacks.
The Skyhammer Grav Devastators wiped out the Datasmith and his two PF armed Castelan Robots - boom. The Assault Marine squad near the Onager Dunecrawlers struck with the Eviscerator cleaving through the Neutron Laser armed machine after it was glanced by the Combi-Grav Sternguard. The Assassin failed to glance the same machine.
The Combi-Plasma Sternguard along with the Skyhammer MM Devastators opened up on the two Sydonian Dragoons wiping them out for Scouring FA choice (1VP). The Thunderfire Cannon struck at the Rangers killing five but they remained steadfast. A brutal first turn, showing the power of the Skyhammer.
Ad Mech Turn 2 - The Techpriest Dominus and Breachers arrived from Deep Strike to gun down 2 Grav Centurions with their AP1 Torsion Cannons. The nearby Fulgrite Priests failed their charge.
The Castelan Robots wiped out the MM Devastators with a flurry of Heavy Phospher AP3 shots. The Dunecrawler in combat with the Assault Marines was glanced once, and the nearby Rangers shot and missed the Sternguard below them.
The Sicaran Ruststalkers charged and easily wiped out the Scout Squad by the Plasma Obliterator, losing one to overwatch.
UM Turn 2 - Tiggy wounded a Castelan Robot with Smite and Psychic Screamed a Breacher taking a wound. The lone Centurion opened fire on the Castelans killing a robot, two remained. The Grav Devs targeted the Rangers in the ruins, killing 4 of the 5, the Drop Pod automated guns felled the last Ranger. The Vindicare Assassin shot at the Dominus but the Refractor Field saved him.
The Thunderfire targeted the recent arrivals and struck the Breachers 7 times but failed to wound or get past the armour. The Sternguard now switched to Vengeance Rounds killing 4 of the six Breachers. The Scout ML shot at the Ruststalkers but missed.
The Assault Squad in combat with the Dunestalker tore into it with the Eviscerator, cleaving the reactor triggering an explosion which killed two marines!
The Drop Pod containing the 5 man Tac Squad dropped down by the Fulgrite Priests and shot them killing one, and then charged (which after we realised you cannot do, nevermind.. these are not Skyhammer) killing another, the Priests in return killed a marine (no real effect on results). Another great turn for the UM's, the Ad Mech forces are reeling, now need to start the fight back...
Ad Mech Turn 3 - The Castelan Robots sight the Sternguard advancing on the Dominus and wipe out the Combi-Plasma Squad. With hindsight we played the Lumingen rule wrong, however they were in the open so even Going to Ground would have only saved on a six, and the weight of fire (6x TL AP3 and 6x AP3 from two robots) so we agreed it wouldn't make much difference! The Dominus on his own with Macro-stubber Pistol and Volkite Blaster killing the last Grav Centurion (who rolled double one for 2+ save) and Tigurius for Slay the Warlord (1VP). The remaining Breachers open fired on the FA Drop Pod destroying it for a further (1VP). The Fulgrite Priest in combat with 4 Tac Marines died... The Ruststalkers stalked towards the Objective worth 4VPs. A great turn-around turn for the depleted Ad Mech forces, putting some hurt on the UM forces and gaining vital VPs.
UM Turn 3 - The Vindicare Assassin proved his worthless nature for Lord Halfpenny again, needing a 2 to Hit the Dominus, rolling a one, but the BS bonus gets a second roll of a 4+ to hit and still failed (facepalm!) rolling another one... BS, he certainly is again.
The Thunderfire Cannon and Vengeance Round Sternguard finish off the two Breachers. The Thunderfire also puts a wound on the Dominus. The Assault Squad survivors move up towards the Dominus. The Grav Devestators now move towards the Objective in the Sanctum Imperialis now the Rangers have all been killed. The 4 Tac Marines move towards the Power Generator Objective, the Ruststalkers are targeted by the Scout with ML, killing one with a Krak Missile.
Ad Mech Turn 4 - The Castelans holed up in the Skull Watchtower target the advancing Sternguard, wiping them out, two squads in two turns! The Dominus being threatened by the advancing Assault Marines chooses to charge himself, killing two marines before being struck down by the remaining Assault Sergeant and his Eviscerator ceding (1VP) for Slay the Warlord. The Sicaran Ruststalkers use their superior speed and close the distance to the Tactical Marines on the Objective.

UM Turn 4 - The Assassin opens up on the Castelans but again, fails to penetrate. The Drop Pod guns fail to wound the same. The Tactical Marines fire on the advancing Sicaran Ruststalkers but they save the shots. The Assault Sergeant charges the remaining Castelan Robots and Datasmith intent on a Challenge, but is cut down in a hail of Overwatch fire!
Ad Mech Turn 5 - All that is left is the Castelans and two Ruststalkers. The big robots use their superior range to snipe at the Grav Devs across the board who are heading to claim an Objective, killing three and making the remaining marines flee away from the Sanctum Imperialis - putting the Objective worth 3VPs out of reach. The Sicaran Ruststalkers charge the Tactical Marines killing two remaining in combat with the final members, contesting the objective.
UM Turn 5 - The Assassin yet again fails to wound the Castelan robots, he really should be cast into the void... The Thunderfire hits the same robots 5 times but fails to wound. The Drop Pod Storm Bolters killing one robot. The Scout with ML runs to claim the Plasma Obliterator 2VP Objective. The Tactical Marines in combat with the Sicaran Ruststalkers die leaving the 4VP Objective in Ad Mech hands. The surviving Grav Devs move to secure Linebreaker for (1VP).

The roll for turn 6 failed meaning the game ends... when the dust settles, somehow the Ad Mech claim victory from the jaws of defeat!!

The UM's claim 3VP Objective, 2VP Objective, 1VP for Slay Warlord, 1VP for Linebreaker and 1VP for Scouring (FA Sydonian Dragoons) = 8VPs

The Ad Mech claim 4VP Objective, 2VP Objective, 1VP for Slay Warlord, 1VP for First Blood, 4VPs for Scouring (FA Drop Pod, Attack Bike, Assault Squad x2) = 12VPs

Conclusions

Well that was a bloody brutal battle, awesome twists and turns and after a big bloody nose from the Skyhammer and Drop Pod Assault in the Ad Mech lines, after turn two the tide started to turn with the very effective shooting from the Castelans with the AP3 guns on the Skull Watchtower Objective.

The only UM forces left were 1 Scout, 1 Techmarine with Thunderfire, 1 useless Vindicare and 2 Grav Devastators and 4 empty Drop Pods. The Ad Mech had 2 Sicaran Ruststalkers, 1 Castelan Robots and Datasmith.

One more turn and the Ruststalkers would have been wiped out by Drop Pods and Thunderfire Cannon losing 4VPs. The Canticles of Omnissah granting Shroudpsalm in the first turn saved the Castelan Robots from Centurion Grav Cannons which became the undoing of the UM force. With hindsight, instead of advancing the Sternguard towards the AP3 guns, one squad should have claimed the Sanctum Imperialis Objective for 3VPs, but this was left to the Grav Devs which turned and ran when they needed to get in the building, the Assault Sergeant should have sought cover away from the bristling overwatch that killed him, perhaps claiming the Reactor Objective for 1VP and not ceding 1VP for his FA Unit.

Unit of the match for UMs was the Eviscerator armed Assault Sergeant chewing his way through two Onager Dunecrawlers and the Dominus. The Thunderfire Cannon which was a constant thorn in my side and the Sternguard proved their worth killing Breachers x2 and Sydonian Dragoons. The Ad Mech unit of the match was the Castelan Robot Maniple with Heavy Phosper Blasters for deleting units Sternguard x2, MM Devastators, Assault Squad, closely followed by the Sicaran Ruststalkers who killed Attack Bike, Scout Squad and Tactical Marines.

We love a close match and throughout it seemed like the Ad Mech were on the back foot, but still in disbelief how they clawed that back. Brilliant fun game had by both Lord Halfpenny and myself.

Necron Destroyer #5 w/ Gauss Cannon

Hi all, just a quick post to show more progress on the Necron Destroyer front, pumping them out, 5 done now from the massive to-do pile, feels good to make some progress, albeit small.
They won't win painting awards, but perfectly good for the table top, I enjoyed the transfer work on this one, a challenge to get it placed and flat before the Micro Sol softened it too much. A couple of liberal coats of Micro Sol later, and a seal from 'Ardcoat and they look seamless.
Here is a group photo. Four more to go before I move on to the Destroyer Lord or Heavy Gauss Cannon Destroyers, so I can field the Destroyer Cult Formation.
And a shot of the transfers, various designs, but pleased my transfer work is improving, the Necron Night Scythes were terrible for frosting on the transfer film. Think I've solved that now with the application of the 'Ardcoat layer to 'glue' it down before the matt varnish spray.

Cheers for stopping by, Siph.

Necron Destroyer Lord - The Destroyer Cult is coming Alive (Undead!)

Hello Readers, here is my latest offering, to cap off the Destroyer Cult and go some way to making it game legal. Okay I have four more Destroyers and a few Heavy Destroyers to do yet, but hey, the force of Destroyers will gain the benefits from the formation (re-roll failed to wound rolls and failed armor penetrations rolls in the shooting phase), combined with re-rolls of 1's to hit because of Preferred Enemy Everything! The only restriction is three units of three Destroyers, one Lord and 0-1 Units of Heavy Destroyers.
The Destroyer Lord was a finecast kit, not the worst but I am glad they've discontinued it. The staff was relatively straight but the end of the Staff of Light was misshapen so I combined it with the spare Warscythe arm to make a bladed weapon, so I can play either Warscythe or Staff of Light.
I used a plethora of transfers to denote his status above the other Destroyers, also a fair bit of gold and blue shoulder pauldrons too. And a golden head like the earlier Lord.
Most of the transfers went on okay, but one shows a little frosting from this angle, but generally they are flat and moulded onto the mini with micro-sol and 'Ardcoat.
So here is the Cult so far. 2x2 Destroyers a single Destroyer and the Lord. A great addition to my growing Necron Army. Thanks for reading and stopping by, Cheers, Siph.
