Necron Heavy Gauss Cannon - Conversion from spare Tomb Blade Bits

$

Hi Readers, well what can I say. I bought these Heavy Gauss Cannons in the height of 'Failcast' epidemic, they were bad... then sat in the closet of doom for years until I did some research. I saw this Heavy Gauss Cannon Conversion on You Tube, but I never have spare Immortal Gauss Blasters, but what I might have is spare Tomb Blade Gauss Blasters - so taking inspiration, from this tutorial, I made the following.
The good thing is, if you arm the Tomb Blades with Particle Casters or Tesla Carbines, you have a pair of Gauss Blasters spare. Also add an arm from the Destroyer kit.
I used the right hand weapon, cut up the left hand weapon to add an extra capacitor ring, cable and barrels. You can extend the barrels a little more if you cut further back as seen below. The normal Gauss Cannon is shown for scale, you want to be bigger than these to show the Heavy Destroyer.
Once glued together, the small indents were filled with green stuff. I think the extra capacitor coils on the end do it justice and show that this is an anti-tank powerful gun.
Here you can see my efforts, the middle one has slightly longer barrels as I cut them a little behind the power cable which looks awesome. Still not as long as the Heavy Gauss Cannon, but bigger, chunkier, twin barreled and most importantly - Straight!

Hope you like this. No need to purchase the wonky 'failcast' until GW makes them straight and in plastic. Cheers for stopping by.

Terrain and Scenery - Cargo Containers - Alternative 40K Scenery

Hello Readers, so today I have an alternative to the great GW Munitorum Armoured Containers scenery. These are more along the lines of the FW containers that FW keep adorning their terrain pieces with, however slightly larger than the GW ones and not as detailed or cannot be opened. But, if like me you want LOS blocking scenery - then these are ideal!
Here is the Imperial Space Marine for size comparison.
See, these are the big brother of the Container scenery, a Land Raider can hide behind these easily.
(Image from King Fluff, blogger buddies at Battle Bunnies Blog - check them out! Great Pre-Heresy stuff everywhere!! - permission sought)

As you can see in the Battle Bunnies image above, the GW containers barely cover the Tech Priest, and a Marine can stand up inside, but no more.
These alternative scenery metal boxes can almost fit a Rhino inside, the hatch looks a little too small but the size overall easily hides a Rhino - an a disembarked squad for good measure.
And, for you Imperial Knight barons, yes, two stacked can easily hide your Knights! Where are these from you ask? They are from the European Company Gamemat.eu the same as the Battle Mat shown. Check out the site. I pre-ordered these ages ago before GW was producing their versions and I didn't know GameMat were doing a line in pre-painted scenery too. Lots of industrial buildings and they look good basically painted, ready to add the details and transfers to taste.
Speaking of the Game Mats, I have also purchased bags for both the mats I bought. £5 each. They deliver to UK and Europe and the US. Hopefully you found the review of the above useful and a possible alternative for your tables.

Cheers, Siph.

Dreadtober - Late to the party but I'm IN

I need all the motivation there is to make a dent in the ever large To-Do pile, so this year I decided to join in the shenanigans of the Dread-tober, this year being run by the talented Joe B at Broken Paintbrush. It's not too late to join up (i guess) so need some motivation to get a Dread-like mini done and by a deadline? Check out the link above.

Greggles, the founder, is doing some IRL wedding and honeymoon stuff, so Joe B has taken up this years mantle. Here is a list of this year's Participants to date, I've just emailed to join today - late I know, but not too late to get one done this month!
I've decided to do the Plastic Betrayal at Calth Contemptor, shown here in an earlier post. HERE. And the photo above shows that I have done little since August! Hence, the great idea of getting motivated by Joe B and co. I've now glued the arms, drilled the barrels and stuck two stones to the base...

Come join the fun!

The Beginnings of a Genestealer Cult - Space Hulk Hybrids

Hobby Butterfly strikes again! I still have my copy of Space Hulk (2nd Edn circa 1996) inside the box I have the Genestealer and Deathwing (circa 1990) expansions too, extra rules, tiles and more importantly Miniatures. In this delightful plunge into the closet of doom - I retrieved the beginnings of a Cult... the 2nd Generation Hybrids from the Genestealer expansion. (I've also two copies of Space Hulk Circa 2009 - one yet to be unwrapped!)
Here are the first of my Genestealer Cult miniatures, they will be mixed in with the modern Hybrid models and armed with a mix of old and new weapons, here they have the original 'chaos' Heavy Weapons for taking on the Deathwing Librarians in the Space Hulk expansion, Chaos Conversion Beamers, Missile Launchers, Autocannon and some Ork Bolters and Bolt Pistols, Ork Plasma Gun, RTB01 Bolters and an Ork Chainsword...
Also with so much Space Hulk, I still had plenty of Purestrain Genestealers on the sprues still, so 5 of them (there are about 50 more if needed!) will also move across to the Cult.

Hmm, what Hive Fleet, well I love the simplicity of the Hive Fleet Kraken tutorial from Tale of Painters and the scheme will allow me to fit my old Imperial Guard Leman Russ Tanks and Squad from way back when I fancied painting something different. These will be incorporated with some Genestealer Cult frame bits icons, and head swaps and Knives, then I'll finally actually have a use for them on the battlefield, I never was going to build an entire Guard Army!

Goodbye grand ideas of a Vraks PDF, and hello insidious Cult... thank-you GW! Awesome!
So, for the cost of nothing so far, I have the start of the Hive Fleet Kraken Genestealer Cult - an insidious beacon for the approaching doom... don't expect rapid progress like Mordian7th, my hobby butterfly flutters around jobs to keep me interested!

Right, off to go write a GW Gift List and email my nearest and dearest...

Dreadtober continues and I am finding working to a challenge very productive and rewarding, something I might put off or not doing yet is getting done. Great news!
Here is the latest progress of the plastic Contemptor Dreadnought, I started from the base upwards, legs are done, now working on the torso and head and front chassis piece. Looking good to be finished by the end of October for sure!

You can follow more Dreadtober participants at Broken Paintbrush blog.

Chaos Daemonettes Commission by Rob at 30Kplus40K

Hello, as some who frequent this blog may know, I have a rather large To-Do pile, a great place to be no doubt, more minis than I have time for doing myself is not a complaint! So, what could I do? I work hard, earn a decent crust so why not help a fellow blogger expand their skill set and get something done on my To-Do pile at the same time!
Rob at 30Kplus40K messaged me a long while ago reference experimenting with possible commission work, I didn't check Google mail for ages (Soz Rob!) and when I replied, I said I'd be interested in getting some Daemons done and as it was Rob's first commission, I'd seen his own work, so gave him free reign in how they were painted. I specified that i'll do the bases to match my own and that I like the 'traditional' Daemonettes scheme.
Rob did an excellent job, kept me informed throughout and was a great price, one we were pretty unsure about as it was his first commission and I thought they were worth more! We came to a favourable price between us.

Has Rob started down the road of Commission painting for a job, or as a side project to fund his awesome Solar Auxilla force budget - who knows? But if you are interested in getting a UK based genius to do some of your To-Do pile for you, feel free to check out his blog and contact him through Google+.

I'm just finishing the bases of the 'Pink' Horrors he did for me too! You may have seen them on his blog, Tzeentch works in bright assorted colours indeed! Love them!

Dreadtober - More Progress with B&C Plastic Contemptor Dreadnought

Hello, welcome to my blog, I've been working on the plastic Contemptor dreadnought for my Relictors growing force. Good progress has been made this week, I finished off the base with a few dead Necron legs (it's last victim!) and some flock for some spot colour, in a similar scheme to the rest of my forces.
I also finished off the Torso, Engine and Head, the name on the scroll work is perhaps his name, "Strength of Will, Courage of Will" being the battle cry of the Relictors Chapter. Maybe I will have to do a brother of his named Courage of Will?!

Battlecry of the Relictors Chapter

I also decided that the armament will be standard for the 40K Codex entry, of an Assault Cannon and Powerfist, rather than model him as a Mortis or something, this way he can be my 'cheaper' Contemptor. I also coloured the shoulder black like my previous Dreadnoughts, but with a green facing, denoting 4th Company colours, as my 5th Company is huge and has a great arsenal already, my fledgling 4th Company can do with reinforcements. Still to add some heat staining washes to the barrels.

Should have him finished in the next week, thanks to the encouragement and motivation Dreadtober has given me. Cheers guys and gals.

Dreadtober Project Finished! - Plastic BatC Contemptor Dreadnought

Hello, Happy Dreadtober/Halloween if you are that way inclined. Thanks for dropping in. Here is my latest addition to the Relictors Battle Company, this time the 4th Company. This is my completed Dreadtober Challenge plastic Betrayal at Calth Contemptor Dreadnought.
I cut the leg and re-positioned to give more movement to the rather static plastic pose, and twisted the model at the waist to give a more dynamic sense of movement, perhaps in the middle of a turn to confront a new emergent threat?
I used a few SM transfers and subtly weathered them. The lower leg one denotes veteran status and 4th Company.
I chose to have the Assault Cannon in the downward position merely to reflect he is changing stance to confront the next enemy. The remains of a dead Necron lies on the base, blasted apart moments ago...
All my Dreadnoughts have a black right shoulder, this time I chose to do a facing of green, the 4th Company colour as well as the large '4's'!
I would just like to say a thanks to the other Dreadtober participants for the constant source of motivation and some inspiration and to Joe B at Broken Paintbrush for organising this years event. And to Greggles for the original idea.
Lastly, a close up of the simple heat stain effect for barrels and exhausts, just application of 4 washes over a bright metal barrel. Tutorial from Ron at From the Warp here Heat Staining, we miss you Ron!

Dreadtober 2016 Ultramarines Submission - Lord Halfpenny

Hi One and all,

Its a shocker- I'm adding to the blog! Siph will be happy! there are lots happening with both my Ultramarine force, and Daemons- more posts to follow.. promise.. (been far to long lost in the Warp my friend!, Siph)
I spotted Siph's posts for Dreadtober 2016, and I thought I had to add my dreadnoughts to the event - it would give me a reason to finish the dreadnoughts I had started but never really finished completely.

So, for October I have finished:
  1. 2 Contemptor Dreadnoughts
  2. 2 Deredeo Dreadnoughts
  3. 1 Chaplain Dreadnought
  4. 1 Ironclad
  5. 2 Venerable Dreadnoughts
  6. 3 Dreadnoughts
These have been seen on previous battle reports, however all weren't finished and needed to be complete - Dreadtober gave me the incentive to get on with the job!
Thanks For Looking!

Dreadtober - Final Showcase Pict Capture

So I finished my pledged Dreadtober Contemptor Dreadnought on time and with a final flourish, Joe B at Broken Paintbrush suggested we took a Showcase photo. As I had already submitted a photo under bright light and a photo booth background, I thought I'd have some fun with my last submission. The photo above uses a simple soft focus around the Dreadnought to make sure it is him who is the centre of attention.
### Relictors Dreadnought "Strength of Will" striding through the battlefield on Craxus III, a hive world in the outer rim of the Eye of Terror, a region of realspace the Relictors have been charged with defending from the forces of chaos, heretics, xenos and traitors... the Contemptor advances, punching a hole in the arch-enemy forces with well aimed bursts from his Assault Cannon and Storm Bolter Powerfist, alongside the Grav Cannon armed Devastators and Tactical Squad, all of them 4th Company. ###

Here is a similar shot, but without the blur, the Dreadnought can be somewhat lost in the battlefield, but pictured here is the Relictors advance alongside his Brothers in the 4th Company and who he will be fielded with on the future battlefields.

Hope you like. Thanks to all participants, Joe B and thank-you readers for dropping in on my humble part of the blogosphere. Here's to a successful Dreadtober 2017! Cheers, Siph.

Chaos 'Pink' Horrors Commission by Rob at 30Kplus40k

Rob at 30Kplus40K messaged me a long while ago reference experimenting with possible commission work and when I replied, I said I'd be interested in getting some Daemons done and as it was Rob's first commission, I'd seen his own work, so gave him free reign in how they were painted. I specified that i'd do the bases to match my own and that the Pink Horrors should reflect the madness of Tzeentch.
What could be more mad than green 'pink' horrors! Love it. The tongues are all vibrant different colours and the feathers also. I particularly liked the flame effect morphing from the flesh.
This was the second squad of this initial commission work, done very speedily and value for money to a great standard. The Daemonettes he did for me can be found HERE.
And the Daemons I have so far look like this, a riot of colour, far removed from the grey monotone Relictors army who will be summoning them from the Warp. (for those who don't know - Relictors fluff says they use Chaos to fight Chaos, much to the ire of the Inquisition!
Thanks for dropping by to have a look-see. Cheers, Siph (currently painting some more grey marines...)

Mechanicum Castellax Battle-Automata w/ Mauler Bolt Cannon #2

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in again. Here is my latest addition to the Mechanicum force, another Castellax Battle-Automata, this one armed with the Marine killing Mauler Bolt Cannon (lke an AP3 Heavy Bolter) and Bolters in the fists, plus the fact that he is a 4W Monstrous Creature with Shock Chargers (S6 AP2 and Monstrous Creature - Smash at S10).
This was a part-painted purchase I made at cost price as the old owner wanted to move on to another army and have made the scheme more Ad Mech than the original green US Army style the previous owner had started, but I liked some of the green bits, so once again I chose to keep the torso and fists green.
I painted the red plates, the details and lenses and weathered the metallics, weapons and did the bases to my usual standard. The paint job before was rather limited and no details but was fairly neat so I didn't need to strip and start again as such, so the undercarriage was pretty much done for me.
I used the Ad Mech transfers on these to tie all the Ad Mech, Skitarii and Mechanicum forces together, I have 5 Castellax, one more to finish and another Thanatar Siege Automaton.
Here are the completed Castellax so far. Can't wait to use them soon. At the moment I've only used them as proxy Kastelan Robots in the Ad Mech force.

Thanks for reading. Some Genestealer Cult traitors are on the workbench, amongst other things...

Genestealer Cult - Leman Russ Battle Tank

$

Hello Readers, long time readers of the WeeMen blog may recognise this as one of the long overdue Vraks PDF Leman Russ tanks from the Emperors Fist Battle Company started a long time ago in 2009 - seen here WIP. As I never had the time or patience for an entire Imperial Guard army, I sold 6 tanks and kept the others for a small allied force - perhaps.

With the release of the Genestealer Cult I saw a great opportunity to use older Space Hulk Hybrids, Purestrains and the few completed IG models I have.
So on to the first of my Cult completed models, a re-purposed Leman Russ Main Battle Tank, I finished off the painting, added weathering to tracks and rivets using the Typhus Corrosion liquid - these are no longer being maintained as they once were.
I added Cult Icons and 'burnt' off or defaced the remaining Imperial icons, adding some paint drips as necessary to complete the illusion. The front Aquila was removed using snips and a Genestealer Cult Icon put in it's place.
Here youcan see the defaced Squadron Numbers, overlaid with a tack-welded Cult Icon. I left the recognition numbers and lesser icons on the sponsons as the Cult has little time for these trivial matters.
Finally, the driver was made from a FW Vehicle Crew torso and a head from the Genestealer Cult upgrade sprue, I painted the skin Kislev Flesh with a Purple wash to give a slightly pale alien vibe. I will repaint the IG Squad hands and faces to match too. He also got a freehand Cult Icon on his armour shoulder pad - I will replicate these on the squad when they get new heads and allegiances...

Hope you like my transformation of an Imperial Vehicle to the subverted Cult of the Four Armed Emperor...

Captain Mordaci Blaylock "The Stormbreaker" Space Marine Terminator

Hello fair Reader, continuing from my long ago post (January!... doh!) about using Betrayal at Calth miniatures in 40K, I eventually got around to getting the Captain off the To-Do pile and in the painting queue. I hope you like the results!
Lord Halfpenny suggested that the Captain Aethon in BaC could be used for a character found in Forgeworld's IA9 Badab War Pt1, Captain Mordaci Blaylock - ideal as he is armed with Storm Bolter and Chainfist called Foe Ripper.

I removed the Combi-Melta and added a modern '40k' era Storm Bolter and a Iron Halo and done. Captain Mordaci Blaylock - The BaC Captain is an ideal miniature for this Character of renown, has blinged up Termie Armour and a cloak, his special rules also make all Terminator Squads Scoring Units - in 7th we (WeeMen) interpret that as Obj Sec as everyone can score these days.  He has I5 and Captain Stats plus an Iron Halo making him not a bad addition to my Relictor force.
I kept the scheme a simple one, but as a nod to his original Novamarine heritage, I quartered the scheme with bone white and Relictor grey, instead of Nova Marine blue and white. In the fluff, he is the Captain of the Novamarines 1st Company and featured during the Badab War, saving the remnants of the Howling Griffons from extinction at the hand of the secessionist Executioners Chapter.
The cloak was done following most of my Relictor characters, kept plain on outside and red inside, the photo has washed out some of the shading, irl it looks a bit better.
I also added the traditional Relictor black on the shoulder pads, amongst the bling gold and used two smaller skull transfers from the Imperial Knight transfer sheet, and the 'Halo' star pattern above the belt buckle as a further nod to his Novamarine heritage.
I thought it was about time I got some of the Betrayal at Calth box set completed, the birthday and Crimbo fairies may resupply with Burning at Prospero box set soon... the earlier Dreadtober Contemptor can be seen HERE.

Thanks for dropping in.

Necron Destroyer #6 w/ Gauss Cannon

$

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by. Another Necron Destroyer armed with the Marine killing Gauss Cannon, completed and off the To-Do pile. Working my way towards a Destroyer Cult Formation.
The Cult Formation restrictions mean fielding three squads of three Destroyers plus a Destroyer Lord and 0-1 squads of Heavy Destroyers, so three more to go until I can field the Cult. The Destroyer Lord can be found HERE.
Still battling the transfer clear film, not too bad a job here, a little frosting from this angle, but flat and smooth. Used a coat of 'Ardcoat after two applications of Micro Sol and it still slighty frosted... frustrating to say the least! But this army won't win any painting awards, it's quick clean and something different from painting grey Marines.
My pot of Brazen Brass finally became too clumpy, so I invested in a pot of Fulgurite Copper which I must say is lovely and smooth and a great colour for the capacitor coils.
Here is a shot of the Cult so far. So, a quick post and simple miniature addition to the ever-living, ever growing Necron Army.

Castellax Battle-Automata w/ Power Blades #3

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in again. Here is my latest addition to the Mechanicum force, another Castellax Battle-Automata, this one armed with a Multi-Melta and Power Blades
A quite effective 4W Monstrous Creatures with Power Blades for extra CC attack at base S6 AP2 with Rending. Oh and a Multi-Melta, and two Flamers - not forgetting its a Monstrous Creature - Smash Attack at S10).
This was a part-painted purchase I made at cost price as the old owner wanted to move on to another army and have made the scheme more Ad Mech than the original green US Army style the previous owner had started, but I liked some of the green bits, so chose to keep the torso and fists green.
I have a final Thanatar Siege Automaton with Plasma Mortar to finish off these big robots. Here is a group photo of the three with Power Blades and the force so far. For a playable 30K force I am still needing some units but as my blogger buddy Col H says "Fire of Cyraxis, the next Imperial Armour book? 40k Mechanicum... Delicious!"
Thanks for reading and dropping in. Some Necrons up next for me, the hobby butterfly flutters about once more! Cheers, Siph.

WeeMen 500,000 page views. Thanks - Blog Giveaway time!

A huge thank-you to all our readers who pop in and say hi to our corner of the blogosphere. So in WeeMen tradition and other blogger buddies who I encourage to do similar, (and do, well done guys!) I thought a rather nice prize giveaway was in order.
500,000 number
We started the blog as a place to share between us what we were up to, and anyone else could drop in if they wanted. Lord Halfpenny and I don't live in the same town. 6thDegree joined us and lives further away so the blog helps us keep our hobby mojo going and share our interests. The blog is also 8 years old and 700 posts - my first post is one on basing made simple and we hit half a million page views at the end of November! (Although, no idea how many are bots...)

Now for some bigger blogs out there where I frequent, looking at you fantastic Battle Bunnies, Tale of Painters and Faeit212, 500,000 page views is probably a monthly occurrence! But for us, its a nice purely arbitrary milestone.

As you can see, the blog readership is growing over time, thanks in some part to Reddit links which is nice, but more importantly, we have met some wonderful blogger buddies through the blog and especially BlogWars (Cheers Alex at From the Fang), used their talents for painting (Mordian7th, Pirate Viking Painting, Blue Warp Studios and recently 30Kplus40K) and even met up for a battle (Admiral Drax) and arranged meet ups at Gameday but missed due to queues (soz Drake Seta, Col H).

And a shout out to a few blogger buddies, who keep coming back and commenting, or inspiring . Nice chaps all, please check out their blogs for more hobby goodness. And apologies if you don't see your name, I haven't listed everyone, in no particular order:

Dave Taylor at Dave Taylor Miniatures
Dave Weston at Confessions of a 40K Addict - thanks for the picture of 500,000 too!
Zzzzzz at DevosIV
Corrm at St Andrews Wargaming
Joe B at Broken Paintbrush
Andrew and Col F at Iron Legions
Rictus at Recalcitrant Daze
Shadow and Drake (again) at Titan Owners Club
Nick Thrower at The Burning Eye
Rory Priest at Stepping Between Games
NafNaf at Objective Secured
Ron at FromTheWarp - we miss you mate!

See loads of positive hobby great stuff out there!

Now about that giveaway - what to do to get your hands on a chance to win the prize. Well, it could be subscribe, or write some fluff, but I'd rather use this to do some good at this time of year (of course these will be good too, please follow the Blog or put us in your sidebar!). I will post up who the lucky single winner is around Christmas, so please donate for a chance to win this giveaway prize! Thank-you. And it is a sad state of affairs when you have to put quasi-legal speak on a charity giveaway, but that's the way of the world...

Check out the link below or Charity Button in the sidebar >>>>> to the Just Giving page to 'sponsor' me giving funds to Cancer Research UK.

Necron Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines

Hello Good Readers, thanks for dropping in. Today I am showing the latest addition to the Necron Force I have. Seen here Feb 2015. A squad of 5 Immortals armed with Tesla Carbines.
These guys have been knocking about on the To-Do pile, albeit somewhat down the pile now for two years. I posted an article on how to get your monies worth out of a box of Immortals converting them with Warrior Torso and the spare Gauss weaponry to get ten from the box of five - Here.
I added more of the accent Blue than on the Warriors as these are higher up the pecking order, so the Blue and Gold reflect that. But still less than the HQ choices, so I limited the Gold to just a head stripe. The copper capacitor coils was done using the Citadel Fulgurite Copper, a lovely metallic paint with great coverage compared to the older Brazen Brass I was using. It was washed with Agrax Earthshade to darken it a little.
And finally, the whole squad. I plan on a lot more Gauss Blasters with the remaining 15 Immortals I have as you can never have too many Gauss weapons! This squad will probably drop in in a Night Scythe to hit smaller objective holding units in the backfield - using the extra Tesla shots to good effect - looking at you SM Scouts...

Terrain and Scenery - Vengeance Weapon Battery

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in. Although I have an extensive terrain collection now, all built and painted, I still like to add some scenic pieces and try out some of the Fortifications on offer. I haven't yet used the Plasma Obliterator game wise, but it has graced a few battlefields as a thematic piece of scenery nevertheless.
Some items that I might just use are these great little turrets, armed with either Battlecannons or Punisher Cannons, they could very much fulfill a battle role at being some well needed Anti-Tank / Heavy firepower or horde killing weight of shots. Who doesn't like Heavy 20, twice?!
The kit does come with two barrels, but luckily the Punisher cannon barrel end fits into the Battlecannon, so I could construct and glue together, it looks fine (IMHO) as either. And this way can be swapped out whenever points are tight or the role I envisage changes beforehand for battles.
I used some transfers from a SuperHeavy Tank transfer sheet to get some numbers which were suitably large enough and the Catachan Green scheme with the dull metal compliment each other and is a lot less 'bling' than the GW designs, but brings its own gravitas I reckon - proper heavy metal! I also opted to leave off three ornate skull plates to give some blank surfaces to put the transfers on.
Where I keep the spare barrel ends - magnets are wonderful!
And here finally is the Vengeance Battery alongside the heavier Plasma Obliterator. They look pretty cool, and should provide an ideal narrative to a future game. Thanks for dropping in. Siph.

Necron Deathmarks - Hunters from Hyperspace!

$

Hello Readers, hopefully you are nearly prepared for the festive season if you choose to celebrate. Thanks for dropping in, here is the latest additions to my Necron force, some sneaky sinister sniper robots - the Necron Deathmarks.
These beauties are armed with the Synaptic Disintegrator, a rapid fire sniper weapon, so with the special Deathmark rules you'll definitely be able to position these within half range of the 24in gun and get two shots each.
But what makes these actually quite fun to field is the Hunters From Hyperspace rules, these basically get to shoot the enemy on the turn the enemy arrives from deep strike, so the Skyhammer Devastators with Grav Cannons arrive, step out of the pod and then these materialise next to them, firing twice and hopefully taking out those Grav Cannons in the Movement phase before they fire!
What makes them better, is the fact that on the turn they arrive from Deep Strike, Ethereal Interception means they wound on a 2+ rather than the normal sniper 4+ regardless of toughness. Yes, you may get normal armour (AP5) saves but wounding Tau, Monsterous Creatures, Artillery or Wraithknights or rending at AP2 might hurt those machines badly.
And they are an Auxiliary Formation to add to the Decurion Detachment so buff their Reanimation Protocols to a 4+. Certainly not game breaking, but an annoying useful Deep Striking harassment unit, especially when fielding a squad of ten - but then the Deep Strike scatter may affect the usefulness. And again, snipers with only BS4... the same as the Necron Warrior.
I can't wait to field these, firstly as a squad of 5, but I have bought another 5 to bolster their numbers. I painted them a lot darker than the rest of the Necrons, still used some Blue to link them in, but the main colour of these snipers armour is Black, edged with Eshin Grey, like any decent sniper should be ;)
Here they are harassing a Skyhammer Devastator Combat Squad.
